Major crash

The site crashed today and several files were corrupted.

It was this >< close losing the lastest two months of data. I actually don't know exactly what I did but it seems to be working now? The theme will stay like this for a few days until I see that everything is running again.

Best regards

//Nick

Might have gotten the theme to work again. Cross your fingers.

I'm going through the Polaris threads at the moment and noticed that the jpgs used in the briefing thread aren't showing at all.
Places I've noticed missing pictures are:

Turn 2: First Assembly at 0800
viewtopic.php?f=77&t=2486#p31753

Between Turn 2 And 3
viewtopic.php?f=77&t=2487#p31789

I think that's all of them.

I can probably fix those with images in the maps/roster section as linked images. I think that will help to save Nick data for the site as well since the image will be hosted off site. I'll get it done this weekend.

I think the problem was an update to the PHP software and not anything that we did. Thank you, Nick, for taking care of the issue for us! Hopefully we can get all the minor issues fixed soon but for now let's just be happy we are still able to play.

Don't use photobucket. They don't allow 3rd party hosting on their free accounts. I had one and it worked fine for over a decade until they imposed a site-wide ban on 3rd party hosting. To get that feature back, they wanted everyone to pay 399.00 (yes, that's a penny short of four HUNDRED) annually for an account with that feature unlocked.

Now, perhaps it was just a problem only on my machine but despite Photobucket.com stating IN WRITING that my pictures were perfectly safe and I could download my pictures and save them before deleting my account, all the pictures I tried to download could not be opened on my machine as readable files. This, despite it being my machine that uploaded them to photophucket in the first place.

Luckily for me, I *never* post a picture online that I don't have the original image of stored OFFLINE. Because I'm paranoid about server crashes.

I gave photophucket my middle phinger and took myself off to flickr. They have no problem with 3rd party hosting and they aren't wretchedly pox-ridden with ads, either. Toward the end, I could barely get a photophucket page to load at all, due to the bandwidth-vampire ads they ran.

Yes. I am still bitter about it. Why? Does it show?

Crazy weekend, spent most of last night on a probable homicide. Will probably just host it from deviant art. All it really needs is a site with a .jpg image address, maybe a .png.

Yea i've seen a ton of dead links over the past few years from old photobucket links.
