June 7, 2189
Location: Outer Veil, Neroid Sector, Near Former Penal Labor Colony
Mission Time: 09:34:21
End-Of-Turn: June 29, 2019

The main group of Devil Dawgs ran forward into the darkness of the hallway. Their own shoulder lamps lit the steel walls of the corridor and up ahead they saw two bouncing white lights. No doubt these were the shoulder lamps of the retreating marines. The air smelled like mildew and their feet clanked loudly on the metal floor as they jogged forward.

A few yards before a small junction in the hallway, Sykes raised his arm and called out his order. “Halt! Set up a firebase here, front men kneel!” As the marines slowed to a stop, they saw the outlines of three humans sprinting toward them in the middle of the hallway. Those with infrared sensors saw the glowing forms of the three retreating marines. Around them, they saw fast-moving black shapes closing in. Two on the left, two on the right, and two running upside down on the ceiling, ready to pounce. Clearly the Devil Dawgs had only seconds to react.
(OOC: Sykes, Grisham, Honeysett, Paulson, and Pushkin will have a chance to react.)

Corporal Sixtus Quinn moved down the much smaller side-corridor. He was completely alone in the tight space. Suddenly he saw the movement of the flanking xenomorphs charging directly towards him. No doubt their intent to flank the Dawgs would be superseded by their desire to kill the single helpless prey if they saw him. He too had only seconds to react, There was a large crate directly on his right which he might hide behind. Ten meters forward and on his left was a small door, no doubt leading into the main tunnel with the other marines.

Morse and Sarafian joined up with Eagle and Pitt at the entrance. The APC could be seen approaching them. They could see nothing down the dark hallway except the light of the marines’ flashlights about 50 meters away. The cold weather gear lay in a heap with the SADAR and some other equipment abandoned by the others.

Paulson lower his motion detector and steadied his aim down his pulse rifle, oh how he would have liked time to set up a sentry gun or six that would solve all the issues.
“Halt! Set up a firebase here, front men kneel!”
Paulson dropped to one knee increasing his stability even more.
“covering fire, engaging right side” he responded, squeezing the trigger gently in short bursts. The pulse rifle jumped lightly in his hands; controlled bursts sped down range.
The noise level ramped up as the rest of the squad picked their targets and began to engage. Paulson could see impacts near his targets but was not sure if he had scored any hits, he fired another burst just to make sure.

Grisham raised his smartgun and took aim at the xenomorphs who were scuttling along the ceiling. His twisted face hardened like a walnut as he pressed down on the trigger with no intention of letting go until the xenomorphs moved no more.

Seeing a flash of oncoming movement in the dark, Sixtus reacted fast by ducking behind the crate and pushing himself into the corner as best he could. The door was not a good option, as the xenos would definitely see him and would just draw them down onto him. But if they ran past him here, he might be able to execute a fast ambush and withdraw to that door or further down the hallway.

He turned the volume on his radio almost all the way down, and slowed his breathing. The sound of his heart was in his ears as adrenaline seeped into his bloodstream. His rifle cradled in his hands, and he waited, listening for the sound of carapace on metal.

The bear-sized Corporal Pushkin stood at the rear of the unit. Choosing quickly, he opened fire on the left two aliens with his pulse rifle.

Main Hallway:
The marines opened fire all at once. PFC. Paulson fired down the right side of the hall and both aliens were ripped to pieces by his bullets. Corporal Pushkin sent lead downrange on the left side, and one of the aliens dropped to the ground in writhing agony. PFC. Grisham's smartgun jumped to the left target that ran along the ceiling. Squeezing the trigger, he saw its head explode with a spray of yellowish goop in all directions. With barely any motion by Grisham, the auto-lock casually moved to the next target and the smartgunner depressed the trigger again. The creature was in mid-pounce when the bullets tore into it and halted its progress mid-air. Its body tumbled backwards but the blood continued forward from the momentum of its jump. It splashed the floor just behind the running marines, only a few minuscule drops splashed the armored back of Sgt. Patel. He screamed in pain as the acid burned tiny holes in him, but he was largely unhurt. The last xenomorph which had evaded Pushkin was splattered by an expert burst from Sergeant Major Sykes.

Side Hallway:
Corporal Quinn ducked behind the crate and held his breath. He could feel the floor under him vibrating from the running beasts. He also heard the very near sound of pulse rifles and a smartgun in the adjoining hallway. Unfortunately for Quinn, the aliens sensed his presence. In silent agreement, two of them turned at the doorway ten meters ahead of his position. The third was sufficient to kill the lone creature which was hiding and not likely to be a threat. In a heartbeat, the beast leapt the crate and landed in front of Quinn. Its hideous shelled foot landed right on his groin-plate which protected him from some pain but certainly not all. It spun around and grabbed at him with its hideous hands.
<Tag Quinn>

Main Hallway:
The two aliens that left Quinn barreled out of the side door, not five meters in front of the Devil Dawgs. The three running marines stumbled and skidded to a halt to prevent crashing directly into the things.

Paulson was glad he had been kneeling as the two Xenomorph burst from an unseen doorway. A brown trouser moment it most definitely was. He aimed quickly and sprayed two bursts down range screaming as he did.“contact danger close!”
It was only after he had fired did he consider the acid spray he had been warned about.

What happened next was a nasty blur of action. The xeno pounced at Quinn’s location, but at least he was only facing one of the damned things. Because of how he was crouched, the Marine had his rifle in his hands. And literal years of training had drilled into him to NEVER let go of his weapon.

A single claw landed on his groin plate, which put pressure on his pelvis. It hurt, but it was a dull ache which Quinn’s psyche pushed into the background as there was a rather large xenomorph right in front of him. Instinct kicked in, he flicked the rifle up and held down the trigger, dumping a third of the magazine into the alien with a yell of ”FUCK!”
