The Devil Dawgs roared out of the cavernous garage and out onto the gloomy, almost deserted, streets of the United America's mining colony of Ariarcus. Pale, grubby faces glared resentfully at the transport's from windows and street corners as they flashed by in the harsh glare of high-lumen LED street lighting.
The squad level radio channel crackled to life and the image of a severe-looking woman in her mid-thirties, wearing a business suit, appeared on the screens mounted to the dashboard and seatbacks of the APAC cabins.

"Good morning Marines, My name is Mallory Eckford. I am the director of the WY facility here on Ariarcus. We have a problem I hope you can help us solve quickly and quietly. It's fortunate that the Devil Dawgs were available for this task since it was your unit that made Project: Life Force possible. The xenomorph materials recovered by the clean-up teams after your mission to Polaris formed the basis of all our work here. In a nutshell, we were attempting to produce an inoculation which would prevent the implantation of the Xenomorph embryo within the human body. In this endevour we were partially successful."

"We have produced a vaccine which prevents implantation in approximately 60% of cases. With more time and research we expect we can dramatically improve on that. Unfortunately the political situation with the UPP escalated just as we were conducting our first phase of live human trials. Unfortunately, the current version of the vaccine has a serious side effect... Paranoia. In the confusion of organizing a rapid evacuation, four of our volunteer test subjects managed to get loose and escape into the colony proper. We need you to find them and bring them back, alive and intact if at all possible, dead if absolutely necessary."

"If we play the numbers, at least one of them is still infected with a live Xenomorph embyro and none of them are in a completely lucid state of mind. You can expect them all to resist capture. To make matters worse, due to the sensitive nature of the research we could not use ordinary civilian volunteers. These are trained marines who have committed serious crimes which could lead to long prison sentences. They were offered commutation of sentence in return for their cooperation."

Daniela recognized the monitor in front of her coming to live ... a typical WY female Suit showed up and introduced herself as the Director-in-charge. While explaining the situation, Daniela needed all her self-control to keep her composure. That damned WY idiots did it again. How many times must they learn the same lessions: do NOT PLAY with stuff you can't handle. To get matters worse, this time it is about human experiments on marines. If that WY Bitch told the truth ... Suits of her level hardly do ... they were disgraced marines, but STILL marines. But Daniela could not afford to let emotions take over and so, after a brief and successful battle against her inner urge to smash the monitor in front of her, she focussed on the job at hand ...

"Director Eckford, this is Lieutenant Daniela Harper, Commanding Officer of the Devil Dawgs. This is a race against the clock, so please, excuse me, i skip the plesasant introduction part and get straight to the point. Please send the personal data files of the four missing marines asap. Do they still have their personal data transmitters, so we can track them remotly? If not, do you have assigned WY personel to search for them or do you have any clues about their current whereabouts? For how long are they on the run? Did the escape on foot or vehicle?"

Sergeant Major Sykes' expression hardened and his hands clenched but that was the only outward sign of emotion. He could hear the anger in Lieutenant Harper's voice and knew that she felt the same way about this kind of scientific study. He had seen firsthand the atrocities committed in the name of scientific discovery. He had helped the victims on Capua in the Nembus system; the people imprisoned against their will for years until their usefulness was spent. Additionally, the fact that it was former Marines caused the same feeling of revile in him. Danny Sykes was someone who was in control of himself and he kept his mouth shut, his teeth locked together and his jaw forward as he waited for answers to the questions.

Samantha couldn't help herself as she finished hearing what the Corporate Rep was saying; "When are deese idiots gonna learn mon?", she said to no one in particular and making sure her mike wasn't on and shaking her head in disgust at the thought of using anyone, let alone Marines, to be implanted by those alien butchers....

The LT spoke up and Sam kept her mouth shut like any good Marine but anger, resignation and disgust all battled equally in the hard expression on her face....

The face on the screen turned aside for a moment as the director turned her attention to something off-screen and then she was replaced by a grid of four images showing the ID photo's of 2 men and 2 women, all with standard-issue, marine corps buzz-cuts.
The Directors voice continued over the radio, overlaying the images on the screen.

"I'm transmitting the personnel files to you now on a sub-channel, lieutenant. They're names and ranks are Sergeant Worjcik, Lance-Corporal Wright, Lance-Corporal Reese and PFC Carvalho. I'm afraid the first thing they did when they got loose was cut out their subcutaneous PDT implants so we are unable to track their locations that way but we have a possible lead; A local bar, The Eye of Oblivion, recently requested Shore Patrol intervention to resolve some kind of drunken altercation between a group of drunken locals and 4 marines who match the descriptions of our fugitives."

Henniger immediately muted the comm gear that was arrayed between himself and Paulson. He leaned back and slapped Digger on the knees to get his attention. Then he replayed the holo for them, describing the Suit to Paulson as he drove.

He stared hard after the holo froze.

"Well, here we fucking go again. Make sure you're packing AP incendiary rounds in case our boys are in m3 plate like we are."
He saw their expressions harden and raised hid hand.
"I know, I know. I don't want to waste our own either, and as far as them being criminals, we all know when the Company wants something, it gets it and those Marines could easily be any one of us."
He paused.
"I'm all ears on this one. Anyone sees something, or has an idea when we are operating, hit me on the squad channel. This one will not be a simple move, shoot, and communicate. And if you feel threatened and waste the Marine, I've got your backs. If you want to less-lethal him and take them into custody, likewise, I'll support your decision. Just sing out what you're doing so we're on the same page."
He stopped talking as the LT came over the comms. They listened and he unmuted their comm gear. He put a finger to his lips as Digger resumed his vigil in the turret.

Paulson listened to Henniger as he drove, quickly thinking over his gear that he had brought, he had no less than lethal options with him, if they decided to go down this route he would just have to be the pile on guy while other people took a more sophisticated option, Paulson really hoped it wouldn't come to that but to be honest for the escaped marines which would be worse, sent back to wayland for god knows what, or shot down whilst trying to be free, if it came to it Paulson knew which option he would choose.

As the description came about Morse couldn't help but smile. But as the description continued he couldn't help but chuckle. He tried hard to not make a scene about it. Unfortunately it was likely loud enough that it would get the attention of some of the others. There was a reason for this laughter, and it was the hilarity of the situation.

Why else would they have been called? Did the others think that their primary use to the government had just gone away? They were experienced and not yet in need of a complete memory wipe. And they were able to keep their mouths shut and keep pushing through it.

In many ways they had demonstrated greater value in fighting the bugs then they had in other, more conventional, situations. That was not to say that fighting the bugs was not innately extremely dangerous, but Morse suspected their experience had made it something they were more capable of understanding. The conventional warfare now revolved around gas attacks, weapons of mass destruction, and civilians that were hiding the enemy or enemies hiding as civilians. All of that was a nightmare to deal with with anything other than complete overwhelming firepower. The human element had almost no purpose.

But the bugs did require a human touch. Some people could be saved. People there, and people not there. Material and resource cost that were unsalvageable. They needed more understanding, and no one tended to act ungrateful after being saved from the bugs.... not like rebels in the colonies.

"This aint nothin'." Morse said, stretching out his robotic leg. "Easy in and easy out." Morse then looked down to the ground. "Prolly should take a card n' figure out who the hirin' manager is for those civies." Morse's commentary was not entirely out of no where. He was thoroughly battered, and the corporate side was looking better and better the rougher his life got.

Davros listened quietly to the briefing from his passenger seat of the APC. He checked his sub-machine gun more out of habit then to make sure it was in working order. They had a good quartermaster, and his brand of OCD made sure he went over it way more than he probably should. The "suit" blabbed on about the same bullshit that they always did, blah blah for mankind as they hurt the little men and women they were "helping." The 4 marines bio's and pictures displayed on the screen. He made sure his comms wouldn't be heard outside of the APC. "60% success rate?? Ha. Why did they even move onto human trials if they haven't gotten it to 100% yet. I may be able to set up something non-lethal from our med-bags to take down the marines.
<tag fellow marines>
He keyed his comms so that he could ask a question. "Do we have an estimated incubation period on your other specimens?" The last word had a little ire in his voice.
<tag command officers, or the Wy rep>
He began getting some sedatives together, hopefully he would be able to administer them without having to pile on the marines or the drugs. His biggest hope would be that they found marines and not bugs crawling out of the wood work. But if they did find bugs he would gladly give them hot led injections.

Tanya quickly covers her mic and turns toward her squad for a moment, doing a double take on the words that she heard.

"Xenos? Are they serious?" she asks, a state of disgust on her face for only a moment before she adds, "Well Paulson, time for motion tracker again, da?"

Looking back through her scope, she scouts out the terrain once more. After giving Henniger's words some thought, she nods. "Da, understood. We think of something along the way."

Sam nodded at Davros' suggestion about possible non-lethal means of dealing with the one-time Marines. "El tee, any chance of tasers or dart guns or some'ting to bring down deese folks without killing 'dem?", she asked with the expectation of a negative answer, but hoping.

Daniela listened carefullly to the WY director's answers. Too bad, no PDTs. But at least, there was a lead ...

"Understood, Director. The Devil Dawgs will move in to investigate this bar incident immediately."
<Tag Director Eckford>

While some other marines asked questions, Sergeant Hall asked about non-lethal equipment ...
"El tee, any chance of tasers or dart guns or some'ting to bring down deese folks without killing 'dem?"

"Not yet, Sergeant, but i am working on it" ... she replied
<Tag Hall>

Direktor Eckford was busy with her laptop, probably looking up some information, she opened the platoon comms channel ...
"You heard the director, so let's go and grab 'em.

Sergeant Mayor Sykes, contact the local garrison. We are in need of non-lethal weapons.

Henniger, find me an approach route to this bar, now.

All other, check an memorize the personell files"
<Tag Sykes, Henninger, Platoon>

then she waited for Director Eckford to answer the question about the gestation period

"Henniger, find me an approach route to this bar, now. "

Henniger keyed up his com on the dash, bypassing his helmet mic.

"T3, Roger Ma'am."

<tag Juan Perez>

He knew his Marines heard the order so he just began working the problem on the dash holo system. He sent a query to the Suit director and almost sat back to wait when almost instantly the grid coordinates appeared on his screen. He blinked. He should have assumed they were being monitored, but he was used to operating away from the flag pole and simply taking their privacy as Special Operators for granted since joining the Dawgs. He used his offhand which had been resting on the butt stock of his pulse rifle against his left knee jammed barrel down into the floor, and plotted a route to the grid. He brought up a 3D holo view of the area. Urban, typical, cost effective colony structures. Their current course would take them to a turnoff into the sector shortly, but he had time.

He took hid right hand and quickly sent two words to the wrist watch units of his team: big brother. Their wrist units were on a separate channel from main coms and were like the main circuits on a frequency modulated and constantly changing scrambled network. This network was re-filled and loaded daily by support units. The Company was unlikely to have that access unless someone WAY up the USCM chain of command had sold them out. Secure coms were sacred, and the brass knew that.

<Tag 3rd Team>

He worked the route, selecting one that would allow the vehicles to travel securely and relatively quickly with the least amount of exposure to taller structures. He forwarded the route to all vehicles and pinged the platoon commander and Sykes.

"Route ready, transmitted."

"Yes Ma'am," Sykes replied instinctively. He fiddled with the comms equipment as he was jostled up and down in the side seat of the vehicle. Things were quieter now the platoon was a few blocks from the star-port at the foot of the space elevator. The convoy rolled on through the darkened streets of the colony as The Devil Dawgs got themselves organized.

"Do we have an estimated incubation period on your other specimens?"

Director Eckhart turned to look at something off-screen for a moment and then looked up.

"Results were... inconsistent. We've recorded incubation periods of anywhere between 12 and 48 hours. The missing marines are already at the 12hr mark so we don't have time to waste. If any of them are still infected they could pop at any time starting now!"

As soon as Eckhart had finished, LT Harper was back on the comms, issuing orders.

"You heard the director, so let's go and grab 'em.
Sergeant Mayor Sykes, contact the local garrison. We are in need of non-lethal weapons.
Henniger, find me an approach route to this bar, now.
All other, check an memorize the personnel files"

Henniger keyed some new instructions into the simple computer built into the APAC's dash and it rapidly worked out a fresh route to the location of the Eye of Oblivion bar. A final key press sent the route to the drivers of all the platoons vehicles.

SgtMaj Sykes responded equally quickly, busying himself with his APAC's own radio set.

"Garrison, this is Sergeant Major Sykes, Daniel, USCM Special Forces Recon Team. We are en route to your location and requesting non-lethal weaponry to be ready on our arrival, over."

There was a momentary pause and then the voice of Major Meyers crackled back over the link.

"We don't have much Sergeant, but what we do have is at your disposal. We have plenty of sets of riot shields and shock batons and a few combat shotguns which can accept non-lethal loads. We have a couple of boxes of Capacitance Gel Shells and plenty of bean-bag training rounds which should do the same job against an unarmored target. Tell me what you need and I'll have it flown out to your location by cargo drone."
