Hanger Bay, USS Chicago, Gateway Station, Sol System

After a too short night of R&R and a way too early wake up call; the marines make thier way to the hanger bay of the USS Chicago; another of the ubiquitous Connestoga class Cruisers they've become quite familiar with during thier time in the Corps.

As the marines file in; they see the hanger bay has a pair of loaded and fueled UD 4 Cheyenne Dropships locked into place, as well as a M577 APC in the center of the cavernous room, with a cluster of half a dozen people around it. One of the cluster, Captain Ramirez, breaks away from the group and comes over towards the new arrivals.

"Good morning marines; are we all present and accounted for? Good, good. Come on over here and meet the rest of the unit." Ushering the marines over, they quickly see Indira Khan, dressed in a marine olive-drab jumpsuit with no insignia of any kind. She has a holstered VP 70 pistol and a M39 SMG slung over her shoulder. She nods in greeting to everyone.

The other four people are all marines; two are in flight suits and are obviously the Dropship crew that will be ferrying them down to Icarus. The pilot is a short, stocky blond man with a no-nonsense look and a name tag that reads off 'CPL James Hanson'. His co-pilot is a tall, gorgeous dark skinned woman whose name tag reads 'PFC Gloria Alante'. She seems quiet, but friendly and her voiced greetings carry a trace of a West African accent. The next marine is in the standard BDU's of a 'mud marine', and is of average height and build. He has spikey black hair and is obviously of Asian ancestry. He has a wide grin and mischevious eyes. His nametage spells out; "PFC Theo Han" and he introduces himself as the APC driver.

The last marine is an unexpected and familiar face to most of the marines; SGT Dirk Pitt...

Obi walked through the passageways of Gateway Station as he made his way to the berth to where the USS Chicago was currently docked. His duffel bag slung over his left shoulder Obi made his way through the early morning rush as the station personnel started their day and on coming and off going watch keepers either started or ended their watches. Following the Stations signage Obi made his way to Dock 12. Turning right at a final junction, Obi walked towards the airlock umbilical. Stopping at a view port Obi gazed out and looked over at the Starship that was going to carry the Marines on their Government funded trip. The docked Conestoga class vessel carried the arrogant grace her kind. Lit up with the lights of an 'anchored' starship, Obi watched as ferry shuttles entered and exited her docking bays with supples and the flash and spark of light as Gateway Station yard dogs in EVA suits worked on her hull. Movement caught Obi's eye as he noticed the ventral railgun turrent moving around. Looks like the Navy is scaring the ferry shuttle pilots with their tracking drills again! Obi thought with a grin as the turrent tracked a ferry shuttle as it flew away from the Starship.

Glancing at his watch, Obi realised he still had plenty of time before his leave was up. Don't have to report till 1000, hmm two hours to kill. Should get aboard and stow my kit and grab a brew I suppose.

Walking down to the airlock entrance Obi crossed the airlock and saluted as he crossed the 'gangway' and officially exited the station and stepped aboard the starship. Nodding in greeting to the Navy Petty Officer manning the Quartermaster desk, Obi flashed his ID and headed on down to the Marine messdecks.

Two hours later with his kit stowed in his locker, Obi sat on missile trolley in the main hanger deck reading his PDA with his brew mug steaming in his left hand. The marines entered in dribs and drabs, some of them looking worse for wear. Its a good thing we going into cryo, some of them look like they could use decent sleep. Obi thought with a small grin as he took a sip of his coffee as he looked at the sunken, sleeped deprived, hungover expressions on a few of the platoons members. Though he quickly noticed their surprised faces when they realised that an old comrade was in their presence. Obi had been just as pleasently surprised when he walked into the Hanger deck and seen SGT Dirk Pitt standing there in conversation with the Dropship crew. It is good to have him back, good man under fire, plus his fought those things before and his experience will save lives here.

Dirk looked out at his old squad for a moment. It was good seeing them again after so much time away. He had always believed that this unit was the best in the Corps, and time after time he was proven right. That's why he had talked to Captain Ramirez about them. Those things were killing machines and It would take the best to take them down.

Running his hand over the four long scars that ran down the left side of his face he thought for a moment about the last unit he had been assigned to. The perimeter being over run, those things coming at them from all sides. He lost half the men under his command in the first ten minutes of the fight and was wounded himself, but they pushed those things back into the night.

Shaking his head to clear his mind, he pushed those memories back to the corner of his mind. Lighting a cigarette he waited for Captain Ramirez to get the briefing started.

Gaz entered the mess area of the cruiser and poured a cup of coffee. He walked over to the table and sat down; his head was splitting. Not only did he have a horrible hangover, but he also had a black eye and what he was certain was a broken nose. He just wanted to get this briefing over with and get into cryo. Needless to say, he had a rough night.

patch had spent the first hour of the morning eating and exercising now it was time to head to the flight deck. he caught up with a couple of the other marines as they all entered the load area, he noticed with mild surprise that sgt pitt was by the apc along with a few marines he didn't know.

as Ramirez snapped out his request he automatically answered "aye aye" and ramirez setteled down to introduce the other new marines. so it seemed that pitt had been called in specially and if patch was not mistaken those new scars would be a perfect match of a claw from one of the xeno-morphs, patch idly wondered what sargent dirk had been upto and where. these creatures were spreading around the universe and it appeared they were doing it quite quickly. the question that jumped into patches mind first was "how?" they had certainly shown no ability to have simple tools never mind space flight. patch had a horrible thought and hoped he was wrong, was someone as yet unknown deliberatly putting these things on planets.

Morse stopped before walking into the hanger. He looked around the corner into the hanger to see who was in there. Just before going in he pulled out his flask and took a drink from it. He had a full stock of 'homebrew' made up and contained in his locker. But either way, he didn't want to have to bothers with superiors complaining about it. He put the flask away and walked into the hanger. Slung over his arm was the M41A-E2 which had requested yet again for the mission.

Generally it wasn't common for soldiers to bring their weapons with them, but Morse wanted to work on cleaning the pieces on it. The E2 had a considerably larger amount of parts then the standard model, so it would take him some time to do it. A small metal cart is what he decided to do this on and he went to work with it. When they were called over, he pulled the cart with him. He stood with the group of Marines opposite the supporting personnel.

He was surprised to see Dirk, he hadn't heard anything about his old squad leader in some time. He hadn't made a point of following him, so it was rather unexpected to see him there. He continued cleaning the parts on the cart and watched for something to happen.

Sixtus swam through the umbilical towards the Conestoga, his feet hitting the deck once he got into the artificial gravity of the Marine ship. He was greeted again with the drab, spartan look of the U.S.S. Chicago, similar to many ships of her class. Once he spotted the Colonel, he tossed a tight salute and dropped it once it was returned.

Upon getting the "gather 'round" from the Colonel, he responded with a gravelly "Yes sir.". He nodded to the dropship pilots and Miss Khan. He eyed her slung SMG with concern, raising a single eyebrow at it. He was used to carrying a sidearm on the ship, but a slung weapon was quite another, unless it was being brought on board.

Maybe she just got here... Quinn thought to himself. But she was a civvie, and wasn't used to the same regs that he was. And since she hadn't gone through Boot, she might crack up as soon as the shit hit the fan. Who knew...

He settled in a chair near to Morse, who was busily taking apart his E2 on a cart.

"You have to do that now?" he asked the man.

Morse kept dismantling the weapon piece by piece on his cart, standing in front of it as he did. There seemed to be a bit of silence from them all. He looked up a moment. The silence seemed to fall as the marines of the platoon and the support group were judging each other. Maybe it was a general acceptance, but Morse himself being of the confrontational sort he believed it was because they had general hate of each other.

There'd been several times when he'd been there for arguments between support groups and platoon personnel. Support groups believed that the grunts of the corps were nothing but brutish morons, and in general marines found support groups to be pompus and had their heads so far up their ass's that they believed their own shit was the almighty's gift to humanity.

Morse barely noticed when Corpsmen Quinn came and sat in a chair near him. He continued to dismantle the weapon down to the bone. "Strip her down, clean her by bit, put her back together. Aint to sure what we're doin with all them though." Morse said talking about the support group standing opposite the platoon personnel.

Putting his PDA back in his leg pocket, Obi picked up his brew and ambled over to Quinn and Morse, who was busy field stripping his M-41E2.

"G'day Quinn, Morse, how you lads going? You need a hand cleaning that puppy mate?" Obi asked with a smile as he approached the two marines.

Before Morse heard a response from the Corpsmen Quinn, the Outback Son came ambling over to them. Morse wanted to grab a drink from his flask, but being on duty, and in front of the commanding officer it didn't seem like a good idea. Especially given the extremely strong scent which it carried with it.

"Aint no different then most days. Gotta get this weapon ready and rearin', she don't come pre-set way's in which's good." Morse responded to the thick Australian accent which had spoken to him. He didn't actually look up at him, he rarely did that. The peripheral view was generally good enough for him.

" I hear you there mate, I know what you mean." Obi responded as he grabbed a cleaning cloth and picked up a piece of the disassembled weapon. Wiping it down, the two marines shared a companionable silence amongest the noise of the hanger as they worked quickly and efficiently.

As the marines all gather around, Captain Ramirez moves to the front to speak to the whole group. Indira Khan, some of the marines note; begins to break down her M39 SMG in a thoroughly professional manner. Anyone looking closely can tell that the M39 is no USCM issue.

Ramirez speaks up; "All right Marines, before we take our little nap while we travel to Icarus; I thought I'd go over the plan and why I've divided up our group the way I have. First things first; Ms. Khan and I will be the Command Team; we will take point as I know the colony streets we'll be travelling firsthand and Ms. Khan knows the building layout."

"Following close behind will be First and Second Squads. First Squad, led by SSGT Simovic; will be the main 'fire group'. Every marine in this squad has rated at least a 'Sharpshooter' rating with various Corps weapons. When we enter the building, it will be First Squad's job to hold the entrance against any Insurrectionist bastards who attempt to come in after us."

"Second Squad, led by SGT Kurosaki, will back up the Command Team inside the complex; as they are manned by marines who have all rated high on Infiltration tests. Our goal of securing the Scientists, thier research and the Xenomorph eggs means we will be moving quick and quiet. We will, however, have CPL Morse and his M41E2 to back us up in case we run into major opposition."

"The Support Team will consist of Privates Shepard and Alexander, both equipped with M42 'Sniper' Rifles. They have both rated as at least 'Sharpshooter' with this weapon, and will move to a building roof with good lines of fire to the complex entrance to serve as Overwatch."

Turing to these two marines, Ramirez looks directly at both of them. "Now normally, I wouldn't give this kind of assignment to a pair of marines as inexperienced as you two; but I believe you're up to the task. I'm counting on you two marines, so speak up if you have any questions or concerns."

Turning to SGT Pitt, PFC Han and the Dropship crew, Ramirez says; "SGT Pitt here will be manning the Command station onboard the APC, monitoring our progress and staying in touch with us via the PRC radios Kurosaki and O'brien will be carrying. He will have the full armaments of the M577 at his disposal as well as staying in contact with the Drophsip crew", here, he nods to Hanson and Alante; "Which will be maintaining station in low altitude a few miles outside Daedalus City."

Looking over the group as a whole, he says; "Any questions before we get underway and take our nice nap?"

Picking up another piece of Morses' weapon, Obi wiped it over as he listened to Captain Ramirez brief the gathered marines. Nodding to himself as he made note of the various points the Captain raised, Obi finished off cleaning the part and passed it over to Morse was finishing the rest of the weapon off. Wiping his hands off with the cleaning cloth, Obi didn't look up as he called out.

"Sir, do we have an intel on what weapons the Insurrectionists have? Is it just small arms, or do they have bigger stuff that can knock down a dropship or take out an APC?"

Morse got caught up in thought for a moment. For the sake proving someone wrong he thought about voicing the fact that the M41A-E2 fired quieter then the standard model by about 2 decibels, not that anyone would notice that. It was a minor sound suppression system in the elongated barrel, but what difference did that make? He instead had a more pressing question on his mind.

"We gonna have a synthetic on this one?" Morse asked. His thoughts on synthetics had been something of public knowledge for all of the people in his platoon. He despised the non-human, simply because they viewed themselves as perfect. Because of this he hated them, as no one and no thing knew and could do everything.

Morse took the piece of the weapon which Obi had decided to help him with and moved it to the other side of the tray. He wasn't the biggest fan of people touching the weapon. While the Standard Model M41A and this were similar, there were some considerable differences, and he didn't want to run the risk of someone messing up some of it. He subtly moved the tray away from him while he asked his question.

patch new he would be in second squad without even looking, stealthy he could be...hit a hanger door ay 100 paces...only if he used a full clip, hurrah gotta love a good shot gun, wide area effect.

just then morse spoke up
"We gonna have a synthetic on this one?" Morse asked.
patch smiled, remembering jean before she got posted away or recalled or what ever had happened, oh yeah to see a synthetic in that format agin would be no bad thing.

"we can hope" patch said, then cringed as he remembered not every one had viewed jean as ...well enthusiastically as he had.
