M1T4

Post by maxvale76 » Mon Apr 05, 2010 3:24 pm

April 2, 2180; Colony Complex "Daedalus City", Planet Icarus

Captain Ramirez and SSGT Simovic go over the callsigns one last time and then the marines all take one last deep breath as the Dropship touches down and then SGT Pitt orders PFC Han to "Step on it Theo!"

They can all hear the APC's engine roar into life and the military vehicle quickly accelerates to its top speed and the marines are suddenly doing all they can to not get flung around as Theo takes corners at high speed and they hit numerous pot holes, debris from shattered buildings and blast craters. Looking over at the camera feed from the APC's all around cameras, SGT Pitt has the vehicles powerful turret on line and moving on a slow, 360 degree sweep in case of any signs of enemy activity. Every once and a while, streaks of tracers or bursts of artillery rounds flash on the camera scenes; while the sounds of battle occasionally make thier way through the APC's hide. There's no doubt about it; it's a hot and heavy war zone out there...

Ramirez moves to the door, ready to exit first and throws a quick questioning glance at Khan. She seems as calm as ice and moves into position, while pulling her SMG to the 'ready' position. Speaking into the comm mike attached to his helmet, the Captain asks the driver; "How close can you get us Theo?" PFC Han's excitable voice calls back; "Looks like about three blocks, skipper....best I can do!" There is the sudden sound of small arms fire hitting the roof of the APC. It sounds like hail on a tin roof. Pitt calls out; "Ten o'clock high; a couple of rebels....I got 'em!"; as he moves the controls of the APC's turret and squeezes the triggers. There is a much deeper booming sound as the vehicle's twin cannons cut loose and on the camera scene, a window on a burned out building which has served as a post for the Insurrectionists is suddenly transformed into clouds of dust and exploding fragments. The sound of hail cuts out abruptly...

A few seconds later, Theo calls out again; "Okay Cap'n; here we go!" The sound of brakes being slammed on echo through the APC and the vehicle itself suddenlyswerves sharply to the side, before coming to a stop. As the vehicle comes to rest; Ramirez pulls open the door and is out the hatch in a flash with a yell of; "Allright Marines, let's move!" Khan follows in a flash and within moments, all of the marines are out of the APC and moving into the narrow confines of a blasted out city at night. There is enough light from the moon, the tracers and the shell bursts to see clearly that the APC could go no further as the road after this point is just too cluttered with ruins and deep holes to have gone any further. The marines are now on the ground and the mission is underway...

Morse rocked and shook with the movements of the APC. He'd driven this massive vehicle once before, coincidentally, during the last insurrection the platoon had been called to be present at. He wasn't a big fan of sitting outside, but he knew that being outside of the vehicle was safer then being in it. Once somebody found out the APC's location, and brought somethin heavy like some crazy jacked "SADAR" then it was all over. So really, he was hoping they could stop so his percentage of living would increase.

He reached up in the storage compartment above his seat and grabbed the long, menacing, M41A-E2 which he'd be requisitioning for the last few missions. He loved this weapon. The trouble was he wasn't exactly sure if it alone was capable of holding up as the entire platoons heavy support. But he'd be easily more mobile then a 'Smartgun' so it shouldn't make much of a difference.

He looked around to see that none of the officers, commissioned or non, were in his field of view. He then quickly reached into his pocket, grabbed his flask, and took a quick drink of 'Homebrew'. The stinging scent filled the immediate area around him. Like sniffing muddy dirt and grass, but Morse didn't care. There wasn't but 3 seconds went by, when the words Let's move went out.

Morse charged out of the APC, along with the rest of the platoon, and poured into the dark night air around them. He quickly formed up with second squad, and took up rear guard. This was his usual job, and he saw no reason why this was changing now.

The APC slammed to a halt and marines began to debus at the rush. Obi flipped down his IR lens and the world turned an eerie shade of green as he jumped down, rifle into the shoulder and took cover as he dropped to a knee just inside the blown open wall of a burnt out building. This place as copped a pounding. Obi thought as he took in the destroyed, burnt out buildings, and the debris of battle scattered all over what was left of a street. Obi turned his head as a marine came sliding into cover behind him.

“Well, hi there Brownie, nice night for a stroll hey mate?” Obi said quietly with a slight grin as shell bursts and gunfire rattled away in the distance.

Looking outwards and continuing to scan his immediate surroundings for a threat, Obi keyed the radio and performed a radio check between the other squads, APC and Dropship. Satisfied that cipher communications between all units were loud and clear he kicked to his squad channel.

“ Streetgang 1 Alpha, this is, 1 Charlie, have good cipher comms between all other callsigns. Fire team Bravo standing by ready to move, over.”

Simovic and the rest of the platoon exited the APC after the twin 40mm cannons destroyed part of the building the insurgents had been occupying seconds earlier. Still he wasn't taking any chances.

Simovic then motioned to Quinn to move up to the corner of the building to cover Fireteam Alpha at the same time he scanned his motion tracker for any unknown movement indicators while moving up as well.

"Hell yeah Corp, beautiful night", Gaz replied quietly. This was Gaz's favorate mission so far. It sure beat creeping around in the dank, dark sewers. Or floating around on the bottom of the ocean in a bulky pressure suit. The one thing that he just had to keep pushing to the back of his mind was that on this mission, the targets shoot back. Worse yet, those harvester things could be running around. Still, he had to just keep his mind on the mission and focus, so that was what he did.

"Roger that 1 Charlie. I want you to take Fireteam Bravo and sweep through the insurgents last known location, Fireteam Alpha will cover you. Streetgang Two and Three form a defensive perimeter while the sweep is conducted, over".

“1 Alpha, this, 1 Charlie, roger, Fireteam Bravo is Oscar Mike, out.” Obi responded. Turning around he tapped PVT Brown his helmet to get his attention.

“Right Gaz, the Staff wants us to do a sweep, so we are going to head down the left hand side of the street for about a 100m, then working our way back up on the right side. Lets’ keep it nice and slow, and keep some spacing, as we don’t want some booby trap taking us both out. If its hostile waste it, don’t fuck about. If we run into a superior force we are going to get the hell out of dodge and I’ll call the dropship in to lay down some fire support, got it? Good, lets roll.” Obi said quietly as Brown gave him a thumbs up.

Standing up, M-41A firmly into his shoulder he quickly turned his head to see PVT Brown ready to move behind him. Nodding, Obi jerked his head in the direction of down the street and moved out.

Eyes looking down the sights of his rifle, Obi’s head and eyes moved with the direction of the barrel, as if they were linked together. Sweeping across his front and up high, waiting for a threat to pop up or appear in a building window. Keeping low as he pulled himself over a pile or rubble that once was a building wall, realisation kicked in as he took in the blown out buildings. These fuckers have got access to some serious heavy artillery to this kind of damage. Great. His confidence was further reinforced as a fresh blast of shell fire and gun fire erupted in the near distance.

The two marines had travelled approximately 30m when Obi raised his left fist to halt, and then made a downward motion slowly with his hand, to take cover. Both marines crouched into cover and stayed perfectly still, ears straining, listening out for any sound to give away an enemy position. They stayed there for what seemed like an eternity but was actually five minutes, when Obi made and upward motion and sweeping forward motion with his left hand and both marines slowly moved out again and continued forward.

Morse's ever prevailing grin slipped on his face. "Hell ya" Morse said as he lifted the M41A-E2 up and snapped the bi-pod on it down. He absolutely loved staying in one position, and was never fond of moving around in foreign territory, much as they were doing right now. But if they were going to stick to this position right here, then he'd be having some real fun.

He walked over to a pile of rubble beside a building the near. To his left was a solid piece of metal or brick, he didn't bother to check, which was over 5 feet tall. He crouched down behind a small pile of brick which sat beside this wall and laid his weapon down upon it. It was facing the rear, which it usually did. He sat down now and kept his eye trained on the darkness. "This is lookin pretty good fer diggin n' sittin."

"Fireteam Bravo, this is SG1 Alpha, don't stray to far just investigate the destroyed building and make sure there's no hostile's left, over".
"1A, this is Fireteam Bravo, wilco. My intentions are to sweep around the side and enter the building from the rear, and flush any remaining hostilies out through the front into your field of fire, out." Obi whispered quietly into his headset.

Signalling to Gaz to hold his position and provide cover, Obi quickly and quietly sprinted across the street and pressed himself up against the wall of the building, keeping a low profile as possible. Giving the area a quick sweep, Obi kept a finger light on the trigger as he swept the area as Gaz sprinted across and slid in next to Obi. Both marines waited, listening out, Pulse Rifles constantly sweeping high and low. Tapping Gaz on the shoulder Obi, pointed down the ally way with his left hand, swiftly and quietly, Obi leading the way, the marines moved down the ally way making there way to the rear of the building.

As Obi and Gaz move towards the building where the rebels were fired upon, they can see large chunks of masonry and human flesh scattered on the ground; the results of the deadly 40mm High Explosive Anti-Peronnel rounds that SGT Pitt had utilized to neutralize the threat. They can make out the grizzly remains of at least two men as they move towards the rear of the building. A stairway leads up into the building; and as the marines pause at the base of the steps, they neither see nor hear any signs of life coming from the building; just the eerie sounds of wind blowing through the new holes in the wall and the distant sounds of the battle going on all around them....

<Tag Obi and Gaz>

Morse sets down his M41E2 and gets into good covering position and a few moments later, he can just see the outline of a skulking figure through a blown out window in a building across the street. The IR signature is better and it appears as if the figure has some kind of small, box shaped object held up to his ear; most likely a comm...

<Tag Morse>

Further down the street, Ramirez and Kahn start to move forward rapidly and in near-total silence. The Captain and the rest of the marines are quite impressed by Kahn's easy familiarity with the 'cover your buddy' small unit movements as she makes sure Ramirez' back is covered and then moves when he has reached a position to cover hers. A moment later, Ramirez' voice comes over Simovic's and the rest of the deployed marines' comms; "Allright Sargeant; we've got a good position here; move the rest of the platoon up."

<Tag Simovic and all deployed marines>

Aboard the APC, Dirk is doing his best to keep an eye on the various camera screens showing both the situation all around the vehicle and the individual viewpoints of the deployed marines. He sees Morse's camera catch a shadowy figure moving, but quickly realizes he has no shot with the APC's cannons at the target; the line of fire just isn't there. However, he's soon distracted by the sight of a figure being literally hurled some 30-40 feet into the air above one of the alleys on the opposite side of the APC from where the marines disembarked. The man lands with a fatal bounce on the hard surface below and the APC's cameras catch bits of movements from a truly huge creature that can only be a full grown Harvester moving towards the body from down the alley. Allthough he has no shot at the moment, the body has landed in the middle of an intersection just three blocks from where the APC is parked and this is in line with the APC's weapons...

Obi eyed the remains of the two bodies the two enemy personnel, which pretty much amounted to a bloody mush as they obviously blown out of the second story and had directly received hits from the APC's main armament.

"All callsigns, this 1C, have two enemy KIA. Now proceeding inside the building to continue our sweep, out."

Obi whispered quietly into his headset as the two marines entered the ground floor. Covering each other as they searched the ground floor, which was of an open door floor design with only two separate rooms. Once clear, Obi and Gaz headed back towards the rear of the building, Obi radioing in the search results.

"All callsigns, this is 1C, ground floor clear, proceeding to next level, out."

Climbing the stairs quietly and slowly, the two marines took up position either side of the doorway, listening intently to see if they could hear any enemy personal still alive after the APC's deadly barrage. Looking at Gaz, Obi held up three fingers and Gaz nodded in undertanding. Raising his rifle firmly into his shoulder, finger on the trigger ready to fire. Taking a deep breathe, Obi slowly counted down and then swung the door open rapidly.....

Kurosaki moved out of the APC as quickly as he could, sticking close to Morse. Kurosaki was about to order an advance, when he saw a figure nearby. Kurosaki raised his SMG and aimed, but didn't fire. It was too far to get an accurate shot.

Morse, fire a burst at him

Kurosaki whispered to Morse. As Morse got ready to take the shot, Kurosaki took a glance at the surroundings.

Morse's grin widened a bit when he saw the target. He had been given order to fire. Of course at the current distance he wasn't sure if he could make that sort of a shot dead on. But this weapon wasn't designed for pin point accuracy, it keyed off the old southern prospect of "Fire enough bullets and you'll probably hit the target".

Morse having set the bi-pod down looked through his 'red-eye' and mentally measured where to place the target. He brought the barrel of his weapon to point as accurately towards it as possible.

"Secede from this, asshole." Morse muttered with a grin as he squeezed the trigger on the weapon.

It roared aggressively in the relatively quiet portion of the area they were in and light flickered from the barrel. Five shots rippled out of the weapon in quick succession and soared down towards the target.

Simovic motioned the platoon to move up to the Captains position at the same time he saw that Morse was opening up on something with his Light Support Pulse Rifle. As Kurosaki had also peeled off to engage he radio'd them both "Fireteam Charlie this is SG1 Alpha can I have a status update over".

Morse's five round burst echoes loudly throughout the alleyway and the figure of the man running through a nearby building suddenly spins to the side as several of the rounds impact his abdomen and upper chest and he collapses in a heap. Kurosaki and Morse's note the target's IR signature begin to cool rapidly...

Simovic moves most of the rest of the deployed marines to Ramirez's initial position and notes the the Captain and Khan have found a good place to kneel down behind some rubble about a block away...

Obi and Gaz kick open the door and spin into the shot-up room with weapons levelled and fingers on the trigger; only to discover a grizzly room with a chewed up body of a rebel and some basic rations and bedrolls in addition to hunks of masonry, human parts and a massive hole in the wall. It's obvious that this room was used as an observation post by the Insurrectionists. Nothing else of interest is readily apparent in the room...

Back in the APC, Dirk opens up on the visible parts of the Harvester he can see through the gun camera and notes with satisfaction that a couple of rounds impact on the top of the Harvester's back and blow out large chunks of flesh. His satisfaction quickly turns to wide-eyed surprise and fear spikes his adrenaline as the harvester suddenly rounds the corner and the massive creature, now bleeding heavily, roars with fury and looks for the source of its pain; quickly focusing on the APC and looking directly towards the APC's camera angle; Pitt sees first hand the massive creature's powerfull claws and terrifying maw...
