M1T7

Post by maxvale76 » Thu Jun 24, 2010 3:50 am

April 2, 2180; Secret Bio-Cyte/Insurrectionist Lab, Daedalus City, Planet Icarus

Support Team; i.e. Shepard and now Quinn

Quinn didn't have a particularly good angle on the rebels he saw moving towards 1st squad's position, but he aimed his Pulse Rifle the best he could and cut loose with a grenade from the built in 30mm launcher. The grenade detonated several meters from the group and Quinn could see one man go down and another drop to the ground and clutch at his legs; in obvious pain. A moment later, Quinn's own ears were ringing and he could feel a deep vibration pass through him and he could see fragments of cement and plaster explode around him as he realized that the insurrectionist with the Rocket Launcher on the roof top had fired on his position. He was okay; but found himself lying face-down and unable to hear anything other than a persistent, deep bass tone...

<Tag Quinn>

Shepard had retrieved Alexander's M42 Scoped Rifle when Simovic's order came through and he moved to the original position where he saw the results of Quinn's greande explode among the enemy group. About half of the group had allready moved ahead towards 1st Squad's position; but of the half-dozen still in sight; one was down for the count and another was crawling into some cover with obvious wounds to the legs. The other four were taking cover and raising weapons towards Quinn's location...

<Tag Shepard>

1st Squad

Simovic saw on the motion tracker that insurrectionists were moving into position to make an assault on the building and he raised his Pulse Rifle to his shoulder and sighted in for a good shot. From their own positions, Brown and O’brien did the same. The familiar sound of a Pulse Rifle being fired signaled the beginning of the attack; as the Rebels fired weapons that had obviously been captured from the Colonial Marines who had garrisoned the planet before the revolt had started.

The enemy fire, though heavy, was not particularly accurate and was obviously meant to serve as cover fire while other insurrectionists moved forward. Simovic saw a cluster of three men move forward and he took careful aim and pulled the trigger for the grenade launcher and with a whooshing sound, a 30mm grenade detonated right in the middle of the group. The results were graphically effective; as all three were torn to shreds from the grenade. Across from where he was positioned, Gaz Brown also cut loose with a grenade; but his aim was nowhere near as good and the grenade impacted on a pile of rubble and its only contribution to the battle was to raise a cloud of dust and rock fragments in the vicinity of the rebels. O’brien took careful aim and fired a burst of 10mm rounds that dropped the insurrectionist who had provided the initial covering fire burst. Simovic risked a quick glance at the motion tracker and he could see that were still about 5 or 6 men moving out there; but now they were hunkering down in cover and more accurate bursts from Pulse Rifles was beginning to ricochet near his and his squad mates’ positions. The initial assault had been blunted; now it was becoming a firefight…

<Tag 1st Squd>

2nd Squad

Patch’s motion tracker continued to blare out its high pitch whine and Captain Ramirez only had enough time to yell out; “Watch out for the cross-fire!”, before a dozen men came around the corners of the hallways and the sounds of fully automatic gunfire echoed loudly throughout the converted warehouse…

Ramirez and Khan both fired well-aimed bursts and dropped a rebel coming around the corner of the hallway in front of them; while another insurrectionist from that group fired a long spray from his SMG which tore into PVT Lionmane’s left thigh and hip. He fell heavily to the ground, while next to him; SGT Kurosaki put a much shorter, but much better aimed burst from his own SMG into that same rebel’s chest; causing him to dance like a puppet on strings for a moment, before collapsing in a heap…

On the other end of the hall, PFC Patch and CPL Morse had turned to face the assailants behind them and between Patch’s hasty and incredibly lucky shotgun blast and Morse’s long burst from his M41E2; they dropped the first two insurrectionist who came around the corner. Another rebel dove back around the corner in the face of such heavy fire, while another stuck the muzzle of a Pulse Rifle around the corner and fired a burst blindly that tore into the wall a good three or four meters from where Morse was standing…

The firing came quick and fast as the first insurrectionist burst through the breach in the compound wall firing as they charged in. Obi crouched a little lower and returned fire. Stroking the trigger, Obi let fly with burst after burst. The thump of a grenade launcher firing caused Obi to duck as Brown fired a 30mm grenade into the breach. Obi ducked as the grenade went off and set off a shower of debris and smoke.

Getting back up Obi raised his rifle and peered down the sights. Despite the chaos going around him, Obi concentrated on his breathing and took slow, steady breaths and waited for a target to appear. An insurrectionist popped out of cover and charged through the gap. Lining up the sights, Obi squeezed the trigger and let loose with a three round burst, with the grim satisfaction of seeing the target crumple and fall.

The initial assault from the insurrectionists slowed right down as they met the concentrated, disciplined fire from the marines.

"I think we got the measure on these fuckers, lads! Keep pouring it on!" Obi shouted out in encouragement.

Quinn looked up and around groggily, his vision blurred and the only sound in his ears being the high-pitched ringing caused from the explosion. There was pain all over, mostly bruises from the concussive shockwave of the explosion.

Rocket explosion. Concussion likely. Possibly deafened. Treatment: nothing immediate. a part of his brain thought. He looked around, and saw his pulse rifle laying on the ground a meter away. It looked like a mile. Quinn crawled towards the weapon, picked it up and stayed down. He scrambled to a wall and sat against it, his head coming in contact with it. Putting his hand on his head in confusion, he realized that his helmet had come off! Looking around, he saw his helmet.

On the other side of the room, past the windows, where he would get shot at. His radio mic was built into it, and without it, he was cut off from the rest of his unit.

Son of a bitch.

"Wo Damn!" Morse yelled when the shots came close to hitting him. He had no trouble with spraying the hostiles down as they came through, but he had a bit of issue when they started shooting back. Of course given their resources in comparison with his, he was at a distinct advantage. But it was never enough for him.

He and Patch had thrown down most of the flanking forces, but being marines, they were always outnumbered and never done. Knowing he had a vast amount of ammunition in his weapon and strapped to him, he continued to fire in bursts of 5 down the rear hall.

He had taken a knee and fired. Again and again, spray after spray of bullets roared from the barrel of his weapon.

"How many a these assholes they got left? Cus I'm doubtin they got any more tickers then I got pulls in my trigger." He said as he fired another series of rounds.

Support Team; i.e. Shepard and Quinn

Shepard heard and felt the rocket explosion and could tell it came from Quinn's position. Glancing out of the shell holes on the opposite wall, he could see an insurrectionist reloading a Rocket Launcher and a second man taking aim with a scoped hunting rifle. Glancing down at the enemies he was currently aiming at, he could see them cutting loose with short bursts towards Quinn's position and taking cover amidst the rubble. Keeping his scope on the rebel he had been aiming at, he took a deep breath; and squeezed the trigger. A 10mm round caught the insurrectionist high in the chest and plunged to the street and lay still. Shifting his aim; he quickly saw that there were no more easy targets...

<Tag Shepard>

Quinn managed to gather his helmet and Pulse Rifle as the ringing in his ears slowly faded and was soon rewarded with the sound of gunfire pelting against the cover he was crawling behind. He could definitely make out that there were at least three weapons firing at his position; though none of them seemed to be particularly well-aimed...

1st Squad

Simovic, O'brien and Brown found themselves in a shooting match with about half a dozen insurrectionists; and while the Marines were better marksman; the rebels had greater numbers. It was shaping up to be a simple matter of who tagged who first and the hardest...

Simovic and O'brien; both Expert Marksmen; managed to score first; with both brining down a rebel with well-aimed short bursts. The insurrectionists though managed to clip PVT Brown with a pair of rounds that hit the marine in the left upper arm and the forearm of the same limb. The upper arm hit was a superficial wound; but the forearm hit shattered the bone and Gaz let out a wail of pain and dropped to the ground, clutching his arm and dropping his weapon...

<Tag 1st Squd>

2nd Squad

Khan fell prone and sprayed the intersection in front of her with her SMG; managing to wound another rebel who pulled back around the corner with a hiss of pain and a yelled obscenity. Ramirez pulled out an M40 greande, popped the top off, armed it and hurled it around the corner with a yell of "Fire in the hole!"...

A moment later, the grenade exploded with a deafening roar throughout the hallways, and the shredded body of an insurrectionist was breifely thrown thru the intersection and landed limply on the ground. The sounds of running feet could be faintly heard in that direction...

On the other end of the hallway; CPL Morse kept pouring on the fire with his M41E2; managing to riddle another rebel who poked around the corner looking to get in some good shots against the marines. The young marine whooped with joy; but soon noticed that his wiry frame was growing exhausted from carrying and firing the heavy weapon. He wasn't sure how much longer he could hold the weapon upright and its muzzle had dropped to the floor a bit when another insurrectionist came around the corner, an SMG at the ready...

PFC Patch took aim with his shotgun and cut loose a blast that blew the rebel back a good 5 feet and leaving him a crumpled mess on the floor. However, the insurrectionist fired a long burst as he was shot and Patch caught a half dozen rounds in the abdomen and chest and he reeled back from the impact and slowly slid down the side wall. His eyes lost focus and he stared at Morse blankly for a second before collapsing onto his stomach and not moving...

Ramirez, called out "Clear on this end!" and turned to check on the marines behind him. Kurosaki was tending to Lionman; reporting that Lionmane was unconscious; but alive. Morse reported gruffly that Patch was done for...

Simovic realised now was the time to fall back he grabbed Brown and helped him towards the corridor. Selecting the Platoon comms channel so everyone was clued up to his squads whereabouts he shouted.

"O'Brien we need to fallback to 2nd Squad ASAP".

Simovic fired a final burst and then helped Brown through the door way and into the corridor beyond. Propping him up against a wall he took his portable welder and waited for O'Brien to fall back before sealing the door closed.

When Morse saw the rebel come around the corner with his weapon at rest he had a sudden shock and stumbled back. "This is it, it's been fun" He thought. His mind was a bit calmer then his physical reaction was, as he was stumbling on his ass.

There were then a heavy sound, like a cannon shot matched with the dropping of ten metal pots all at once. Morse saw the rebel suddenly jolt backwards, but all the while squeezing out a spray of bullets. Morse covered his head as the rounds poured out, and looked up when it was done.

Right across from him, Patch was sliding down the wall, a huge stain of blood on the wall behind him, as well as coming from his chest. He didn't even have to question the damage, it was fatal. It wasn't the first time Morse had watched the light leave someones eyes, but it was weird having them stare only at him.

Morse scrambled to his feet, yelling the first thing that came to mind. "Oh FUCK!" He said moving towards Patch who was on the ground. He stood over him quickly, but there was nothing to be done, the man was already dead. He adjusted his own helmet to get a better look. He'd been shredded by the rebels gun. Morse hadn't known Patch that well, at all. This was the first time they'd been put in the same squad, but there were others in the platoon that would likely take it worse then he was.

Given that, Morse brought his weapon back up to bare, looking down the hallway. He saw nothing, but that's how they'd gotten Patch. He snapped the bi-pod down of the front of the M41A-E2, in case he had to dive on the floor for a heavy burst. But he heard the Captain call all clear, and request report. He grabbed Patches K52 Med-Kit which was slung around him and put it on. It would still be useful to them. He turned and moved back to the Captain and the rest of the squad.

"Patch, uh, Patch's on his way out. Got swiss cheesed by one a the assholes what done snuck up from behind us. But far's I tell it's all clear back there." He said, then looking at his ammo reader. 146 rounds he had left, he had just past the half way mark on his clip. He had plenty more, but he was surprised he used so few, it seemed like he'd shot more. Sweat came down his face, as he waited for further instructions. With the added weight of the K52 med kit, he was starting to really feel the effects of the weight. He wouldn't be able to shoot standing up much anymore, but as long as the E2 and the K52 were both slung on him, he'd try to keep up.

< Tag Ramirez

(I don't know if were still using the old stats for the character, but i know that Morse had some considerable medical training, so I am qualified to use the K52 Med-Kit I think.)

OOC: Yep, Morse is P (Proficent: 3 boxes) in Medical Training, so using the K52 is no problem. Also, I did a couple of minor edits: Ramirez is a Captain; good scene, carry on!)

Quinn gathered up his helmet, popping it back on his head and got the news about Patch.

"Morse, what you need to do right now is stop any internal bleeding." he informed as he took cover against the poorly aimed sporadic fire coming through the windows. "Hook in a bag of..."

Quinn checked his own K52 readout for a moment, thumbing to Patch's vitals and information. "Hook in a bag of O-Negative into his vein, not his artery. Then lay him on the floor. I'm on my way!"

Jumping up, Quinn bolted for the stairs and down, running as fast as he was capable towards Patch's position. He estimated that Patch had minutes due to his injuries.

Morse heard the sudden chatter coming through his ear piece and began to try to sort through it. He wasn't sure who it was at first, but given the spread of information regarding a medical nature, the only other person besides Patch qualified to give it was Quinn.

Morse looked at Ramirez first, shaking his head. There wasn't anything that could be done there, but he waited for the chatter to clear.

He reached his hand up to his helmet ear piece. Morse had received quite a bit of infield medical training, and this was a vain effort. "Negative on that Quinn, Patch is down and out. Aint nothin's to be done, he's gone." Morse said into the com piece. There was nothing more he had to say then that. What else was there to say. Words of support? "Sorry man, he was a good guy."? Or something stern. "Stay with the squad.". He didn't know, so he stuck to what was essentially needed.

(OOC: I am under the impression that Patch is dead. If I'm wrong, then I gotta edit this post, and the one before it. I've got enough in medical to know if he was alive or dead, so I'll have to do that. But if he's dead, keep it as is.)

Simovic and O'brien; both Expert Marksmen; managed to score first; with both brining down a rebel with well-aimed short bursts.
Obi continued to fire, precise bursts of 2 to 3 rounds was his method. He had personally seen two of the enemy personnel brought down by his fire. While the marines had the initial advantage with better marksmen, the enemy numbers and weight of fire was starting to tell. Even more insurrectionist charged through the breach as Obi dropped another that went down in an explosion of blood as his 3 rounds buried themselves into the insurrectionists chest.

Dropping into cover, Obi hit the magazine release catch and let it drop from the rifle into his lap. Reaching into his webbing he reloaded the rifle with a fresh mag and slipped the empty one back into his webbing pouch. Slowly looking up he quickly peeked around from cover and ducked back in just as quick as the burst of insurrectionist fire peppered the along the wall. That was way to close for my liking. See how you like this. Obi thought as he removed a M40 grenade from his webbing, popping the top he depressed the arming button and with a mental 2,3 count he threw it over and out into the open. The thump grenade going off so close left a ringing in O'Briens ears has he popped back up and started to return fire.

<roll grenade throw>
The insurrectionists though managed to clip PVT Brown with a pair of rounds that hit the marine in the left upper arm and the forearm of the same limb. The upper arm hit was a superficial wound; but the forearm hit shattered the bone and Gaz let out a wail of pain and dropped to the ground, clutching his arm and dropping his weapon.
A short sharp scream of pain caused Obi to spin around to see Gaz drop his weapon and slide to the ground.

"GAZ IS HIT! GAZ IS HIT!" Obi screamed as he dropped down and quickly made his way over to his fallen comrade. Grabbing his squad mate by the armour, Obi roughly and quickly dragged him further into cover. Gaz screamed out in pain, but Obi knew that it was not the time to be gentle. Still dragging the Obi moved to get him inside the facility itself where 2nd Squad was situated. Staff Simovic came charging out to the two marines and grabbed Brown from Obi and started moving him inside.
"O'Brien we need to fallback to 2nd Squad ASAP".
"Roger Staff, you and Brown get inside and I'll seal the door behind us!" Obi replied as the SSGT fell back with the wounded marine. Keeping low Obi moved to here Brown was hit. Taking cover and removed and M40 grenade, armed it and threw it out, quickly followed by another. Not looking to see the results of the grenade's handiwork. Obi picked up Gazs' fallen M41 and slung it over his shoulder and ran back to the corridor to rejoin 2nd squad.
