Turning to Obi and Dugan, he replied; "It's good to see you men. It looks like one of the scientists bolted out of here with an egg and most of the computer records have been burned to a crisp. The good news though, is that Khan here managed to tranq the scientist who was here; so we'll just have to find out everything from him. For now, I say we get the hell outta dodge as fast as we can."
"It is just peachy to see you to Sir, how do we know that scientist has not got one of those things inside him??" Obi asked as he gestured to the unconscious form of the scientist with the business end of his rifle.

Casey nodded and gestured her squad to comply.
After making sure that Betts' body was properly seen to, Lone Bear piled into the APC. Like most it smelled like a moist gym sock, with the added odors of flame and chemical fire retardant on top. He found a place in one of the jump seats and waited for the bulky machine to get moving.

"Good shooting Marines.."

*Corporal Valentine gave the scene a once over in finality as she stood at the APC until the rest of her team loaded up. She gave a silent nod to Betts then, though she hardly knew the man, she could only figure that he didn't deserve to check out like that. Giving a glance over at the Sergeant, she lowered her head and climbed into the vehicle along side the other Detached members. With a sigh of relief, she shifted her helmet from the crown of her head into the palms of her hands where she rotated it until a single white heart and piercing arrow faced upwards. As if some alleviating device, she gyrated the bare ball of her right thumb across the art briefly before tilting the helmet back onto her head.*

"Where to now Sergeant?"

Morse moved around the computer terminals a bit, kicking over some of the trash that was lying around. This place was a total mess, of course he’d helped contribute a bit to it. There weren’t broken shards of glass on the ground before he arrived. So all those who were wearing flip flops should beware. He stopped leaning against one of the computer terminals near the group waiting for the instructions. He liked hearing that his idea to get out of there seemed to be coming together, but as long as they were still inside the building he wasn’t going to feel remotely safe.

He heard O’Brien speak up with a question. Morse didn’t take it as something that was a particularly stupid question, but he knew the answer none the less.

”We don’t, at there’s the beauty a bein in the corps. Walkin in with half the intel you need and hopin’ fer the best.” Morse said, very sarcastically. His opinion of the Corps was well known to the others who’d been in the platoon for a while.

< Tag Obi

Morse didn’t particularly like going out on operations. He liked the hazard pay they got, as well as the benefits, but that was about it. As far as he was concerned they could spend all their time on a cruiser, or at Gateway doing nothing.

He was settling out a little bit, but he was still a bit on edge. So his sardonic tone was going to be tearing through all of his words. ”Sir, I gotta piss. And I don’t wanna do it around here with the creepy freakies out n’ about.”

< Tag Ramirez

He was lying, all he was really saying was he wanted to get out of the building as fast as possible.

Obi smiled as Morse answered his question, voice dripping with sarcasm. "Nothing like a bit of mystery to add a spice to life. I think we should just slot the fucker and get the hell out of dodge." Obis' voiced trailed off, as he watched the Captain pick up the scientist in question and throw him over his shoulder and move out. The marines followed the Captain down the passageway and headed back RV with SGT Kurosaki. Ramirez took charge and got the marines to move out. Obi moved over to where his wounded squad mate was sitting propped up against the wall.

"Hey fuck face, how are you feeling? Good news Brownie, we are finally getting out of this hole and getting ship side!" Obi asked with a grin. Gently putting his arm around the marine, Obi helped the wounded man to his feet.

Shepard took a chance and took a quick look towards the insurrectionists position at the front of the BioCyte building. He saw one of the rebels dragging a wounded man towards some cover and the bodies of two more who had obviously been shredded by his grenade. He raised his weapon to his shoulder and put a couple of well-aimed shots into the man on his feet, who fell to the ground in a boneless heap; causing the wounded man he was draggin to writhe in agony. Quinn looked up as well and saw that the entranceway to the building was currently clear of opposition...

1st & 2nd Squad

Simovic in the meantime got on the horn to the marines outside and called for an update; he found out that the insurrectionists at the entrance-way had been cleared out and that the Detached squad sent to reinforce them had made contact with Pitt and the APC...

<Tag First and Second Squad>
"One-Actual, Bravo. Front walkway has been cleared for the moment. We'll cover your path to the APC and close the door behind you."

What Quinn was referring to was that he and Shepard would act as the rearguard of the column, providing covering fire to allow the main column to beat feet to the APC, hence "closing the door".

Quinn popped up and fired a grenade into the packed group of rebels, not staying up any longer than to aim in the best general direction. He had plenty of grenades to fire, and by his remembered count, still had one left in the tube.

April 2, 2180; Secret Bio-Cyte/Insurrectionist Lab, Daedalus City, Planet Icarus

Support Team; i.e. Shepard and Quinn

PVT Shepard started to tell CPL Quinn that the insurrectionists in front of the Biocyte building had been taken care of when Quinn rose up, took quick aim and launched a 30mm grenade. Shepard ducked down and both marines cold hear the explosion a split second later. With a wry grin, Shepard said; "I think you got 'em", and used the scoped rifle to check the position previously held by the rebels. Sure enough; the badly wounded man who had been the last of the insurrectionists was now torn to pieces and nothing stirred on the streets.

A few moments later, the sealed door to the building opened up and the battered members of 1st and 2nd Squads came out the door and double timed it to the APC. Quinn and Shepard covered them from their elevated position and then lef the building in a hurry and jumped in the jam packed military vehicle...

<Tag Quinn & Shepard>

Detached Squad and APC crew

SGT Pitt had PFC Han move the APC out into the open, and right to the edge of the bad shell-hold that signified the closest the vehicle could get to the Biocyte building. Pitt watched thru the gun camera as the members of 1st and 2nd Squad came out of the door and double-timed it towards his position. His smile turned into a grim line when he saw that several bodies were being carried over the shoulders of other marines. Calling over to Lonebear and Casey he said; "Get the door open in a moment, we got friendlies coming in!"; while they did that, he got on the comms and overheard Ramirez signal for Quinn and Shepard to come down and join them and then call out to Hanson and Alante to bring down the Dropship and pick them up at the rendezvous site.

The APC quickly grew crowded and foul-smelling as the marines and casualites of 1st and 2nd Squad boarded the vehicle. The unconscious prisoner was dumped unceremoniously into a seat and secured to the safety bar with zip-ties. The atmosphere in the cramped spaces was one of grim tiredness, with some anger and sadness over the loss of fellow marines and a few muted greetins were exchanged between the 'new' marines of the Detached Squad and the others...

<Tag Everyone>

1st & 2nd Squad

SSGT Smiovic got the 'all clear' message from Shepard and started on cutting down the sealed door to the outside of the Biocyte building when a loud boom resonated right outside the doorway. Simovic called in quickly to get an update and a somewhat sheepish sounding Quinn told him that they were "definitely" all-clear now and that he and Shepard would cover thier withdrawal to the APC.

A few moments later, the door was cut down, the marines quickly and warily made thier way to the APC and got on-board. Ramirez was the last one in and called for Hanson and Alante to come and pick them up at the rendezvous point.

A long few minutes passed as the vehicle made its way to the pick-up site and the distinctive sound of a UD 4 Dropship's engines could be heard as Hanson and Alante touched down with the engines on; the APC rolled on board and then the ramp lifted up and the Dropship rocketed up into the skies; heading for the main USCM base; "Camp Castle", located a dozen miles from Daedalus Colony, in a rocky range of hills in an excellent defensive position.

The Dropship touched down; the marines were greeted by a full group of medical staff and thier dead and injured were quickly seen too; while the rest were shown to some comfortable quarters to get some much needed rest. CAPT Ramirez, SSGT Simovic, Ms. Khan and thier captive were taken to see Major Bain; the C.O. of the 2nd Battalion and heading this sector of the "war" against the Insurrectionists and were also introduced to a USCM Intel officer; one CAPT T. Ryan and another Coporate type; Mr. O. Black. They took custody of the prisoner and told Ramirez and Simovic to get some rest and then to meet them tommorw at 1400 for further orders. Khan smiled at Ramirez and Simovic and told them it had a been a pleasure working with them and then made her way to some quarters set aside for the few 'guests' the USCM recieved at the base...

Mission 2 to start soon!

With his arm around the semi conscious Brown, Obi half carried, half dragged the wounded man towards the APC with the remainder of 1st and 2nd squads. The troop door slide open and welcoming arms reached out to help lift the wounded marine gently into the APC. Obi followed and moved out of the way, stowed his rifle in the secure rack and slumped down into a jump sheet. Removing his helmet he held it in his hands as he leaned back and closed his eyes and quickly drifted off to sleep...

A loud thump of the Dropship touching down and the sound of the APCs' engine being gunned jostled Obi awake. Wiping his eyes and mouth, the APC drove a short distance before coming to a halt. The troop door slide open and wounded marines were passed out first. Once they were all clear and in the hands of the medics, Obi placed his helmet on his head, slung his rifle and stepped out of the APC. Obi took in the USCM Base, a very drab affair, functional. He noticed that the Captain moved off towards the H.Q. with SSGT Simovic, the Company Rep and the dazed drugged out scientist in tow. The roar of the Dropships engines suddenly died as the flight crew shut it them down, leaving a still silence in the air. The sweet smell of cooking assualted his senses and his stomach rumbled. Fuck, how long has it been since I had food, shower can wait i'm starving. Obi thought to himself as his body started moving.

"I'm going to grab something to eat lads, if any one wants to come along?" Obi called out as he headed off warily in the direction of the mess.

Helmet in hand, Casey piled out of the APC along with the rest of the squad, unsheathed her gloved hands and wadded them up into the bucket of her helmet which she pinned between her wrist and the bow of her hip. For the moment, she was more curious as to what her orders were to be as well as the rest of detached. They weren't exactly initially part of this outfit and that made her wonder if she was to be reassigned to it, or shipped back planet side to her lieutenant. Either way, it was definitely out of her hands and though she didn't respond at first, she made her way in tow behind Obi after making sure that private Betts was seen to honorably.

"Hey.. wait up... Mate."

She threw in playfully, having noticed Obi's accent. With so much on mind she could only hope that the 'wonderously fantastic' Dfac food would steal her attention and otherwise bitching from the lag of their previous assignment.

Quinn stood in the APC, as all the seats were taken up. He tended to the wounded as best he was able in the rocking vehicle. His face shone with sweat and his hands seemed to dance as he dispensed medication, pressed field dressings onto bleeding wounds and removed bullets. It was obvious to anyone looking that he was one of the best medics in the Corps.

But not even the best medic in the Corps can bring one back from death.

Twenty minutes later, the vehicle rolled into the Marine firebase. Sixtus helped the wounded out of the vehicle, followed by the dead. They'd gotten off lucky, only two of their members dying; plus one from the newly arrived detached squad. Sixtus tried to follow the flow of wounded into the medical tents, but was barred by several of them. They were saying that he'd contaminate the disinfected area, and Sixtus bellowed at them in return that these were his men and he was their primary medic. He was refused once more.

Sitting down near the body of Patch, Quinn pulled out his canteen and took a swig. He looked down at the wrapped form.

"What fucked up world we live in, eh?" he asked the body, pouring some of the water onto it, and taking another swig. He leaned so that he was resting on his arms.

"Now I'm the smartest one in the platoon again. Thanks asshole." Sixtus swore at Patch, and looked at him again. "Requiesicat en pace, amigo."

Sixtus then stood and joined the shambling line heading for the mess hall. He was suddenly weary as the adrenaline left his system.

(OOC: I made a very minor edit; there were actually 3 total KIA: Alexander, Patch & Betts; Betts and Alexander probably didn't register as thier players never so much as made a single in-game post).

Morse stepped off of the APC and into ‘Camp Castle’. This wasn’t exactly what he had expected. Typically they wait into orbit after a job was done, and sat on the ship while waiting for their assorted times to fit into cryo. But if there was one benefit to having a ground emplacement, it’s that certain things were just better, namely the food. Not the Morse had ever given a shit about the quality of the food. He had learned to enjoy the pasty imitations. What he wasn’t the biggest fan of was sharing the facilities with the multitude, which were undoubtedly the current occupants of this camp. However this was one thing he had no say in, so he didn’t care.

He heard Obi’s accent of the island of prisoners, and he snatched up all the words immediately. He hadn’t eaten much before they left for the mission, but what he wanted more was a drink. That could be dealt momentarily.

”Oh fuck ya.” Morse said in a somewhat exasperated sense. With his M41A-E2 stored away on the APC with the rest of his heavy combat gear, he was free to move finally, and that felt good. ”Maybe they’re up’n stuffin’ free desert fer birthdays.” Morse said, remembering that it was his birthday again. Sure didn’t feel like, or look like, or sound like it, but that’s what happened with age.

< Tag Obi

As he started walking, he heard another Australian accent, only he knew there was only one of those in the platoon. He turned around to see someone he had never seen before coming up behind them. He was a bit skeptical as to exactly who this person was, but he remembered that she came in on the same airship they just dropped in. She must have been part of the supporting group which showed up later.

”Well, well. Who’s the new meat? Aint never seen you before, and I got one a them photographical memories.” Morse said. He was lying. He had one of the worst memories when it came to names and numbers, but not a lot of people in the platoon knew that so he would be fine with that.

< Tag Casey

He reached into his pocket and picket out his flask. As always it was filled to the top with ‘homebrew’. The hard dirt scent which came from the opening was harsh on the senses, but that didn’t stop Morse from taking a slug off top. That’s what he needed. Now it felt like his birthday.

(For the record, Casey's not Australian, and instead was making a quirky comment at Obi's. I can see how this could be confusing though, or that maybe someone might think it anyways, depending on how well an actress she was.)

"New meat eh? I guess I'll take that as the hey how're you of this outfit."

Casey lowered her head briefly with a smug smirk which curved at the right side corner of her lips. Moving one hand back behind her to rub her fingers at her neck, she surfed her hand up and down that length along the pulled back hair and the taut bun which contained her otherwise short mane before continuing.

"Valentine. Corporal Casey Valentine. And... you must be the most charming grunt at camp castle."

She spoke rather sarcastically as she drifted those calculative, stormy blue irises in the direction of Morse's own. Her feet carrying her figure towards the mess in a timely fashion.

Morse listened to the response from the woman he didn’t know. She was smacking back with sarcasm, a quality he liked in people. If they weren’t able to take a hit, then they didn’t belong around him. But this person knew the game well enough, so he didn’t have a problem with it.

”Well shit, I didn’t figure the corps had set it’s standards to such a highness as it would need me to set bars.” Morse said, with a usual dry sense of humor he had. It really went two ways for him, dry or dark, either way was fine. ”What’d ya get lost on a detachment’n figure yer best way outa the shit hole was to cut’n run. Cus I gotta say, it’s gone through my head a time or twenty.” Morse said, letting his rather sneer distaste for being inside of a hotzone show. He was a bit curious how the platoon had managed to lose a few people during the mission, and then wind up leaving overstocked.

Obi stopped and turned around as a female voice he didn't recognise answered him in a very bad attempt at an Australian accent, quickly followed up by the one and only CPL Morse. A tired smile crept on to Obis' face as he waited for the two marines to catch up. His smile grew wider as he listened to the word play between the female marine and Morse. Sarcasm was pouring out of both of them, each line shot back with lethal efficiency.

"Looks like you found someone who can hold their own Morse." Obi said still smiling, turning to the female, Obi shook her hand in greeting.

"Pleasure to meet you Casey, thanks for the backup you and your squad provided out there. Now lets, go lads and lassies, I'll buy you dinner for your birthday Morse." Obi said as he lead the way to the mess.
