Should I keep the game going?

Post by maxvale76 » Wed May 05, 2010 2:27 am

I've got the next update ready to go tomorrow; but only Obi has responded to last week's update...and over the past few; only a few players are regularly contributing.

I don't know if it's because most folks' have just run into RL time-consumming issues or if I'm just not running a very good game; but I'd like to know if people want me to continue the game and if people have any suggestions for what they'd like to see more of; by all means, please let me know.

Thanks,

Max

Things go up and down all the time Max. The summer has always been tough on USCM.

If you want an influx of new players advertise on http://www.pbem2.com for example.

This game started in late 2005 early 2006 as I needed something to flee reality with while my mother was dying in cancer. The old Pentium II that ran the server on Win2000 stood in my closet in my old apartment and were notoriously unreliable. I used PHPBB 2.0 back then (the camouflage pattern on this page is the same as back then). I then transferred the whole forum and site to a commercial provider and the game started to gain momentum.

I have run this game on and off for all that time. I still feel for this game but most of all its players whom I consider friends and I will continue to run the site.

What I have learned over the years boils down to two things.

1) K.I.S.S - Keep it simple stupid. The more complicated rules and joining forms the less players and the more moaning. Accessability even for illiterate people is the key here (Apachetear, Pants etc...) ;) .

2) Endurance and punctuality. One new turn each week, preferrably on the same day. Every week. That gains trust and people know they won't be left hanging.

My work situation has brightened significantly and I will have a lot more free time up ahead. I am here to help if You need anything Max.

Shame to let a legacy that origins in 1994s USCMPBEM die out here. We have had pretty fun over the years. And we will have fun in the years to come as well...

Thanks for the support Nick! I'll definitely keep this game running thru the end of the mission!

I've been having some computer issues...I'm on my wife's office computer for a few minutes here; but I should have my home PC back this evening and I'll have the next post up then.

Thanks for the history lesson too....it's humbling to know that I've become a small part of something that's 15+ years old! :)
