April 2, 2180; Secret Bio-Cyte/Insurrectionist Lab, Daedalus City, Planet Icarus

Detached Squad

Corporal Casey Valentine led her 4 man Squad down the shelled out street, quickly and quietly; moving to back up the 'special mission' marines hitting the old warehouse on the other side of town. Though she was unaware of exactly what the purpose of thier mission was; she knew her old Company commander; Captain Ramirez was leading it; so it must be something REALLY important...

Her platoon leader, 1st LT Johnson; had ordered her to take her squad and see if they needed any help getting in and out. So that's what she was doing. She kept her M39 SMG out and at the ready and moved efficently down the streets; using any blown-out rubble, building corners or anything else for cover along the way. She knew that the rebels could be anywhere and that her people could come under fire at any moment. She checked on her men and saw that PVT Lonebear was covering her with his Pulse Rifle and keeping up nicely. PVTs Winters and Betts were likewise doing a good job of keeping each other covered. Suddenly, Betts stopped and was looking up with his scoped M42 Rifle pointed at the roof of a nearby building.

"Hey Corp; I've got a pair of insurrectionists on the top of this building pointing a hunting rifle and a rocket launcher at a building across the street from them", reported Winters. Casey quickly looked up and saw that the rebels were facing a building away from her squad's current position; which meant that she and her people had the drop on these rebels...

Support Team; i.e. Shepard and Quinn

Quinn had gathered up his helmet and belly crawled out of the room just as the loud whoosh and thunderous explosion of a rocket once again assaulted his ringing ears. He could feel the heat from the blast emanate from the room he had just occupied; but it was nowhere near as bad as the first rocket attack. Looking around, he saw that he was in a hallway with a crumbling set of stairs leading down...

<Tag Quinn>

Shepard viewed the rebel group attacking 1st Squad's position from the scope of his M42 and saw one of the insurrectionists dragging a wounded companion away from the fighting. He briefly considered engaing; but shifted his aim back to the 5 rebels pouring fire at Simovic and the others. He witnessed Simovic, O'brien and Brown pull back inside the building and took advantage of the opportunity when the insurrectionists rushed the building. Pulling the trigger twice; he put a pair of shots into the center of a man's back and watched him drop heavily to the ground. A feral grin of satisfaction pulled his lips back and he spoke into the comm on the squad frequency; "This is SG3 Alpha; another Rebel is down for the count; that leaves 4, repeat 4, at the front entrance-"; the message was cut short as Shepard suddenly felt a sledgehammer hit him in the side of the head and he found himself on the ground, his rifle still in his hands but his helmet in the corner; with a deep dimple in the side of it. His head was pounding in pain and he suddenly realized that the rebel sniper with the hunting rifle on the rooftop across the way with the rocket-wielding insurrectionist must have tagged him and it was a lucky break that his helmet had saved him...

Simovic did what he could to rig a quick sling for Gaz Brown's arm while O'brien sealed the door with his Portable Welder. Brown was still wincing in pain, but he was doing his best to grit his teeth and keep it together. He pulled out his pistol and disengaged the safety and racked the slide to chamber a round; showing Simovic that he was still capable of fighting to suport his fellow marines.

O'brien finished up sealing the door when Alexander's message came through; reporting that another insurrectionist had been taken out and that there were only 4 at the entrance and then the message was abruptly cut off...

2nd Squad

Ramirez took grim stock of the situation around him as he looked around the hallway and took stock of those around him. Khan was barely breathing hard and looked as cool and calm as ever. Kurosaki looked angry at the loss of Patch and concerned over the unconscious Lionmane. Morse looked like the adrenaline was still spiking and he was looking to enact some vengeance. Nodding his head, the scarred Captain came to a decision...

Turning to Kurosaki, he said; "Sergeant, I need you to guard these men while we complete the mission", nodding his head towards Patch's body and Lionmane's unconscious form. Ichigo looked like he was about to argue; then took a deep breath and replied; "Roger that, sir." Ramirez clapped him on the shoulder and then turned to Morse; "Allright Marine; I'm gonna need you to back me up with that thing", nodding towards Morse's M41E2, "and be ready to shoot any alien bastard to hell and gone if they've hatched." Morse's heavily accented reply was quick and strongly affirmative; "Aye, aye, Cap'n." Nodding to him, he turned to tell Khan to get to work on the door lock; but she was allready ahead of him. A few moments later, her bypass tool worked its magic and the door slid open...

APC crew: i.e. SGT Pitt

SGT Dirk Pitt ws monitoring his video screens as PFC Han slid the APC behind the massive corpse of the Harvester to use as a protection from any follow up rocket attacks from the rebelon the rooftop. Unable to get a good angle to fire on the rooftop; Dirk suddenly saw that a comm line from one of the nearby marine units was flashing. Switching over, he answered the message and recieved the news that a First Lieutenant Johnson had detached a squad of marines to come to the support of Captain Ramirez's special mission squad and that they were now to be considered at the special mission force's disposal for any help they may need. Johnson expalined that he had tried to reach Captain Ramirez himself; but was unable to get through...

Casim stopped and looked up. His knees were bent there as he had taken a quick crouch from the staggered ranger file his squad had been taken through the city. He turned to the rear and brought his hand up. With a repetitive action, his hand made a slow, but smooth, motion back and forth as if slicing his neck with his fingers. It was him signaling a Danger Zone up ahead to his fellow Marines. That Danger Zone was a street crossing, a perfect area for any enemy to ambush a small unit, such as his, from down the street.

After the Marine marksman gave off the signal, he turned back to the way that they had been heading. He posted his body arms distance from the corner of the building and breathed for a few quick seconds. He boots slid then as they pushed their way from the pavement of the street so that his body would turn with the corner. In a quick moment, his rifle was up and his eyes were looking over his sights down the street as he held security.

“Clear!” Casim said sternly to the squad as he waited for them to cross as he held a watchful eye.

It had been a process that had been going on all day as the squad made its way through the city.

In all honesty, this was nothing, but what he had learned from training. This was Casim’s first deployment in any hot zone. It was only a few months ago that his nicely furnished boots had even stepped into the Fleet Marine Force. A few months before that was nothing, but the School of Infantry. Before that was Boot Camp. Before that, he was nothing more, but a civilian working as some mechanic for minimum wage in some garage. There was absolutely nothing up until the moment he had stepped onto that shuttle and was on his way to becoming the Marine that he was that day.

Casim turned to his side looking to his buddy, Dirk, or better known to anybody else in the unit, Private Betts. Security was being held by the Marine from across the street, so that Casim could make his own way across being protected. It was no time at all he made his bolt across the exposed end of the street and back into the patrol with the squad.

As soon as Casim had made his way to the building corner and pass Dirk, his buddy made a motion upward. He turned to examine what his friend had seen. It was two unidentified figures who were facing away from their location.

“Corporal…” Casim said with his Cajun influenced accent.

The Private’s rifle raised quickly as adrenaline was starting to pump its way through his veins. His legs had seemed to become weightless and nonexistent as the chemical was taking affect. Then his stomach had no feeling at all. It felt as if there was some sort of empty cavity there within his abdomen as he looked vigilantly through his scope at the figures.

The feeling snapped suddenly when he saw exactly what he was staring at with a rush of heat to his head and a blanket of coldness that consumed the rest of his body…

“Contact right.”

Alert and direction…

“Two Tango’s, rifle and RPG. 100 yards.”

Description and range…

“I have eyes on.”

Assignment and control…

Casim held his aim at the two targets as he spoke out his ADDRAC report to his Squad Leader. The Private took in deep, slow breaths while trying to retrace every simulation of training he had ever gone through trying to compare it to this particular one. Escalation of Force and the ADDRAC was all that kept repeating. There was nothing else he could do, however. There was no simulation to prepare him for this. This was it, this was the shit.

“Requesting permission to fire, Corporal.” Casim said softly as he sighted in on the enemy with the rifle knowing that he was the one with the highest threat for return fire.

"Damn" Dirk muttered to himself as he tried to get an angle on the rooftop.

Sliding from targeting system to targeting system he got the same answer each time. If he was going to be able to hit them then they would be able to hit him. Not that he really cared. He liked a stand up fight to sitting around and watching any day.

Dirk checked Captain Ramirez's monitor and location to insure that all was well.

"All squads this is Pitt.. The APC is ready for fire support. Call out coordinates for any targets." He said.

Quinn rapidly descended the stairs and heard the transmission from Dirk inside Ironsides. He stopped and crouched, keeping out of sight of the RPG and sniper on the opposite roof. He pulled a map out of one of his pockets, laminated in plastic with grid designations.

<Detached Squad>

Though scorned about being kept in the dark about the specifics of the Captain's assignment and just what she and her squad were getting themselves into, she knew everything that she needed to about her current objective as per usual to the corps. Casim Winter's report of the insurgents gave pause to their advance through the shoddy streets and evoked the corporal to take a knee behind some adjacent rubble where she could better assess their options. The initial thought to sneak past the watchmen came to mind, though with the objective being time sensitive she thought it best to neutralize the sentries.
It would appear that private Winters agreed with her assessment, that or it could've been a case of classic gung ho marine syndrome though it really didn't matter either way. Valentine was going to give the private permission and that was that. Turning to face the others she halted their advance via signal and with a nod and point to the roof, verbally commanded her squad into action.

"Betts, Winter, bag those guys. Lonebear, watch our six."

She cleared the orders and took a field of fire down the street ahead incase others were to come to assist the pair upon the roof. Looking down range past the sights of her M39, she couldn't shake the feeling that things were going to get worse before they got better but then that was the corps, SNAFU.

Smovic quickly improvised a sling for Brown's arm using his equipment harness, he'd get Morse to do First Aid on him when they linked up with 2nd Squad.

Just then Simovic heard the comms message from Shepard he instantly realised something was wrong, so he clicked his comms over to 1st Squads frequency, as Quinn was still technically part of 1st squad.

"SG 1 Bravo this is SG 1 Alpha, can you get eyes on SG 3 Bravo, I think he maybe in trouble, over".

He then motioned for O'Brian to take point and move out down the corridor.

As he did he selected 2nd Squads comm channel.

Morse considered his situation. He was at the moment wishing he'd been with the APC crew. He'd done that before, and that always worked out fine. The APC was big, intimidating, strong, and safe. He'd have killed to be sitting in it right now. Instead he was in some kind of compound, in a squad that was down two men.

He had a look on his face that looked stressed, and there was no reason he shouldn't. But apparently that may have signed him up for what he considered to be the worst suicide job he'd have ever had. But there was no way to get out of it at that point.

He moved up to the door, lifting the strap of the of the M41A-E2 over his shoulder, then holding the weapon up, preparing to change the clip. He heard Smovic over the com, and he figured he was in as good as a position as any to answer it.

"Street Gang one, this is SG 2 Bravo. I'm movin' up with Streetgang Six actual to complete the mission. SG 2 Alpha will be here to meet you with the downs when you arrive, over." He said, then taking his finger away from the mic.

< Tag Smovic

His tone was stressed, but not so much panicked. Lifted the M41A-E2, he switched out the half clip with a full one. Then brought the weapon to bare.

"Shit, if the grasshopers from hell are hoppin' around like new borne chiggers, shit. I'm up for keepin' our record in tact and not completin' the mission sir. But, Hell, only one way to things right, right." He said, his heavy southern accent peaking through with his analogies, with his smug sarcastic tone came through. He had a bad habit of speaking his mind, and one day he'd be passed up for promotion for it. But oh well, there was a good chance that might not matter in a few minutes.

Inhale…

Casim heard the order from his Squad Leader come from behind him as he was still sighted in on the two enemy personnel that were occupying the rooftop. The order was simple; he was to take the shot. Something that seemed to be hard to think about when all of the communication traffic from the other units was running through the air. It all went silent then as Casim’s hand slid up to turn his communications off.

Exhale…

The first shot was fired, and after a quick breath, a second shot was fired into the center mass of the insurrectionist with the rifle. With no thought into the matter, Casim continued on with his Box Drill as the barrel of his rifle shifted into the direction of the second target.

Inhale…

Exhale…

Two more shots were then fired just like the first two. Both of them were directed into the center mass of the insurrectionist after a quick breath was taken. His rifle then made its way back to the first target. He rested his crosshairs there to see any extra movement. He then shifted back to the second target examining that area in the same fashion. If there was going to be any, he would finish the Box Drill and give a single well placed shot for each target.

“You got anything, Betts?” Casim asked as he tried to keep his mind off of what had just happened.

“I’ve got nothing, Corporal.” Casim said then while he continued to examine the rooftop.

Dirk's hands flew over the keys as he fed the coordinates into the APC's computer. The firing solution came back with what he expected. In his position he couldn't fire on their rooftop position. The only problem was that if he could hit them, they could hit him. The choice was clear.

"OK, Han. Let's get this thing off the sidelines and into the fight. Move out!" He yelled to PFC Han.

Han pushed the throttle forward and the APC lurched into motion. Dirk smiled at the thought of getting into the fight. As they left the safety of the harvester's carcass rounds started to slam into the armored skin of the APC. Once the APC reached the firing position Dirk switched to the tac net.

Shutting down the welder, Obi slide it back into its webbing pouch. Giving the now sealed door a final thump with his left hand, he turned and gave SSGT Simovic a thumps up to indicate that the task was complete. The whole time Obi was sealing the door he was half listening to the radio traffic passing over the net. Sounds like this mission is turning to custard real quick. Obi mused to himself as the SSGT Simovic spoke into his headset again. Well 2nd Squad here we come. Obi thought as he adjusted Browns' M-41 on its sling so it wouldn't interfer with his own weapon.
He then motioned for O'Brian to take point and move out down the corridor.
Satisfied that he was ready to move, Obi looked up to see that the Staff had finished giving his orders and was indicating to Obi to move out.

Nodding at the unspoken order, Obi brought his rifle up and headed down the corridor leading 1st Squad to the R.V. with 2nd Squad.

PVT Winters raised his M42 Scoped Rifle to his shoulder, took careful aim, and fired a pair of 10mm rounds at both the Insurrectionist with the hunting rifle in his hands and the one with the Rocket Launcher. The first pair of shots flew into the back of the man with the rifle and the powerful rounds smashed the man forward and down, causing him to fall out of sight, presumably onto the floor of the roof of the building he was standing on.

The man with the rocket launcher however, had shifted just as Winters started firing and when the marksman moved his rifle over and fired at him; he had ducked out of sight. Corporal Valentine heard Casim’s Cajun-accented curses and glanced up at the roof top and couldn’t see either insurrectionist who had been visible a moment ago. Keeping her eyes on the rooftop, she directed Betts, Winters and Lonebear to keep moving and stick to cover. A moment later, the deafening sound of mortar rounds exploding on the top level and roof of the building where the insurrectionists were echoed throughout the city streets. Rubble began raining down onto the streets…

Quinn called out the coordinates to SGT Pitt and a few moments later was rewarded with the sound of mortar rounds being fired from the APC and then the sounds of explosions and masonry falling to the shelled out pavement reached his ears. He wasn’t sure, but he also thought perhaps he heard the sound of a rocket being fired...

<Tag Quinn>

Shepard held his throbbing head in his hands and after a few moments, a lot of the pain subsided. His ears were still ringing and he shakily proceeded to crawl out of the room, picking up his dented helmet as he went. He flinched when he heard the sounds of explosions coming from across the street; but relaxed when he recognized the sound of USCM mortar rounds hitting their target…

CPL O’brien led 1st Squad down the hallways of the converted warehouse towards Kurosaki’s position; keeping his senses alert and his Pulse Rifle at the ready. Behind him; PVT Brown gritted his teeth at the pain his arm, but stayed silent and kept his VP 70 pistol in a tight grip. SSGT Simovic brought up the rear; his veteran instincts ensuring that no-one or no-thing was going to catch them unaware.

O’brien soon saw the obvious signs of a firefight, with several insurrectionist bodies torn apart by gunfire and numerous bullet and shell holes in the walls nearby. Calling out quietly with his rifle at the ready, O’brien hissed; “Kurosaki?”; to be answered by a weary voice hissing back; “Yeah O’brien, it’s me.” Recognizing the voice, O’brien turned the corner and took in the sight of SGT Kurosaki guarding the body of Patch and the unconscious form of Lionmane…

Morse followed Captain Ramirez and Khan into a long hallway that was revealed by the Corporate ‘Troubleshooter’ electronic lock-picking. The hallway led straight back and then angled sharply to the left. Morse could immediately smell the bizarre scent of a chemical fire and water and could hear the distinct sound of fire-alarm sprinklers showering the room around the corner.

Khan, in the lead moved quickly down the corridor and risked a quick glance around. She pulled her head back again and said; “Doctor Voss is in the room with a pistol in his hand and he’s burning a bunch of papers and electronic equipment in a trash can with some kind of chemical flammable. The fire sprinklers are on; so most of the room is wet.” As she was talking, she engaged the safety of her SMG and slung in over her shoulder and secured it. She then opened the flap to her pistol holster and pulled out a dart gun and loaded it with a tranquilizer. Looking up at Ramirez, she said; “I don’t know how much, if any information is left unburned; but I can definitely take the good Doctor down with this.” Ramirez looked at her with a frown on his scarred face; and then nodded; “Do it”.

Khan turned the corner and took careful aim; Doctor Wilhelm Voss looked up with wild eyes, raised his pistol and said in a heavily accented German accent; “No! You will not get anything…,” he was cut off by Khan’s dart fired into his neck. He took a lumbering step back and then crashed forward onto the ground.

The lab was a haphazard arrangement of desks, chemicals, electronic equipment (some of which still spitting out sparks); a tall trash can full of burned papers and electronic disks and two sealed off areas. The first area was about 5 feet by 5 feet in size and held the ovoid shape of a xenomorph egg, with the tops peeled back and it was empty; clearly showing that the alien had already hatched from it. There was also an impression in the foamy layer the egg was sitting on that there had once been a second egg that lay right next to it. Of this egg, there was no sign.

The other sealed off area was much bigger; perhaps 20 by 20 feet in size; and the remains of a young man with a gaping hole in his chest lay against one of the glass walls. Khan let out a soft gasp of recognition; “That’s Jaime Parker; our insider!” As she moved close to the wall, there was a sudden movement from the shadowy corner of sealed off room; and a young xenomorph, perhaps 4 feet in size, hurled itself against the glass next to Khan’s head. The glass cracked, but held and Khan fell back with a startled scream of fear and surprise…

APC crew: i.e. SGT Pitt

SGT Dirk Pitt watched as his fired mortar rounds fell on and around the rooftop where the insurrectionists had stood and was confident that neither could have survived the explosions. There was suddenly the bizarre sound of a rocket being muffled by something soft and absorbing and suddenly gore from the huge harvester corpse was raining down onto the APC and the street around the marine vehicle on Dirk’s camera screens. PFC Han suddenly called out; “Oh, that’s just f-ing sick man!”

Pitt rewound some camera footage and discovered what had happened; the insurrectionist had got off one last shot with his Rocket Launcher and had put a missile right into the Harvester’s body…

Morse had followed Ramirez and Khan around the corner and into the room. Morse did remain at the rear of the small group moving forward, but kept his weapon forward, as the only way to their rear had a group of marines guarding it. They’d know before hand if anything was coming as they’d here the firing. So he kept the weapon trained forward as they progressed through the hallway.

When they’d decided to come around the corner at “Doctor Voss” as they’d called him, Morse wasn’t too happy with the fact that he was tranquilized. That meant that they were going to have to drag him out, and he was already carrying more then his body told him he should be. He’d considered dropping the Med-kit a few times. He wasn’t exactly the first medic of choice half the time, but he was the support here, so he’d keep it.

It was only when he saw the dead man in the glass room across from them that he knew he really didn’t want to be in there. It made almost no difference to him who this guy was because all he noticed was the large hole in his chest.

Morse had seen that before, he’d stuck his hand inside that kind of wound, and he’d seen what came out of wounds like that. His eyes got very wide as he started pan around, looking for where ever the little thing which had shot out of his chest had gone. He stayed close to the group though, as they moved closer to the large ceiled container.

”Oh shit.” he muttered to himself as he was seeing no sign of the thing itself which must be around somewhere. He hadn’t noticed Khan getting up close to the glass, and then he heard a loud, sudden, blunt thud against it, with a slight cracking sound.

It was there Morse saw the disgusting horrific image of one of those xenomorphs, the ones he’d seen only a few times before, and the very thing he’d hoped he wouldn’t see here. He stumbled back a bit when the sound had happened, and he saw the creature. But he was going to take any advantage he could get, and from what he could see this thing was trapped inside the glass room. That was good enough for him.

”Fuck you, cricket.” He yelled as he brought the M41A-E2 in his hands to a good firing position and proceeded to pull the trigger repeatedly, emptying as many of the 5 round bursts at the thing as he could.

< Tag 2nd squad and roll multiple burst.

"The hell?"

*Glancing up past the lip of her helmet when she heard the altercation, she saw nothing, but knew that something had gone horribly wrong with the sentries above. Thoughts of how they could have possibly screwed that up fluttered past her mind, but she willed the blame game aside and threw her hand forward as she verbally wrangled her team.*

"Forward! Get out of dodge marines! Double time it and Stick to cover..!"

*She called out to them, hoping to spur them on even as she moved on up in example to her squad. No sooner than when they started pushing forward, Valentine's ears rang and body quaked in the reveling shock and awe of the mortars reigning death and destruction from above.*

"Go baby go."

*She spoke clearly, but almost especially for herself given the volume of the chaos and turmoil amidst her squad as she slammed foot for foot down the street. Despite her squad's distance from the destruction, the sheer devastation made the threat as real as if it were over their heads. The hellish whistles of chipped metal, stone, and mortar vaulting past in a spray of fizzling smoke and flame caused the corporal to shield her face as she pushed forward past the collapsing substructures and tumbling walls of the building at the opposing side of the street. Hurdling over a waist-high barrier wall of rubble, she slammed her back against it on the inside angle for cover from the debris, any other artillery shelling, and gave glimpse back to her team. Her hand flagging them forward and out of the kill-zone of the artillery shells. She readied her firearm to her chest with her hands, squeezing it against her combat fitting tight enough to feel her beating heart. The organ's rapid, adrenaline coerced flutters causing the her chest to strum repetitively against the corporal's body armor.*

*Taking a moment's pause to collect her breath and actually admire the wreckage, she let a giddy little exhale free from her narrow lips and pushed the helmet tight to the crown of her head as she spoke via com link*

"India-Actual, this is Kilo-Two Alpha, be advised there -are- friendlies in this region.. Looks like you got what you were aiming for though, over."

*That was the understatement of the night, she declared introspectively as her eyes reflected back the dust and debris the prior action.*

Dirk watched as the roof came apart under the withering fire of the APC's mortars. As he finished the first salvo he started to order the APC foe a second. Then the word came over the tac net.

"Kilo-Two Alpha, India-Actual, Roger that. Holding fire. Keep your heads down out there" He said as he lit a cigarette with shaky hands..

"Friendlies" He muttered
