Turn 17 - Exit

Post by Nick » Sat Aug 06, 2011 11:01 pm

Unidentified Asteroid, near space trade lane, In vicinity of communications relay
Mission timer: 02.08.33

Obi fiddled around with the system. It was icon based and after som trial and error Obi saw that it was quite ingenously designed. Obi swept his hand over the control and after a few minutes, and step backs, he managed to actually navigate himself to some sort of door control. It became eerily evident that whoever designed this had a major part in how human designs had evolved as well - some icons were extremely similar to what you would see in a standard system on earth or on one of the colonies.

The doors hissed open on the far side of the control room and after a few second it actually seemed like no aliens were going to rush in after all. Lt Ericson waved the marines forward with her gloved hand.

The Marines exfiled out of the room. This corridor similar to the one they entered through, although there were some pipes and wierd looking portrusions in the roof. The corridor sloped steadily upwards as it became more and more cramped.

Lt Ericons felt almost like she was going to faint. They had been at this for less than two hours but it had been two hell hours. On top of that they had stumbled upon something incredibly important, but that felt almost second hand to getting out alive.

The fact that the shaft was sloping upwards were a positive, up meant towards the surface and that could not be bad.

Lt Ericson halted for a few seconds urging the marines to pass her by. She slapped them on the back and encouraged them - she hoped she didn't sound too exhausted.

Duncan breathed a sigh of relief when the exit appeared. He wanted to get the Hell out of this place. Not that he wasn't interested in what quite possibly the greatest historical discovery ever. But they were trapped here. This place had died out millenia ago. Which meant this had been those things home ground for that time.

As they walked out, Duncan looked at the ceiling. These things love an ambush.

"We need to stay close. And watch the rear."

Something felt wrong to Joe. After their ambush , flight, and subsequent discovery, getting out seemed too damn easy. He kept tense and alert as they progressed in what seemed like an upward direction.

Quinn saw Ericson give the wave ahead, and he nodded to take his own initiative.

"Sam, on point. Rednus, second. Obi, tail-end charlie." he muttered into the comm, the customary business-like chill entering his voice. He lifted his rifle and followed after Rednus and Samantha, covering the two Marines.

Obi gave the console a final pat as the door opened seamlessly. "Your welcome all, can I drive a console or what? " He said it his headset with a grin.
"Sam, on point. Rednus, second. Obi, tail-end charlie." he muttered into the comm, the customary business-like chill entering his voice. He lifted his rifle and followed after Rednus and Samantha, covering the two Marines.
Unslinging his rifle, Obi fell into position at the rear of his squad with his pulse rifle at the ready.

"Lets get the hell out of here people." Obi muttered as the squad moved out.

Samantha suddenly felt lighter and happier....the orders to get the hell out of there had finally come. Throwing a "Roger that"; to Quinn; she levelled her Pulse Rifle and moved to the Point position; keeping every sense on high alert for any sign of the vicous aliens. She also flicked off the Rifle's safety and pumped a grenade into the launcher's chamber.

Samantha felt a threat but it was fading for every step she took.

Samantha began to feel better and better about the situation; but she kept herself alert and called out on the platoon-wide channel; "This is Hall at the point; it looks like those things aren't around up here; so keep an eye out back there. Stay frosty."

The pain in his leg was returning as Dirk watched the door open. He would make it, no matter what was placed in front of him. But he wold feel every step of the way.

"Outstanding work Obi." Dirk said

"Stay alert and watch your spacing Marines" Dirk said as he walked cautiously through the door.

"Outstanding work Obi." Dirk said
"Thanks Boss. Make sure you remember that when it is performance review time for my next promotion." Obi quipped lightly despite the current situation.

"Cut the chatter First." Quinn growled over the commnet. "Less talking, more walking."

He switched over to the squad leader's comm channel and muttered "Appears to be clear, moving forward."

"Yes sir", responded Red to Quinn's order, and continued with Sam at the front of first squad.
He'd be glad when this op was completed, there were many things to ponder, many cigarettes to smoke and some mourning to do.

But first things first, escape.
