The Marines continued down the hall, towards the FTL room. The corridors seemed even more twisted and hellish here. It felt like you were at the very mouth of hell and perhaps they were.

It was hard to find solid footing and the resin was slippery from all the water dripping from the encrusted roof. It was incredibly hot, the suits system struggling to keep the atmosphere inside them bearable. The rumble from the engines was now immense and everything seemed to shake, it was more of a roar than a rumble as they came closer.

Suddenly they reached the engine room, the door was stuck half open, hence the loud sound level. The resin had encrusted the door, but you could see parts of the steel through it. The resin snaking across the surface, glimmering in the light from the shoulder lights. Without discussion the first squad performed a stack and search operation, divided into two pairs. They moved in , cramming themselves through the narrow gap, and each covered a sector of the engine room.

In front of them a large room spread out, the fartherst reaches of it shrouded in darkness. A fine mist lay on the floor and floated softly over and through a field of oval shaped objects. The objects were leathery and aproximately just under two feet high.

The Marines senses screamed that something was wrong. That this was a very, very bad place to be. But they could not put their finger on why.

Suddenly movement catched their eyes. One of the objects was moving slightly. Then suddenly its top end opened up, like a flower. Thick meaty flaps folded gently down to its sides. Moments later two other objects opened up and there was commotion in the neat lines of objects further back as well.

Dar remained in position, scanning behind and around as Bojan checked the tracker. Though he couldn't see through the door ahead as the second squad was still preparing to enter, the mist was flowing into the hallway from the engine room... so Dar could tell something odd was up... and then the tracker in Bojan's hand began to make that telltale sound... motion... close...

With the first squad deployed into the engine room, Dar couldn't use the flame unit with impunity. He brought it up to firing position, but kept the weapon pointed down... towards...

"What the..."

Dar saw the first of the leathery pods open through the crack in the door, as he approached the door. He held fire... but took aim at the pod...

"I say we burn it" Con whispered to the rest of the team "Seriously get an incinerator to it before we have bigger problems to worry about." When no one moved Con raised his voice allitle "just get rid of them. Kill them and then we can study them. I'll do it if no one else wants to"

More and more of the leathery objects opened up, seemingly in random order - But it was only those close to the Marines that reacted. Those further back were till.

Suddenly Bojan shouted "Multiple contacts...cant't lock in...wait...they're behind us!" A massive wave of white blips was forming behind the two squads.

One hundred meters, seventy five, sixty, fifty five meters...the clock was ticking. And it was ticking fast.

Damn, James thought, It was going south fast and they were stuck in the middle of this mess with no where to run but straight ahead. James looked around at the rest of the squad, Green and Honeysett were just before him in the line, Con was next to him and the Sarge brought up the rear. "Green, let the Smart Gun do a little talking for us. Honeysett, see if those things like fire. Con, you've got our left side and the Sarge has our flanks. Okay Cue Balls, lets scramble some eggs." James squeezed the trigger on his Pulse Rifle which, began to spit round after round of hot death raining into the leathery eggs. "I don't know what these flowers are blooming, but I'll be damned if any other strange crap is going to blossom up in front of me without my having given it permission! Semper Fi boys, Hurrah!!!!!" (OOC:Semper Fidelis is the US Marine Corp Motto. It means Always Faithful. During Boot Camp and other times you can often hear a Marine saying Semper Fi, Live or Die and then a loud Hurrah, which is usually echoed by any Marines nearby.)

The eggs were torn to shreds by the high explosive 10mm rounds. The M41 bucked in Eagles hands as it send a stream of bullets into the eggs. More and more of the eggs started to open.

Suddenly a distant high pitched shriek was heard, yet it was loud enough to be heard both over the tremendous engine noise and the gunfire.

"I think we should be getting out of here now. There's no reason to stay. Lets just burn them quick, leave, find any survivors then get out of here.", suggested Bojan to Steel.

Nick was at the rear of first squad and covered their backs as they entered the engine room. Following them in he could just make out row after row oval shaped objects, which started to open...
Suddenly Bojan shouted "Multiple contacts...can't lock in...wait...they're behind us!" A massive wave of white blips was forming behind the two squads.
With the command squad frequency open, Nick started talking into his comm.

"Morrison watch your rear! LT we're facing a bunch of...well they look like eggs, up here, and they're opening."

With the sudden burst of gunfire in front of him, Nick realised that first squad had opened fire on those objects closest to them, spraying high velocity death amongst the leathery eggs.

Quickly switching to first squads frequency Nick just caught L Cpl Eagles, "Semper Fi boys, Hurrah!!!!!" as first squad kept up their fire.

"Eagle, we've got to clear this room and push on. Kill everything that ain't a marine, and flame us a path out of here. Semper Fi, marines! Light 'em up!"
Suddenly a distant high pitched shriek was heard, yet it was loud enough to be heard both over the tremendous engine noise and the gunfire.
"What the heck was that?" Nick said to himself, forgetting that he still had his comm open.
"I think we should be getting out of here now. There's no reason to stay. Lets just burn them quick, leave, find any survivors then get out of here."
Hearing Pfc Bojan over his comm, Nick replied instantly.

"Good idea Bojan, but we're surrounded. The only way out of this mess is to fight our way out, which is what the 'Easy Eights' are all about! Now keep an eye on your motion tracker and make sure you shoot straight. Semper fi marine!"

Shepherd cursed silently as he knelt and began watching their "six" Taking a pair of flares form his harness he lit their ends and tossed them to their rear in an effort to light their possible exit and illuminate any bugs coming that way.

At the sound of that grating scream he turned back over his shoulder at Steel. "Ok..we pissed off what ever is down here. Can we go home now?"

Con kept cover of James' left wilst the eggs were being destroyed. "Hurry up" he said over his shoulder "get rid of the things before something comes out".
Suddenly a distant high pitched shriek was heard, yet it was loud enough to be heard both over the tremendous engine noise and the gunfire.
"Shit... what the hell is it now?" Con yelled over the gun fire.

The pressure was growing, Con felt him self going faint for a second and he struggled to regained control of his breathing. "breath slowly" he thought to himself "in and out and in and out and...". Slowly but surely Con's vison slid back into focus, the breathing was working.

The sound of the motiontracker made the hairs on Morrison's neck stand straight up. These... things were coming straight at them. Fast.

"Second Squad! Get on the readyline! Pyro- keep an eye on first squad! Contact at six 'o clock! I want short, controlled bursts! Keep 'em tight, and watch eachother's backs! Kill Bodies!"

Morrison crammed his way back towards the line, having his pulserifle's stock pressed firmly against his shoulder.

"Bojan! Talk to me goddamit!" Morrison shouted "I want numbers and figures! Vaughan! You have the flamer! Give them the gates of fire!"

As Morrison stacked up behind his two tailmen, he tossed a lit flare as far down the hall as he could, bathing the resin-coated tunnel in a red, hellish glow.

"C'mon you little fuckers! We'll chew you up and spit you out!" he thought as he aimed down the resin-covered corridor, thumbing the safety down on his M4A1.

(OOC: "Numbers&Figures": Number of enemies and the distance to them. "Gates of fire": using a flamer in CQB/MOUT to deny enemy acess to certain areas. Not always very safe.)

James eased forward at a steady pace, he pulled his magazine out of the gun and flipped it upside down and stuck the next magazine into the belly of his gun. The leathery oviods seemed to be falling like dominos. "Green what is your status on the Smart Gun? I repeat what is your status on the Smart Gun?" Continued forward, with a movement that wasted no motion, James slipped over to the command frequency. "OK, LT, Sarge, and Corporal Morrison. 1st Squad has cleared this sector to the best of my knowledge. . . .
Suddenly a distant high pitched shriek was heard, yet it was loud enough to be heard both over the tremendous engine noise and the gunfire.
. . . . holy cow what in the four shades of sheol was that?" James quickly slipped back over into his Squad's frequency. "Okay First Squad, let's tighten the ranks here. I want us close enough to smell the other's sweaty butts but, far enough apart to keep us from being obliterated with one shot."

Suddenly Bojan shouted "Multiple contacts...cant't lock in...wait...they're behind us!" A massive wave of white blips was forming behind the two squads.
Dar pivoted immediately, and stepped back past Bojan, taking the lead towards what would probably now become their exit.
"Bojan! Talk to me goddamit!" Morrison shouted "I want numbers and figures! Vaughan! You have the flamer! Give them the gates of fire!"
Dar didn't hesitate... with the flamer armed, he fired a single burst down the hallway behind them... both as a warning, and to illuminate the scene. The sudden flare of flame showed him movement visually... and he cut loose in a arc across the hallway... his battle reflexes were on now, and whatever the frak these thing were, they were about to die...

Closing ranks, so he was in formation, Jacob dropped to one knee and - watching all the others shooting the leathery pods lobbed a grenade underarm into the center of the mass...then he aimed down the sights of his gun - waiting for any contact in front, he hoped to hell that the rearend would hold up

comming in to the LT he formed the question "ma'am, considering the amount of contacts behind us - wouldn't the smartgun be better back there?"

resuming his aim he simply waited, he didn't know if he was going to live - and, while normally afraid he was going to die, at the back of his mind a small voice always said "don't worry, you'll be fine" this time...there was no such voice

Morrison fired short bursts from his pulserifle at any hint of movement, and at points that he found suspicious. He had a feverish sense of urgency, like always in a firefight.

"Second Squad! We're gonna move back a bit. Keep an eye on that floor! Don't let them get up from under you." he shouted on the comnet, hoping that the flamer and the guns would be enough to keep those hideous monsters away.

Morrison tugged at both Vaughan's and Bojan's combatwebbings before he started to walk backwards down the corridor. He tapped into the commandnet: "I copy that, Eagle. We have contacts at our six. Things are a tad hot back here, so we are regrouping. Zero losses, estimate 90% ammo left."

(OOC:Soldiers and squadleaders are required, from time to time, to report their status, squaddies always have to report if they've taken losses or not, and give an estimate of the amount of ammunition left. This isn't only given to superior officers, but to other squaddies as well, so the squads can work better together. And the tugging simply means, "Hey, we're moving out, follow me.")
