It blinked in and out, the little hopping rodents were interfering with the signal. As he stepped into the dark behind Perez, he saw a large dot start blinking eleven meters ahead and to the right. From out of the darkness came a low grunting sound.

all of a sudden the adrenalin level in his blood-stream rose sky high and the world around him seemed to slow down. Instincts took over, the urge to kill was overwhelming, and he let the smartgun tracking system lock onto the target, while trying to get a clear visual of the source of the grunting sound ...

A burst of orange flame shot forth right in the face of the alien hog-beast. Its aggressive roar immediately transformed into a squealing howl of terror. It turned to its left and bolted away through the newly carved ravine. It looked more like a streaking fireball than a living creature as it blindly charged away. Corporal Barayev was unable to bring his rifle to bear because Paulson stood in his way. However, Petty Officer Fernandez fired a long burst that must have gone home because the fireball tumbled to the ground and lay still. The smell of burned meat filled the air, evoking animalistic hunger in most of them.

The other hog-beast heard the squeal of terror and charged straight at Giosso. He fired one pistol shot before clumsily dodging to the left. The beast did not hit him head on, but its massive weight tossed him sprawling onto Seaman Darrel Stark. The two of them landed bodily in the mud, sore but apparently uninjured. The beast’s charge was not stopped, and it barreled onward. Morse and Barayev had a split second to react before it would pile into them.

Inside the supply locker, Perez shined his shoulder lamp towards the growling sound. All that showed was the glinting of two bright yellow eyes. A snarling sound replaced the growling and the eyes bobbed as the creature slunk forward.

Quinn had been some distance away from Giosso in the center, and saw the beast stumble out of the jungle. Given the similar appearance to the little creatures and the presence of the second beast, he thought that they had stumbled into their nest. He was about to say such when the flamer went off and the two hogs reacted. He dodged to one side out of the path of the hog when it charged, coming up to one knee with the rifle to his shoulder.

He dialed into the charging beast, aimed and waited for a clear shot. When there was one, he took a breath, half-exhaled and slowly pressed the trigger of the Sniper Rifle, the loud BOOM of the gun echoing through the jungle.

Dmitri saw the beast bearing down on him and saw that some of his team were downrange of it. There'd be no shooting: if he missed the beast, he'd risk shooting a fellow Marine. Dmitri dove aside, tucked into a roll across his shoulders, and used the momentum to stagger to his feet. He still had his rifle but shooting the beast would be up to Morse now.

Perez had the best job in the whole wide universe, because he just hatd to wait for the frag of a second 'till the smartgun tracking system aquired the target and auto-aimed the barrel, so he just had to squeeze the trigger and firing a burst shot at the forward darting creature ...

Pushkin noticed the single large blip on his motion tracker, as well as the glowing yellow eyes. He whispered to Perez, “Contact, 11 meters.” Hearing the gunfire outside was a slight distraction, but he knew he was in a life or death situation in here. He raised his pistol and tried to find the nearest cover as the yellow eyes began to come toward them. When he heard Perez open fire, he squinted through the dark and took a few shots with his pistol, begrudging that he had no better firepower.

Adrenaline worked in a strange way in Morse. After ten waking years of being in combat situations, Morse did not feel panic and dread the same as he had in his younger years. It now manifested with accelerated heart beats, but a gritted toothed under bite overtook his features as he gazed on his enemy. His enemy was anything inhuman and or under a hostile flag. Morse had not thought anything of extermination and extinction beyond that of his own culture and personnel for years.

He witnessed the action transpiring, the Marines not hesitating to unload upon the beasts bearing down upon them. He held his own fire, knowing the ammunition expenditure would be difficult to make up with their present situation. Still he did not need to micromanage a firefight until it got out of hand, and at the moment they were killing what appeared to be nonsentient pigs... Morse had fought different sorts of aliens... both intelligent and not. These sort given their size did not make him sweat beyond the potential goring.

Morse witnessed one pig break through ranks and bear down on him. His weapon was at the ready, and his eyes were sharp. While it had breached his breached his point, Morse knew the risk was moderate. That still would not stop him, as the pig would just charge into downed marines unless something happened to stop it. And what better place to hit a pig then square in its eyes.

Morse discharged his M41A Pule rifle with bursts directed dead towards its face and eyes. He'd have little time to move with the shots, and would likely get scraped up if it collided with him, but it was worth the attempt... besides, with synth skin and a prosthetic leg... how much more could it hurt.

He fired his weapon and attempted to dive left in time to be away from the charge.
