Turn 9 - Impact

Post by Nick » Thu May 19, 2011 4:19 pm

Unidentified Asteroid, near space trade lane, In vicinity of communications relay
Mission timer: 01.11.23

Lt Ericson registered Chappells shout just about the same time she saw the movement. They were just across the brigde now and Squad 3 were just passing the center of the bridge. Ericson spun around as Chappell shouted "Movement" and what she saw shocked her to the very core. Two dark shadows flung up from beneath the arch of the bridge. One crashed into a marine and disappeared with him over the edge and fell into the mist below in a tangle of limbs. The other creature slammed its wirey tale right across the faceshield of the second marine and illuminated by his should-light a myriad glass pieces glittered like sparks. There were no screams, no nothing. The Alien then spun towards the other Marines of third squad, ready to pounce.

"Oh shit it got Silas!" someone screamed. "Were is Carter? Carter?! Of shit it's over there go get it shoot, shoot!" another voice filled in. But there was a problem. The alien were between third squad and second and first squad. Any rounds missing the creature would risk hitting the marines on the other side of the small bridge.

Lt Ericson could not helpt to admire the perfectly sprung ambush, moments later she heard Chappells tracker starting to sound again. Large contact coming from the door behind their backs. Things where going south. Quick.

Duncan was taken by surprise when one of the monsters leapt up and snatched Silas from right in front of him. The other was between his squad and the rest of the platoon. Despite the obvious threat in front of him, Duncan checked to see if there were any more closing in from the bridge, the doorways or the walls of the room.

<Scouting, Awareness>

Duncan switched his pulse rifle to single shot. You don't have the worry about over-penetration with explosive rounds. You just can't miss.

Duncan readied his weapon to fire a shot at the monster.

The situation had got out of hand, thought Red.The chaos playing out in silence required the upmost concentration, and to him there seemed only one course of action.

"DUNCAN MAKE THE SHOT !!" He barked.

With this, Chappell readied his rifle, hoping to hell the new kid was a grade 'A' marksman.

Inside Duncan's helmet, Chappell's voice cut through the lone sound of his breathing. He aimed for the creature and squeezed off a round.

Duncan was prepared to fire more at the monster if it was still alive, or at others if they appeared.

Everything seemed to happen all at once. One moment he was with his squad, moving across the bridge after the others had made it across. No movement on any trackers and no reason to believe that they wouldn't make it across. The next moment the things had attacked. Two of his men were already down and one of the creatures that had taken them was standing on the bridge between the safety of the other side and what was left of his squad.

"Contact! Open fire, open fire!" Dirk shouted over the comm to Duncan as he dropped to a knee giving Duncan room to fire.
<Tag Duncan>

Dirk squeezed the trigger of his M-41A sending the 10mm rounds at his attacker. silently hoping that the rounds found their mark.

A rush of yelling, orders and screams nearly deafened Joe as the ambush was sprung. He spun around to see a tall black shape with a tail standing in between him and the bridge. Its lithe ugly body stood on two of its legs as it appeared to be confronting the Marines of the Third Herd.

He realized what was about to happen and could only manage a "GET DOWN!" in his radio as he attempted to fall prone to the ground.

Those crazy assholes!

Also is there a reaction-styled ability/skill/etc that should be rolled here?

Obi made it to the other side of the bridge without incident, in what seemed to take like an eternity. Sweating heavily inside his suit, Obi just wished for a instant that he could mop his brow, but instead and to put up with the sweat running down his face. Continuing forward Obi whirled around when he heard Red's voice shout out a warning. Obi jaw dropped as he saw a body of a marine get dragged over the side of the bridge by an oh so familiar dark shape. When movement caught his eye as another Alien appeared and took out another marine. Fuck, fuck fuck. Obi thought as he brought his Pulse Rifle to bear. Obi swore in frustration as he realised that he couldn't take a shot without the risk of hitting the marines still on the bridge. The comm was alive with shouting and Obi eyes widened as he realised that the Alien had cut the platoon in two. A perfect position for the marines to run the risk of serious friendly fire occuring. Realising that there was hardly any cover available Obi kept low and tried to make himself as small as a target as possible as the roar of a Pulse Rifle opened up.....

Rascal couldnt believe his eyes. Within moments, the platoon was split apart by nightmarish creatures that should not, and could not, possibly exist. Pulse fire and incoherent shouts over the comms rang out in his helmet, forcing him to drop to the deck. He lifted his own rifle, but shook off the notion of taking any shots; no way was he going to risk capping any of his own squaddies.

Sixtus's head whipped around to see a blur of something black and spindley grab a Marine and disappear under the bridge. Rednus' tracker was pinging off with movement, but the big one was coming from the door. Something bad was going to happen very soon.

"Sensor contact beyond the door. Big and moving towards us." his voice was calm and flat as he radioed the Lieutenant. "We need to get away from this door ma'am, right now."

<tag Lieutenant>

He heard Rednus snapping an order across the comms. It wasn't so much an order as a screamed plea. A part of his mind made a mental note to talk with him about that later. "First squad, we're moving. Obi, stick next to the el-tee. Grab her if you need to."

<tag First Squad>

"Sergeant, we got contact beyond the door, a big one. We need to move back across the bridge and now unless you want to find out what it is."

<tag Dirk>

Rednus shook the panic from his mind as an order finally made its way through the comm. The ambush had caught everyone off guard, especially Silas. In a situation such as this, Red didn't like idle marines.

"Sir, YES SIR" responded Red to the plan Quinn had laid out.
Chappell slung his rifle and eyed the motion tracker for any more inbound surprises, and began to move out with the rest of First squad.

From his position Obi couldn't see if the alien had been hit. All he knew that when the firing started none of it had hit him. Well I guess we know what happened to the poor bastards from the other platoon. Obi thought grimly as he picked himself up. His headset crackled as Quinns voice addressed First Squad.
"First squad, we're moving. Obi, stick next to the el-tee. Grab her if you need to."
"Roger, understood all." Obi responded as he moved back towards the LT's position. Shouting and pulse rifle firing still burst through the comm, as Obi doggedly moved foward. Sounds like some of the new guys are losing it.

Reaching the LT Obi grabbed her by the shoulder and spun her around till his helmet faced hers. Her eyes wide with adrenaline and fear. Keying his comm Obi looked at her as he spoke slowly.

"Ma'am, those things have lots of friends on the way and the Sarge says we are getting out of here. You stick to me like glue! Don't fuck around or I'll drag you kicking and screaming. Do you understand me?"

As Dirk sent 10 mm rounds towards the Alien standing between what was left of his squad and the rest of the platoon he heard Quinn over to comm giving orders to grab the LT and fall back due to a large contact behind a door.

"Roger that on the large contact. What happened to the LT?" He asked, unable to see if the LT was down.

"El-tee is golden, Sarge. Escorting her back across the bridge." Sixtus replied to Dirk, his rifle up and tracking for any movement. He moved at a smooth, steady clip back across the bridge.

Joe hoped that the firing towards him and the other Marines was over and he came to a knee as he trained his M41 outboard.

"Corporal Morse? Anyone? What do we need to do?" there was an uncertain tone to his voice as his training tried to keep him reigned in, concentrating on covering a sector of fire. He wanted to act but it wasn't his place to. When it was time to move or shoot someone would let him know...

I hope...

Pitt fired first shortly followed by Duncan. Pitt missed just barely as his burst threw sparks from the landwalk in front of the alien, the round impacts flickering as the small explosive charge in the 10mm light armor piercing explosive tipped rounds exploded. The Alien snarled but Duncan caught it square in the chest with a quick doubletap, the rounds not being more than a few centimeters apart. The rounds exploded inside the creature and a shower of white goo sprayed out behind it as pieces of exploded bullets and guts blew out its back. The alien thrashed violently and crashed to the bridge, slowly slipping over the edge and disappearing below.

Lt Ericson started to retreat over the bridge. Her heart pounded so high she could not hear much else than her heavy breathing. "Watch it the door is opening!" she shouted as she saw a stream of light shoot out from under the door. "Incinerators up front! Move it god damnit! Move!" Lt Ericson screamed.

A few marines rushed past her, one of them brushing into her slightly and she lost balance. The world twirled and she let out a gasp of fear as the went over the edge into the mist below. Suddenly she was jerked uppright and she jolt was so violent she struck her face into the lower part of the faceshield. Her nose immediately burst up in a small torrent of blood. Sharp pain shot up her head and small bright fireflies seemed to be dancing in front of her face. She tried to turn her head and saw that her life support system had snagged on something, suspending her and holding her alive.

"Oh shit! Fuck! Help me! Get me the hell out of here!" she shouted not worried about hiding her panic anymore.
