2179 AD 25th August
Location: CSC Sector, Crysalis, Old Mines
23.58 hours local time
It had been exactly five hours and fifty-eight minutes since they set down on this god forsaken planet located in the ass end of space. Now they had lost a comrade and friend, taken a prisoner and collected three boxes with god knew what in them. The Marines faces were grim and seemed to be red masks of stone in the red hue from the emergency lightning in the APCs crew compartment.
The turbines whined as the APC accelerated once they struck the road. The constant bumping, rattling and shaking changed into a rythmic thump from the edges in the concrete slates that made the road towards the mines. Cpl Silvanus body laid limp on the floor of the APC - All resurrection attempts had been pointless, his heart had been completely destroyed. He had no more than fifteen seconds to live after the round struck him, not even the best of surgeons could have saved him. Still it felt bitter and unfair. They had been so close to a flawless mission, get in, get the shit and get out. Clean and smooth, everone gets to come home. At least they had sold Silvanus dearly, they had at least taken out five or six rebels and two corporates.
The APC started to de-accelerate and slowly came to a halt. The sliding door opened and the Marines filed out, stepping over Silvanus, and entered into the chilly night once more. The wind was fierce here out on the plains as it threw itself agains the jagged contours of the mountains behind them. Pvt Patch stayed in the APC watching the Corporate Prisoner they knew by the name of Amanda. The sweaty Marines froze as they stepped out but after only a few moments the distant sound of a descending dropship could be heard, a faint whining reaching to a roaring crescendo as it approached. It went in blacked out, no landing lights on. The dropship set down some fifty meters away, whipping dust and particles around it as it slowly settled on the ground.
The ramp dropped and Lt Andersson, one crewman and two Marines stepped out. "Good you could make it! Did You bring the containers?" Lt Anderson shouted trying to be heard over the still running turbines of the Dropship

Sixtus felt defeated, as though it didn't matter what he did, the old man in the cloak with the scythe always won. When he realized what he was digging through, he became very quiet as Silvanus's vitals went flat and stayed there. The medic became very quiet as he gently pulled out the IVs and removed the forceps. Disposing of the medical equipment, Quinn put his stuff back together into it's pouch.
Closing Silvanus's eyes, Quinn also put the man's armor back on. Removing the stretcher from his case, he pulled the Marine onto it. Sixtus gently took the man's arms and folded them across his chest.
Once finished, Sixtus pulled down the driver's pulse rifle, he reloaded it with one of his own magazines. He really hadn't used up much ammunition in the fight.
Returning the weapon to the rack, the medic sat on the floor with his back to a wall. His pulse rifle standing on it's butt in front of him, he leaned his head against it, his helmet clanking against the metal. He hadn't said a word.

patch felt dejected, he may not have been the units first line medic but he knew his shit and this sucked.
Quinn looked really pissed but calmly professional as he packed up his kit, patch rapid chemically sterilized the non disposable stuff and passed it back to him. he had not done a tour with the other medic before and although he had already assessed his skills as good, he was not sure how he would take the death of a long serving member of the squad.
patch nodded to the marine that had been watching the prisoner " I'll take her again mate" he said and continued his guard duty.
they had stopped and patch let the others disembark before he filed off the APC with his charge still at gun point. "don't do anything foolish now, it would be a shame to have to carry two bodies onto the drop ship." patch reminded Amanda just in case she was thinking he might be distracted.
as he approached the marines grouped together he spoke to the new squad co, "can someone stay with Silvanus on the APC as it loads then move him to medical when we get up to the ship patch asked, "I'm kinda busy and i don't think quinn is up for it at the moment"
patch then turned back to the business at hand he would have time to grieve and debrief later now he needed to get his prisoner up to command and discharge this duty....cos it really stank....bloody corporations

"No. I'll do it." Quinn said quietly without looking up, let alone moving. His voice was hoarse and sounded very much like a man on his last emotional legs. "I'll stay with him."
Overall, it sounded like Sixtus just had a really bad day.

As he passed the body, Jacob stopped and knelt down. He deftly relieved the body of all munitions and dumped them in the back of the APC.
Looking at Quinn he noticed how the marine was looking...
"He was dead before he hit the floor, and before you could do anything to save him. I've seen it happen more times than I care to think...You save your grief for the ones that go away crippled in body or mind, they're the ones most deserving of your sadness!"
Lighting a cigarette he nudged the body's foot with his
"In our trade a death like that is the best we can ask for..."
Trailing off he stood by the body, smoking his cigarette
"I'll help carry the stretcher, I was his sarge, I feel it's kind of a duty..."
Sinking into silence he leant against eh APC and continued to smoke

"Yes ma'am we have brought the containers" Kurosaki said to Anderson. "They are intact" Kurosaki added. He turned and slung his PRC-252 radio over his shoulder. He then turned and said, "Let's get on the dropship."

Simovic stepped over Silvanus' body and opened the APC door the dust whipping into his eyes. Tears streamed out of them partly because of the dust partly because of his buddies death. However he knew now was not a time to grieve, they still had a job to do. He looked over at the dropship which had now touched down onto the barren landscape.

"Yeah we got the containers, a prisoner and a dead Marine too".
Simovic then turned to the men gathered near the APC. "Remember we're still potentially in a war zone here. 2nd Squad I want you to go out and secure the perimeter. 1st Squad stay in the APC with the prisoner and containers. Pvt Morse can then drive the APC straight into the dropship".
Simovic reloaded his rifle and moved out with 2nd Squad.

Through all this Windrider just quietly walked out of the APC pretty stone faced. He wasn't showing any emotion. After all this just a cold chill went over his body. Something wasn't sitting right with him. The in and out of the mission. The way things just didn't seem to go according to plan. Something was amiss and he felt it...felt it in his bones. An evil was coming...a large evil.

Erik looked over to his Squad Leader and said "Hey Cpl Pitt Is 4th Squad staying on board the APC?"
Erik checked his Pulse rifle since he wasn't needed to operate the APC's heavy weapons at the moment but he kept an eye out on the readouts for the sensors. The rifle was just as he remembered leaving it. Fully loaded, set on safe and burst mode. The stock was inboard for easier manipulation within the APC's slightly cramped quarters. He left it slid back to hanging from it's shoulder strap, within easy reach. And waited for Cpl Pitt to give the word as to what 4th was gooding to do or needed to do.
"Hey Morse, I got a bad feeling about this. We lost one of our own and I don't think its ending here".

Morse flicked the switch controlling the aft-cooling vent releasing the current heat that was building in the engine. It wasn't building up much, but it was good to keep it as low as possble. He heard the Sergeant mention that he was to drive the APC onto the dropship. Then he heard Erik again.
I like to think that it don't matter we gotta live through it one way or another. Worryins a bad use of imagination Erik, ya gotta stay flexible, cus flexible people don't bend. Morse replied. He continued staring out the front of the window at the Dropship waiting till he knew what everyone was doing.

He was mainly hopping that an explosive shell wouldn't come rainin down on the dropship or the APC while they were sittin there.

"
Roger that. Second squad, let's move out. Secure perimeter. When we are called back, Quinn goes back into the dropship first"

Quinn gave an sideways look at Honeysett. He was saved from making a retort by Simovic. He wasn't shaken up about the death of the Marine, it was that it was the second person today that died because he couldn't help him. He felt useless above all things.
"Up and moving Corporal." Sixtus said as a confirmation and stood up, his hands doing an automatic check of his weapon. Stepping out into the biting cold wind, he walked out to forty feet beyond the APC to stand guard. Looking for a position to give him a good vantage point, he made his way towards it.

"Just so you know another Marine topped off your PR for you Morse" Erik replied. "And I still got a feeling but I will bend instead of break, Adapt and overcome as my DI would say".
