Turn 10: First Contact (Marines)

Post by Corporal Hicks » Sun Jun 14, 2020 10:36 pm

Henniger squeezed the trigger and his rounds punctuated the silence. The creature on the ceiling emitted a high-pitched scream and dropped to the floor of the tunnel. It tried to charge but the continued pulse rifle fire laid it low. Two more creatures appeared, running toward First Squad. One ran on the floor and the other leapt from wall to wall, apparently clinging to pipes and bulkheads wherever able. Henniger’s fire missed and Paulson squeezed the trigger of the flamethrower. Nothing happened, the pilot light had gone out in the low oxygen.

As Second Squad ran to assist Third Squad, they came into the claustrophobic steam-converter room. Large metal tanks stood about the room, painted maroon. There was a writhing black shape in the midst of Third Squad. The shoulder lamps of the Marines flashed madly about as they grappled with the hideous creature. Duncan body slammed it and Private Rinzler shot it in the head with his pulse rifle. It slumped dead as he did so.

There was a soft hissing sound where the alien’s blood appeared to be reacting with the metal floor like a caustic chemical. Then they heard a loud screaming sound from one of their own. PFC. Karl Sarafian was screaming with pain as if he had been shot. Whatever had been the creature’s blood, it appeared to be melting his armor away. His hands must have been splashed too, because they were turning black and burning up like cooked plastic.

(OOC: As I said elsewhere, I’ve been distracted and struggling with the game for a number of reasons. Sorry for the turn delay and I will try to return to weekly turns.)

The things were there. The infestation that seemed to be plaguing the known human galaxy had made its way to this pristine monolith of human achievement in the sector. Even at where they were in space the things were still managing to go from point to point. They were on a relatively random redirection and yet somehow the Xenomorph scourge was here as well. Though they may have been the most apt people to deal with it, it gave Morse an unshakable sense of dread.

"How much of the galaxy has this things?" Morse wondered. "How far have they spread so far?" and finally. "How far will it get?"

It seemed like the whole of the known universe was starting suffer worse and worse outbreaks, year after year, more and more, with no real sign of it slowing down... much less a positive way for it to be stopped.

There was no answer in the immediate as to why they were there, but there was the ability for Morse, the Marines, and every able bodied shooter on the ship to end it quickly.

Morse had been moving with First Squad, until the units were rejoined together. He let Hall take the lead, but it would give him as easy time to adjust to understanding the situation there.

The fire caught his eye, and he hauled up his Pulse Rife. He was at the rear of the squad however while they were moving and was not in the best firing position. He was sure the squad would do the same as him.

"All squads! Area infestation! Pull up incinerators n' light torches. Fire at will!" Morse directed. "I say again fire at will!"

Without knowing what the other squads were seeing it was impossible to gauge the situation, and with the damage that there already was to the system there was no knowing what firing into it was going to do. But Morse was going to keep them alive as long as possible, as if he didn't, they would all surely die.

Paulson looked at his incinerator in surprise he was sure he had just checked the pilot light he tried to relight it manually he had just about long enough to give it a go before having to go to is side arm.
<roll either special weapon or gun combat to shoot > ooc depending on if pilot light re-ignights
the motion tracker pinged and he automatically glanced at it " range 30 meters closing fast " Paulson called out.

Most of the Marines were too busy to notice, but at that moment the air vents started humming again as life support came online.

Sam led her squad to make contact with the others and almost immediately they were in a scene of chaos.....

The deadly alien xenomorphs were around....a marine was screaming as acidic blood burned into him, the situation was dark, cramped and perfect for going COMPLETELY wrong for t hem in a hurry.....

Hearing Morse behind her call out 'Fire at Will'; Sam went with her instincts.......

She saw Sarafian in a bad way and she yelled out to the only Corpsman/Medic she knew; Quinn. "Quinn! Grab Sarafian and get him back in de middle of us so you can work on 'im! EVERYBODY.....deese 'tings have acid that burns you bad for blood, so watch how you shoot 'dem if you can! Get dose flamethrowers going....dey are de best weapon to use on 'em! POOLE, if you got a shot, use dat big smartgun and hose 'em down before dey get close.....watch the ceiling, floor, everyting! Dey like to climb and crawl in from all angles!"

That done, she looked to see if she had a decent shot at any aliens where she could hit one and it's 'spatter' wouldn't impact any fellow marines. If she had such a shot, she'd take it.....

Henniger stayed clear of the hissing, noxiously steaming "blood" that was busy eating into the deck in front of him where the alien had dropped after he drilled it. He had missed the second one jumping around like some impossibly nimble monkey from pipe to pipe above he and Paulson.
He heard more firing from the right where the other two squads were engaged. He heard Paulson calmly trying to relight his flame unit behind him and to his right. He canted his pulse rifle sideways as he aimed down the barrel and checked his ammo readout. 67 rounds, he'd had a mini mad minute on that first monster in the overhead.
Flipping the carbine back to parallel with his body, he dug his boots into the deck playing and opened fire on the second alien above them.
"Covering!" He called to Paulson while his squad mate dealt with his malfunction.

OOC assuming flame out was critical miss as explained going for second attempt if ok if not ignore this post.
The pilot light re-lit with a tiny pop the blue flame roaring like an mini Bunsen burner. Paulson said a silent thank you to whom ever was listening and slipped his weapon up to its firing position and squeezed the trigger again.

Bozhe moy. Dmitri took one deep breath and got moving, choosing a spot that would allow him a decent field of fire but also cover his squad. Here we go again

Taking aim at the xenos approaching from above, Dmitri lay down a line of fire to shred them to bits--trying his damnedest not to get that acid blood on anyone. The xenos having the high ground made his skin crawl. If just one of those things, JUST ONE, managed to get past their front line and drop within their midst, it would be next to impossible to shoot it without hitting another Marine, either with bullets or acid.

So, Dmitri resolved to make sure none of the xenos made it that far.

Isabel got to her feet after the creature had been subdued. She felt off kilter a bit and the fact that one had just landed on top of her out of nowhere was very unnerving. She looked for targets, remembering what she had overheard from others about the horrid monstrosities and tried to make sure she was setting up a good shot to reduce the odds of giving someone an acid shower.
