The new platoon roles explained
The new platoon roles explained
THE PLATOON LEADER - The platoon leader is the first fighting man of the platoon. He is responsible for the training, discipline, control, and tactical employment of the platoon.
THE PLATOON SERGEANT - The platoon sergeant is second-in-command. He assists the platoon leader in controlling the direction and rate of movement of the advance. During all operations he takes post as directed by the platoon leader so as best to assist in the control of the platoon. He replaces the platoon leader when the latter is not with the platoon or becomes a casualty.
THE PLATOON GUIDE - The platoon guide (a sergeant) prevents straggling and enforces orders concerning cover, concealment, and discipline. His position is usually in rear of the platoon, where he observes the situation on the flanks and the rear. He checks ammunition expenditure and replenishes ammunition at every opportunity.
THE SQUAD LEADER - The squad leader is responsible for the discipline, appearance, training, control, and conduct of his squad. He leads it in combat. The squad leader must train his squad to use and care for its weapons, to move and fight efficiently as individuals, and function effectively as a part of the military team.
THE FIRE TEAM LEADER - The Fire team leader is responsible for the second fireteam (each squad is divided into two) were the first is lead by the Squad leader.
THE ADVISORY ROLE - There can be several Advisors attached to a Marine rifle platoon. The Aliens universe is a diverse and complex place with extremely high tech machinery and complicated jurisdictions - A wrong decision at the wrong place could start a smaller intersystem war. All platoons have a synthetic person attached to them as a permanent advisor and "jack-of-all-trades". The synthetic person is qualified to both pilot the dropship, the APC, the mothership and have advanced repair & mechanical knowledge of all USCM equipment. The Advisor also serves as the science officer and more or less as a database with information about things as diverse as corporate law to specific planetary atmospheric conditions.

Re: The new platoon roles explained
Great post Nick, will you be splitting up the Squads into their mini teams or will that be up to the Squad Leaders?

Re: The new platoon roles explained
Obi: I as GM will not split up anything - All platoon related decisions are (normally) up to Dugans character the Platoon Sergeant. Although I might deviate from this for story reasons...
Dugan: Yeah the messengers are like the RTO - And in case the RT fails they run with the messages.
I will update original post with Advisor role.

Re: The new platoon roles explained
Newbie here....but I thought I'd ask a couple of questions....
1. I'm assuming the role of the 'Support' Squad to which my character (PVT Sam Hall) is assigned is to be a sort of 'ready-reserve' force...ready to go help out whichever squad needs help at the moment?...
2. Seeing as how at the moment the only names in the Support Squad are SGT Hoffman and Hall.....are the other 3 membes of the squad actually there (as 'red-shirts' NPCs) or are they empty slots or slots not yet filled by new PCs?
Thanks!

One of the slots is about to filled by Chris Shepards character. But I guess the others will be empty unless we get a few knew joiners before we are deployed.
