Rascal felt the slap of the rounds ratchet up his torso, the force dropping him right onto his back. He cursed aloud, not wanting to glance down to see how mucked up he was. Saw this coming, he thought, subconsciously fumbling at his belt for his med kit. Gunfire roared overhead, drowning out Marcus' shout, but Rascal got the jist of it. "Yeah, let me just drop what im doing here buddy, not important whatsoever," Rascal grunted aloud.

(They just hit your armor. If they had done anything else, I would have told you. So don't worry, your armor stopped the rounds from getting through.)

As if a voice from above scolded him for his stupidity, Rascal realized he would not be needing his medkit after all. "They dont call me Rascal for nothin" he muttered, crouching and lifting his rifle. As soon as one of the targets popped up, he pulled the trigger, sending a quick 3-round burst its way.

When Duncan saw the bunkers, he crouched down and signaled *enemies* *forward*. Before anything could come of it, several enemies popped up and opened fired. Duncan returned fire, trying to hit the targets with short bursts.

<Roll Gun Combat>

Once the pop-ups were dealt with, Duncan kept low to the ground, signal ing the others *bunkers* *forward*. He then made a judgement of the distance to the bunkers and fired a grenade.

Marcus opened fire, blasting away with precise three-round bursts of his weapon. Three of the four targets he was aiming at went down, the last one firing another burst at Marcus. It hit him, putting three training rounds into his left arm. Each training round had a paralytic agent and a red paint blotch, and Marcus felt his left arm go numb and nonresponsive.

Rascal opened fire and downed the target that had been trying to "kill" Marcus, paving the way for Duncan to take aim with a grenade launcher and demolish a bunker, the fragmentation round sailing through the tiny slit to detonate inside, the roof caving up from the pressure wave and smoke curled out from the gaps in the logs that made up the fortification.

The other bunker still sprayed rounds into the air, forcing the three cadets to hit the ground and take cover.

The moment his arm began to go slack, the words. "HIT!" found their way out of Marcus's mouth. He was already down on the ground, rolling behind a heavy looking tree for cover. He tore his individual first aid kit from his pack and slammed ran through the drilled procedure of cleaning and staunching a battle wound. If his arm was numb, exercise regulations would indicate he was probably bleeding out were this a real fight.

He slammed an adhesive patch onto the 'wounded' area and wound a bandage around it tightly. Lastly he slammed small pen-needle labeled 'EXERCISE adrenaline EXERCISE' into his arm just above the wounded area.

He didn't want to cad carry his rifle unless he knew he could use it properly. So he let it hang in his battle harness, while drawing up his pistol.

Hugging the ground, Duncan took a quick glance at his squad. Wanewright was throwing bandages on top of his wound, and Rascal was taking cover. Duncan snapped his fingers once to get Rascal's attention, then signaled *Cover* *Me*. Duncan knew he had to move. Sensors on the SAW are probably waiting for me to pop up from this location. Take out the SAW first, then tend to the 'wounded.' We need to keep moving. A rough outline for a plan prepared, Duncan began crawling further to the right. He kept an eye open for any traps or ambushes, with his gun on full auto.

Once he was satisfied with his new position, he switched back to his grenade launcher. Barker probably didn't have a grenade launcher. Thank God for progress. Judging the distance, Duncan fired off a grenade into the remaining bunker.

Rascal's eyes caught Duncan's signal, standing up briefly to let out a rip of suppressing fire towards the bunker. He shot back down into cover before the bunker could respond to his presence, slapping in a fresh magazine. He allowed himself a few moments of hesitation before he repeated his earlier move, his eyes searching briefly for his squadmates. Marcus seemed okay; a closer inspection would have to wait, however. Duncan was prepping a grenade, attention locked upon the bunker. Well, least these guys know what they're doing, he thought, sliding back down into cover.

Feeling started to seep back into Marcus's arm as the adrenaline hit his system. As a side effect, the world around him seemed to slow down ever so slightly as his brain was able to take in more information than it would normally was able to. His arm was still too numb to grip a weapon just yet. Bullets ripped into the log that he was hiding behind, a few punching through and past him. He could hear the boom-crack of the rounds passing close to his head, but none found their intended target.

Rascal suppressed the heavy gun postion with autofire of his own, his rifle bucking in his grip as he let out short controlled bursts, peppering the bunker itself. The firing stopped momentarily, giving Duncan the precise moment he needed.

Duncan moved through the terrain, but moved the wrong way at a wrong time. A sound rang out, a sharper crack amongst the thudding of the heavy machine guns. A single round hit the dirt not two feet from him. He wasn't able to determine the location of the shot as he scrambled into a covered firing position. Locating the second bunker, he took aim with the grenade launcher and popped one into the firing slit, the grenade detonating inside with a dull THUMP.

Duncan stayed tucked in his position. There's a sniper somewhere. Looking to Rascal, he signaled *Sniper* *Position* *?*. Not being able to get a definitive answer, Duncan decided they needed to get a fix on this sniper quickly. Based on the description of the challenge, the longer they stayed in one position, more firepower would be brought to bear on them.

Duncan unstrapped his helmet and turned on the safety to his pulse rifle. He signaled again *Watch* *For* *Sniper*. He extended the butt of the rifle and placed his helmet on it. No need risking trauma to the barrel. He slowly lifted the rifle so the top of his helmet peeked over the cover.

As the world slowed Marcus took stock of the situation: the suppressing fire was dealt with, his arm was tended too, and they hadn't fully broken ground at the hill.

He could see the dirt explode from the incoming sniper round, Marcus broke down the corridors of attack the shot could have come from.

From high ground? That narrowed the range considerably. Were there trees damaged by the shot? No? Yes? If they had been that'd be a damn give away.

If not, there would be only a few straight shots to the patch of dirt. Lectures and drills on long range combat echoed through his brain.

Rascal shrugged towards his squadmate, unsure of the new threat's actual position. He had been momentarily distracted by the obliteration of the bunker, had not been aware that a sniper was about until after Duncan signaled.

He sighed; Least the Corps likes to keep us on our toes. He watched Duncan's next sign, checked his ammo counter; half a clip, good enough. Quickly his eyes shot back out towards the front, waiting for the inevitable muzzle flash. "Come on out, you sonuvabitch...come on out," he chanted under his breath, taking aim down the pulse rifle's sight. They needed to get rid of the target and soon....the clock was still ticking, and he wanted to win.

As Duncan raised his helmet, the sniper took the bait, the helmet being knocked back and the rifle torn from Duncan's hand to lie a foot behind him. His helmet went bouncing away down the hill.

Rascal saw the muzzle flash of the shooter, who was hiding up in a palm tree about two-hundred yards away.

Marcus also saw the flash, but managed to spy a small target on the tree just below the leaves.

Duncan watched the helmet roll down the hill. He knew he wouldn't be able to catch it before it stopped of its own accord. And running in the open without a helmet seemed foolhardy. Focus on what you do can do.

He picked up his pulse rifle and made sure the safety was still on. Seeing that it was, Duncan wiping off sand and checking his gun to make sure it was still in working order. He started with the grenade tube, since it was larger and therefore easier to check. He popped out the two remaining grenades, made sure they were clean, made sure the barrel was clean and undamaged, then reloaded the grenades.

After that, he repeated the process for the rifle. He took out the clip, made sure to remove any sand, checked the breech and barrel for sand or any sign of damage.

Other than keeping low and checking and cleaning his weapons, all he could was wait for the others to deal with the sniper.

Marcus's eyes returned to a semblance of normalcy as the shooting continued, he turned to his squadmates and gestured twice. <SNIPER> <IN THE TREES> <11> <High>

He had to stay out of sight, with just his pistol he wasn't going to do any more than draw fire. Still, he leaned his arm a bit and fired to blind shots in the general direction of the target, it might give one of the others time to shoot back.
