Reference Material
Watching the 1986 Theatrical Version of Aliens for inspiration as I write the next Turn.

Re: Reference Material
This might sound heretical; but I actually like the extended version better; the intro scene with Newt's family; learning about Ripley's lost daughter and the Sentry gun scenes just add that extra bit of awesome to an allready great movie.
On the other hand....Hudson's banter about his squad of "ultimate bad-asses" and references to energy weapons I could do without.....which is strange; since every other scene Hudson is in he OWNS!
Just my 2 cents!

Directors cut is better. Hudsons speech is great, Sam just doesn't like people being loud and abnoxious.

If I didn't like loud and obnoxious; I would have had Sam write a letter to Morse's folks a couple of times now!
No; it's not the loud and obnoxious part; I actually really like Hudson (I think his line of "Maybe we should put her in charge!" is the single best line of the movie!); I just think that particular scene is a little lame; plus I'm not a big fan of the scene which mentions energy weapons when no energy weapons are used throughout the movie...it makes for a bit of a logical question....i.e.; why didn't they use any of them. (I know, I know...somebody can come up with half-a-million reasons as to why not; I just think it 'breaks' the flow of the movie a little bit..which is partly why I think Cameron cut that scene; but that's just my opinion)
Anyway; as I've LONG maintained; it's a free country and everyone is entitled to their own opinion; just because it might not be my own opinion...doesn't make it the WRONG opinion. (Unless it's Morse's...then it's DEFINITELY wrong!

I know you said not to, but I do feel the need to mention that he also mentioned 'nukes, knives, and sharpsticks.' - Why didn't they use any of those. I think he was just going over their arsenal. Its probably like a sniper rifle or an anti armor weapon that was just impractical.
And your just jealous that you cant feel as free to consider the right answer as irrelevant as I do.

Re: Reference Material
Maybe Cameron was actually setting up for another movie that never came to be or is still in the works. After the USCM is the baddest part of the whole movie. We've seen Aliens multiple time but they couldn't defeat the Marines and Ripley. Just saying IMOHYAO (In My Own Humble Yet Accurate Opinion)!

Couldn't defeat the marines?
I don't know if you've been keeping up with current events pal, but they got their asses handed to them.
Humans never win, THAT is the Aliens universe.

Ah, but who won in the end. During the American Civil War the death rate was far higher for the Yankees than it was for Johnny Reb. But of course
we know who won.

Re: Reference Material
Well the marines did have the immediate disadvantage of not being able to fire a shot.... though I doubt the next incursion would be on a fusion reactor..... still though, Aliens tore them to pieces..... a lot like how were gonna tear some monkey tribals into pieces

Re: Reference Material
I apologize for resurrecting this thread, but the topic did draw my attention. I tend to like each version of Aliens, except the Theatrical version which did cut down on quite a lot of what would have made the story more detailed and as to how the facehuggers managed to get into Hadley's Hope. I know, the explaining from the Aliens Wiki and to a degree in the film that several colonists were found with facehuggers attached.
One of the reasons why the Sulaco's detachment had such a difficult time in dealing with the Xenomorphs, even in the Control Center, had been that the Company's representative Burke had arranged for the inexperienced Lieutenant Goreman(sp) to be placed in charge whlie giving Goreman(sp) orders to keep the Xenomporh specimens alive.
The entire film had been approached with a Vietnam-feel where decisions made outside the military overruled those made within the military. It was what Cameron had wanted to do with it. I'm sure if there had been a follow up on Aliens (directly and not the Alien 3) or a future follow up (if one is in the works) that the Colonial Marines would be hopefully better prepared.

One of my favourite line of dialogue is when Ripley asks the Company Reps at the Board of Inquiry. "Have I.Q.'s dropped sharply while I was away?"
Love using that in every day life when a stupid decision is made. I also love it when you get smiles of recognition from people!
