Morse entered down the tunnel, not enthusiastically. Now that he was in there, he wanted to be out of it. That drive was even stronger then him not wanting to go in in the first place. But such things are what moved him towards staying alive. Should things go bad, an exit strategy was always advised. And given the platoons record, and exit strategy was typically used mid mission. He still refused to turn on his red eye, and used the very bright shoulder lamp to illuminate his end of the tunnel. The ticking of the motion tracker delved into his mind, as it always did. The only sound was from the clumping of boots and that ticking. He was waiting for a whine from it though. Those were always his "favorite" parts of every mission.

Suddenly he caught something his eye. His whole body shifted with weapon, and tensed, ready to fire. "The fuck was that." Morse demanded of the darkness, somewhat confused. He saw nothing, panned his light, still trying to see if anything had been there. It wasn't even that far away, maybe 10 feet at most. He backed up a bit towards his squad. "Anyone one else see somethin'?" He asked quietly back towards his squad who he was now in the middle of. But he didn't take his eyes away from where he was looking. He didn't see anything, but suspicion was good enough for him.

After a few moments of ensuring they were the only ones there; Simovic ordered the marines to move deeper into the tunnel; slowly and carefully.
O'brien was able to maintain comms with CAPT Ramirez in the Dropship; but the signal was getting more static-filled the deeper they moved into the mountain
Proceeding along in the SSGTs' wake Obi maintained open comms to Capt Ramirez, though it seemed that each step further that he took into the mine, the signal degraded that little bit more. Obi adjusted his wrist mounted controls, which allowed him to make adjustments to the radioset without having to take it off. Obi sighed as the last transmission came through from the Captain was serverly garbled and the intelligibilty of the signal was poor. Closing the gap to the SSGT, Obi spoke in a hushed voice.

"Just as I thought Staff, comms are pretty much down, untill we get inside the facility, nothing intelligible is going to get through.

Simovic moved with the rest of the platoon into the tunnel, everyone was on edge expecting the worse. The shoulder lamps off each Marine were casting erie shadows that danced across the walls and ceiling giving the impression of movement where there was none. The only sound was the marines boots crunching on the rock below and their breathing as they moved up to reveal a tunnel intersection. Suddenly Honeysetts motion tracker interrupted that silence, followed shortly by a possible contact report from Morse.

"Ok platoon hold position. Sgt. Honeysett I want your squad to fallback and investigate the possible contact, Sgt Pitt keep your squad watching the front".

"Roger that O'brien, just keep monitoring the frequency for now. If we need to send a SITREP we're give the pulse communicator a go".

Obi took up a position against the rock wall, facing the back towards' Morses' position where a possible contact had been reported. Hugging the tunnel way, Obi tried to make himself as small as possible to maximise the cover available while still being able to procide effective return fire.

"Wilco Staff." Yeah, not much of a chance with that either. Obi said as peered back up the mine towards SGT Honeysett squad.

The motion tracker’s blip had the good corporal on edge, setting her up for the long, languid, internal violin draw that ended with Morse’s sudden vocal outburst. Her heart jumped against her chest almost instantly and spurred her body forward. Her mouth opened to speak unsuccessfully once before any words managed to fall out, but her body, without fail, jolted into a responsive firing stance to the direction in question.

“Jesus…! You’re gonna give me a heart attack over’ere Morse. The hell did you see?”

Valentine questioned him silently, pausing her words in order to lend the majority of her ear to the environment, but mostly towards the sergeant’s motion tracker. Hearing Simovic’s command, she steadied her boots and approached the back of the bus where Morse stood still. Extending one hand, she silently pressed it to the back of his shoulder to signify that she was at his back when they started to progress forward to investigate. For the moment however, she was content to scan the corridor from which they came with her eyes peeled, the light from her shoulder lamp revealing the dancing whites within the atmosphere, but little else. To be frank, she wished it to stay that way.

Morse heard the order to fall back and investigate, and he wasn't very big on the idea. But he got over the idea quickly, as it meant he didn't have to keep wondering deeper into the dark.

"Give you a heart attack? Shit I done can't even figure what it was." He rasped out, still trying to figure what it was that he saw. Someone else must have seen something, or maybe the tracker caught something, otherwise the sergeant wouldn't have moved them back.

Morse kept the M41A-E2 forward and ready. He wasn't sure what he saw, but he'd come to the conclusion if he saw something move again he was going to shoot it. If anything the light from the muzzle would light up the room a bit better.

Alan cautiously followed Honeysett panning the rifle in the dark. He felt somthing odd about this and his hair was standing on end.

Alan muttered "Somthing is wrong, this just isn't right."

He started to wonder who would make it out, and who might not.
Pvt. Alan Shepard

His world was a wash of muted colours, dark blues and black. No heat anywhere. He knew the bugs didn't give off a heat signature, so he switched the implants that had replaced his eye to night vision, and was rewarded as a sea of green swept over his vision, revealing the otherwise dark tunnel. He didn't have a lamp mounted on his armour like a lot of the other troops, having learned that giving away his position was a quick ticket to a shallow grave. Even though he was a Smartgunner, he believed in the virtues of stealth and subtlety. He had, after all, been an Aerospace Corps officer prior to being a Marine...and a survivor in the period between.

He concentrated on slowing his heartbeat so that it beat in time with the muted pulse of the motion tracker that was hooked up to his Head Mounted Sight, knowing that he needed to be calm and collected if he had a chance - he would save his adrenaline for later, for when he really needed it. For now, Sam Dunn was concentrating on the area in front of him. More importantly, on making sure that no enemy managed to evade his detection. Merc or Bug, both knew the terrain and were bound to be stealthy.

When he heard Morse mutter behind him, he kept his eyes forward. Of course he did - he wasn't going to take his eyes off of his designated area of responsibility for a damn second. One second, that was all it took. When he was ordered to halt, he immediately dropped down to one knee and took up a good firing position, minimizing his target profile and making sure that his weapon swept the area in front of him - he didn't want to miss a damn thing.

He bit back a sigh as 1st Squad was told to pull back and investigate. Great - they had only just arrived and already they were being split up. He didn't know which enemy they were dealing with, but they had already achieved a significant advantage. A USCM section is a lot tougher than two separate squads. Keeping his eyes forward, he decided to voice his concerns.

"They're fuckin' with us. Make us jump at shadows, split us apart so they can ambush us peicemeal."

He was no USCM officer, but he wasn't dumb - he could tell what was happening here, and he didn't like it one damn bit. He kept his eyes the hell in his area, and hoped that as the others in his squad conversed and strategicized, they'd do the same. If he died because someone watching his back fucked up, he was going to take 'em with him.

"Just like on Acid Reign. Damnit, five minutes on the ground and it's all happening again! He growled under his breath, determined that he wasn't going to fall for the same damn trick twice.
