Turn 3 - Enter light

Post by Nick » Wed Apr 13, 2011 8:12 am

Undisclosed location, Space Trade lane, Near communications relay
Mission timer: 00.00.00

The light was piercing, merciless, cold and blue. The drone from the platoons hypersleep chambers buzzed like a mechanical beehive for a few seconds. The marines came by, one after another, drowsily becoming more and more aware of their surroundings. They felt the hungover from being in hypersleep, their bodies metabolistic system being slowed to a near halt. Despite being slowly restarted over the last 3 hours they still felt the effects in their bodies. The joints were stiff, their skin was clammy, their minds dull and their mouths dry. To add to the general miserable feeling, the floor was absolutely freezing. Next to the hypersleep chambers were the locker rooms of USS Costaguana, rows of anonymous metal locker doors. One door was half open, a towel slung haphazardly over it. After the rather sharp and annoying hypersleep lid sound the ambient soundscape was saturated with a much softer humming - It was the USS Costaguanas powerful pulser reactor core that vibrated deep inside the belly of the battleship.

Lt Ericson rose and tip toed quite uncharacteristically over to the nearest locker door and quickly tapped in the keypad code. With a click the locker opened up and she swiftly grabbed a pair of olive drab colored fatigues, she quickly fixed her hair in a knot and put a cap in matching olive on her head. She then went to take her boots on to finally grab her uniform jacket.

Joe blinked as his vision swam and everything was a flood of blurred white.

Whose idea was it to make this room white with bright lights?

The thought hit him as he rubbed at his eyes and sat up, with the feeling in his limbs returning, and his head hurting. Joe coughed as he tried to rid himself of his dry mouth. As he hopped out of the hypersleep chamber his feet hit the ice cold floor and with a stuttering inhale he yelped out, "Damnit!" And continued what could only be classified as a "silly walk" to get to his locker and his uniform.

Keep em closed. Marcus told himself as he became aware. Even through lids of his eyes he could feel the bright light, shining through the skin. He heard movement to the side and figured he wasn't the only one up. He counted to ten, rolled to the side and opened his eyes.

It still hurt like hell, but it was smarter than looking straight up into the blaring lights. He swung his legs over and felt the cold slap of the floor on the soles of his feet.

"Argh, like a damn frozen toilet seat." He grumbled. He rolled his shoulders and started going into stretches as he moved away from his tube. Counting numbers in his head. 45 x 23 is 1035. 72 x 19 is ....720 +.....648............ 1368.

He ticked off the numbers in his head, trying to think again. Get moving. He slapped his face once to help get his head going.

He counted steps and found the locker he'd been assigned before hypersleep. He jabbed in the punch keys and pulled on the handle. No dice. He repeated the process and again, no release. He stopped. Looked at the locker, and saw he was trying to open the locker directly NEXT to his.

He quickly stepped to the side and punched in the code. There was a tiny click and the door ease, and he grumbled as he opened the locker.

Duncan awoke, a metallic aftertaste in his mouth. He leapt out of the chamber and unto the cold floor. "Bracing, isn't it?" he said to his squadmates. He shuffled over to the locker area and began fiddling with the lock. He popped open the door and began putting on his uniform.

Samantha blinked rapidly several times as the bright light hit her eyes and was suprised by the force of the big yawn that hit her unexpectedly. Seeing a squadmate glance over at the loud noise; she smiled sheepishly and grinned in apology.

Shrugging her shoulders; she got out of the cryo chamber and quickly went and got a hot shower; that woke her up!

Getting dressed quickly; she came out to see what the next part of the mission would entail.

Click, snap, moan. The winding tone of the the cryo tube opening was always the same. When the device started to open so did Morse begin to come into consciousness. His eyes opened, rather slow. He did not feel well, though it was probably not quite the same as the rest of them. His stomach was never really one of the strongest. Him developing a taste and tolerance for his drink of choice hadn't reflected much on his bodily tolerance. And he immediately began to recall that had he'd had a bit of it to drink before he went under. Sure it wasn't alcoholic, but it was terrible to settle into the stomach. He woke up how he often did, getting up quickly, ready for nothing. However he felt dizzy. He got his feet on the ground, but stumbled to do so. "Uh, shit" He mumbled to himself trying to get his focus.

Fortunately he knew where he was. He got up to his feet and stood up straight, he still felt dizzy. He knew what was happening, and didn't bother waiting. He began to walk forward, the floor stinging his feet a bit, but he hardly noticed. He walked right out of the cryo room, at a fast walk and into the locker room. He got right and found a waste bin. He quickly bent over it and opened his mouth. The contents of his stomach poured in. It was clear and watery, and flowed smooth. He didn't make any real noise as it happened. He put his hand on the wall in front of him, and looked up. He still felt dizzy, but was feeling a bit better. "Fuck." He said aloud to himself, as he kept himself by the wall as he slowly regained focus and began to feel better.

The locker assigned to Eichler was just the same as any of the others but lacking decoration. He figured he'd put his paint skills to use later and put something nice up on there. As long as the female in the platoon didn't object to it.

A moment later his frigid mind had slowly come to action and he finally punched in the correct code to his lock. He figured he'd be showering after he'd gotten something to eat and boots and utes would suffice for now. He grabbed a skivvy shirt and his cammie bottoms and boots out of the locker. The thick boot socks felt great on his cold feet and he proceeded to finish dressing.

As he finished a brown flash dropped to hang in the middle of his locker. It was a leather scabbard that was hand embossed with "JME" vertically across its front with some patterns put in. Wooden washers were stacked out the top of it that ended in a worn metal pommel. The top of the aged leather had a loop that hung on his loose deuce gear that hung in his locker. He quickly stuffed it back into its place and finished putting on his web belt.

Chow time...

One minute Rascal was dreaming of a sandy beach, a nice brew, and the sound of waves, the next he was in good ol monotonous reality. Piercing white light stabbed towards his eyes as he sat up, his mind subconsciously making note of the temperature difference in the room. I hate these damn coolers.

Minutes later, he was parked in front of his locker, absent mindedly staring at its contents. His mind was still "thawing out", and it would probably be a bit before it was deemed "active". Ugh, what i wouldnt give for real sleep.

A light slowly dawned before his eyes, becoming painfully bright. Sitting slowly upright and keeping his eyes closed, Sixtus took several deep breaths to get the oxygen flowing throughout his system. The headache slowly dissipated and the light became less piercing.

When Morris swore from the capsule next to his own, Sixtus nodded slowly. He hated these things, but knew they were necessary for space travel. "Seconded."

He slowly got to his feet, his hand against the capsule. The sergeant would be yelling at him at any moment to get moving. He shuffled over to his locker, which was next to the Lieutenant's.

"Morning ma'am." he mumbled, pulling his fatigue jacket from his locker. It was cold.

Rednus awoke to the usual noises of marines milling around. As he cleared his throat an ungodly amount of phlegm stewed in his mouth like a warm, thick soup. He resisted the urge to spit it out on the floor, as he had on previous awakenings, and made his way to a WC to expel the foul concoction.
Rednus witnessed another marine slap himself and felt like doing the same, when he realised he had already placed a smoke in his mouth.

The bright light greeted Obi as he slowly opened an eyes. Sitting up slowly and rubbing his neck he paused as he body shook off the effects of the hypersleep. Swining his legs over the edge, he moved quickly towards the messdeck, the cold deck stinging his feet. Stopping by his locker Obi grabbed his towel, wash gear and new jocks and headed towards the showers, nodding hello and the rest of the drowsy hypersleep effected marines.

Stripping off his jocks, Obi hit the timed shower button and was hit with an instant spray of hot water. jumping up and down and working his arm's around in circle to get the blood flowing, Obi felt reinvigorated as he loosened up. They so need to work out a new an improved way of interstellar travel. Obi thought as he dried himself off. A quick shave and teeth brushing, Obi hurried back to the messdeck and removed a uniform from his locker. Dressing Obi noticed that his BDU and t-shirt feeling as cold as the rest of the ship. I think we need to get the ship's computer to bring life support temp's up a bit quicker before we come out. Sitting down he pulled on his boots, making sure that the leg of his BDU were correctly bloused over the top. Sitting up and yawning, he gave himself a quick shake and followed the rest of the platoon out and headed toward's the ship's cafe.

Lt Ericson closed her door locker with bang and moved out towards the mess hall area which resided next to the hypersleep chambers - As everyone else she was now absolutely starving.

In the mess hall the android Monk had started up the autochef a few hours earlier - The machine stood there humming and occassionally chomping on something that guaranteed was more nutrituous than appealing. On todays menu were corn bread, porridge, orange juice (with 0,1% fruit!) and egg. Naturally there were synthetic coffe and tea available as well. The bacon paste module seemed to be out of order, which was quite strange since no one in their right mind would eat that horrible pig goo that dribbled out.

Lt Ericson snatched a tray and placed it in the autochef. The machine vibrated happily for a few second sploshing down stuff that looked more or less nasty. She then moved over to one of the tables and sat down. Monk, who had awaited were the Lt placed her, also came over and took a seat. Lt Ericson gave him a glance and thought "Great, now he'll scare everone else away from this table..."

Marcus had dressed himself like the rest. Boots, fatigues, and a look of hunger. He made his way into the mess, not taking stock of who was where, only that there were bodies in places and some where moving.

He took a tray and shoved it into the auto-chef. He pressed the buttons for the full spread, minus the 'bacon' which he noticed was broken. He pressed the start button, smacking the side once at a while it rubbled like it was please with its job.

When his rations popped out there was an extra portion of cornbread on top of the rest.

"Every time~" he smiled getting a cup of tea and sitting down from across from two people.

He took a deep drink from the hot tea, enjoying the heat of it as it tore down his throat.

When he set down the cup he realized it was the LT and Monk sitting across the table.

"Ah..... Morning Lieutenant. Monk." He nodded and took a bite of his extra corn bread.

It was always the same, every time he went into hyper-sleep. First the darkness washed over him, removing all thought and emotion. He always liked that part. Then the dreams came. Just images at first, flashes of people and places that were close to him. Then the images came together. Hawaii, the beach the waves. A beautiful woman calling him to the water. Her short black hair framing her face while her crystal blue eyes were fixed on his every move. He liked this part.

Then the things came. Wave after wave of the Xenos crashed against the Marines line as his NCOIC, Con yelled for the men to push the things back. Evac was always coming in the dream but it never got there. Dirk knew that he would die where he stood.

A bright light split the darkness and banished the nightmares back to the places they waited for sleep. Dirk's eyes fluttered for a moment and then opened. All at once he remembered where he was and what he was doing. Taking a deep breath he sat up and looked around at the other pods. Like him, the other Marines were waking up. Taking the picture he had placed on the inner part of the pod he hopped out of the pod onto the cold deck.

Lighting a cigarette Dirk walked into the showers and turned on the water. He almost smiled as he managed to wash and keep his cigarette lit the whole time. As he had told his first squad leader, it was a talent. Getting dressed, he put out his cigarette and walked into the chow-hall.

Taking a tray he grabbed what passed for food in the Corps. Then filling his coffee mug he walked over to the Lt's table. It was strange for him, but he was a senior NCO now. So his place was with the CO.

"Ma'am. Monk" He said as he sat and took a sip on coffee

Kurosaki was changed in less than a minute. He hated being cold, and the only way not to be cold was to take a quick shower and get some clothes on with the minute. His hair was slightly drippy, but aside from that, he was quite happy.
The mess hall was standard, and he picked up the food that looked unappealing and sat down next to Pitt. He began to eat in silence, the sergeant's jaws preoccupied with the tough and tasteless cornbread.
