LOCATION: WASP-33, Phorcys Planet
OPERATION: Pharcy's Campaign
A shudder went through the vessel as the massive displacement drives heaved to, decreasing the headway. The sounds of massive chains clinking and water dripping echoed through the depths of the ship's holds. Lights flickered to life and the computer screens came to life. The special cryotubes for the two synthetics began the process of waking them up. Unlike their human counterparts, there is no warming process to their artificial hemoglobin. A switch is flipped and they are awakened,
Deacon and Pope each began their required tasks of making the USS John Glenn ready to receive the more fragile human frames. Deacon was assigned to make certain that the marines were hail and hearty when they awakened from the tubes. He entered the hypersleep chamber, the overhead light turning on at a setting that would not be extremely harsh to their eyes. He uncovered the supplies that may or may not be required to aid them in awakening. Pope entered the office of Lieutenant Danielle and quickly flipped through the messages from the past three years and gleaned anything that was important to share immediately with the Lieutenant. He laid out her BDUS.
Danielle felt a soft sting as the automated system began to warm the blood by pumping it through a device not too dissimilar to one used for a blood transfusion, in fact that was one of the many tasks it could perform. She had been dreaming of a past lover, only they were not quite the same as she remembered. There was something off about them. She couldn’t quite make out what it was. She heard a soft click, and picked up on the soft vibrations of the lid lifting. After the cold of the cryopod, the sleep chamber felt almost balmy.
She reached over to her left hand and grabbed the waiting warm face cloth and wiped her eyes, moistening them and removing the accumulated by-product of sleeping for so long. When she opened her eyes, she smiled as she looked into the friendly face of Deacon. His hazel eyes reflected her face back at her. “Good Morning LT, don’t try to speak. It has been 37 months, and 3 days since you were last up and about. Pope has prepared your briefing as well as your bdus.” He assisted her to a sitting position and then handed her a glass. “Drink this. It has electrolytes and other vitamins and nutrients necessary to help you recuperate from your time asleep. I hope your dreams were full and kept you well entertained.”
