Turn 4: Crowd Control (Navy)

Post by Corporal Hicks » Sat Apr 18, 2020 8:03 pm

Back at the hangar, the civilians outside the USS Heimlich were getting louder and angrier. “Are you threatening me?!” the leader shouted at Fernandez, “I’m going to report you! You think you can tell us what to do?! If you’re going to use that gun, why don’t you use it!”

Knight had run to grab the sentry guns and he was just getting ready to set them up when he was given an order by Ensign Yu, currently in command of the Heimlich. “What are you doing? Stop that, we don’t have time. We need to take off right now. Go tell those guys to get back onboard, we have orders!” As the android moved off, Yu spoke directly to Fernandez through his headset. “Fernandez, get all of our crew onboard as soon as possible! We have a problem; the terrorists are attacking life support and we are taking off now!” He moved to the bridge to start the ship’s engines.

Meanwhile, Fernandez found himself being pushed back by the angry crowd. The four Navy crewman with him gave him nervous glances. Then the Heimlich’s engines started to hum with activity. The crowd’s intensity grew exponentially and some of them started throwing things at the Navy guys. The woman leading them punched Fernandez in the chest which knocked the wind out of him for a second. Things were getting out of control.

Bosuns Apprentice Bryant looked nervously at PO Fernandez. She had instantly disliked the woman stirring up the crowd. Bryant had always had a temper problem. She had lost her E3 because of it. Now, as an E2 she felt she didn't have much to lose. Hell, she'd already been assigned to this death sentence, shuttling a Marine Black Ops unit around was worse than her last sea duty and that was running the duty roster on a garbage scow.

Bryant was tall and skinny but she boxed with her boss the Bosun's Mate First. She risked a step forward and snatched the bitch causing trouble up by the collar.

<roll intimidation>

"Look you slag." She hissed between her teeth while pulling her service pistol from her belt. She pressed the barrel into the soft flesh beneath the chin of the strongly squirming civvy bitch.

"Get the FUCK away from my ship or I'll turn your fucking head into a supernova."

Fernandez staggered only for a second but did his best to compose as quickly as possible. As he returned his gaze to the woman to set things straight he saw Bryant holding a gun to the wannabe revolutionary's head.

"I guess I should have warned you first about her, huh? The Navy ain't pushovers lady, and I won't stop my compatriot from doing what she sees as necessary to keep the calm." Fernandez sounded confident but looked at Bryant in the hopes she was just trying to have the lady back down.

Fernandez got on his radio and attempted to reach anyone with the Marines.

"Hall, Duncan, Morse, we need to get everyone back on the Heimlich now. Yu is initiating take off orders. Repeat, get back to the Heimlich!"

Fernandez then responded to Yu, making sure no civilian could overhear. "Yu, how many people can this ship detach with?"

“Fernandez, this is Sykes. We are too far from you, you’ll just have to come back for us, over.”

The civilian was not wanting to be deterred and she wasn’t inclined to believe the threats, but Bryant picked her up by the collar and she felt her windpipe being cut off by her tight suit. The cold metal of the gun on her chin was pretty compelling as well. The people around her gasped at the force being shown. They had not expected this reaction from their own military. One did not need to have intimate knowledge of the Boston Massacre to imagine how soldiers might react when stones were thrown at them.

“Okay, okay,” she gasped in a conciliatory voice.

Fernandez heard a reply from Ensign Yu in his headset earpiece. “Max capacity is 36, although we just spent a month living with more than that.”

Fernandez set to action as soon as both radio calls came in. He breathed a silent prayer as he put in motion the actions that would leave the marines stranded, but there was no other option.

"Here's the deal, while all of you have committed actions that endangered both the marines that entered your station and your fellow civilians, we are commencing an emergency evacuation. Everyone on board, but if anyone sets foot near the bridge you will be shot on sight. Knight, can you make sure everyone gets to the mess hall? I'll meet you there shortly." Fernandez barked orders to the civilians, followed by a radio call to Knight as he was hopefully on his way to the docking station.

Fernandez noticed the lady he now knew as Brenda Vang relax slightly, and he knew they could get an upper hand in this moment.

"Ms. Vang, you are placed under arrest for assaulting military personnel. Bryant, if you would take her in please?"

<Tag Bryant>

Fernandez sighed, there are too many moving parts to this operation now. Having to juggle between all of these catastrophes made him wish he was in the marine's position, all they needed was a gun and a willingness to go out in flame and glory. Then he turned his attention back to Yu.

"Ensign Yu, we are going to need to make a diversion to the May, we have some civilians and at least one prisoner to drop off."

Bryant felt the tension not fall away from her but ramp up another notch. She did feel shame though. It hasn't been her intention to pull her sidearm. She released the woman and backed away two steps. She felt the metal in her hand, the pistol not lowered not pointing at anyone. The metal was damp with her sweat.
She kept an infuriated stare she didn't quite still have the full passion for locked on the woman. She was happy to pull a set of flex cuffs from her crew belt and closed the distance with the upstart. She reluctantly holstered her sidearm and held the cuffs out.

"Turn around, we'll take these off when we get you turned over to the military authorities."

She'd never had to arrest a civilian before. Usually it was drunk Marines on liberty when she'd had to pull shore patrol a few times. She tried to act more confident than she felt. She looked to Fernandez to make sure she was cleared to proceed.

Finishing the last of the flight preparations Chief Petty Officer Zoe Barr contacted Ensign Yu.

"Sir all flight conditions are green," she said, her thick New York accent coming through thick and fast.

<tag Ensign Yu>

Turning on the comms Barr broadcast a ship wide message.

"Now hear this! Flight preparations are complete, lift off in five minutes. All hatches will be secured in t-minus four minutes."

Closing the comms Barr turned her attention back to the controls.
