Upcoming changes to USCM

Post by Nick » Mon Aug 08, 2011 7:19 pm

There are some changes coming to USCM as of next campaign.

I will make a new character generation methord, using arch-types instead - To make it faster to generate a new character. A new character can then be modified freely after the first mission after your liking.

The arch-types will be Smartgunner, Rifleman, Comtech, Medic etc.

Character generation will be simple point and click - the goal is less than 10 minutes from start to upload.

The missions will also be much shorter from now as they have a tendency to bog down after a dozen or so turns. New missions will be around 10 turns long - I say around because there may or may not be an extra turn thrown in.

Thoughts?

Yeah I felt that I had to do something about our dwindling join numbers. Better to make it easy to join game, get them hooked and then they can alter their characters.

This project is rather huge though as it will require quite some programming on my part and I am restricted to laptop only at this moment - which making typing profusive ammounts of text painful.

The second part of the suggestions is making missions shorter and more to the point. I will also make try to be more frequent with the postings to get the turns to lift a bit more - But that is a promise I probably will not be able to hold as I have much other things on my agenda.

Anyhow this is what is upcoming in the semi-near future.

Shorter missions sound good to me. I'd say set the top limit to fifteen turns though, as ten turns isn't much to squeeze in a good solid mission.

And if you need help on the programming front, I have quite a few friends who are programmers, and one of them might be able to donate some time. What language are you using?

Hey thanks for the offer!

15 sounds ok for me. I am mainly using ready solutions such as phpbb and joomla. I then use mods on these to get what I want.

Ah, good to know. Have fun there!

Will you be able to wrap up the current mission from there, or will you be incommunicado?

Been working on a few today.

I don't know when they will be in place - A few things didn't end up the way I wanted today, so I had to backtrack quite a bit just now.

I take it our current character will not be affected?

In the interest of making it easier to join, you might consider a 'Boot' thread where new players can do some kind of RP (like taking their characters through boot-camp like exersises) without having to wait for a new mission to start.

We did that for a while, but it requires someone who is willing to run it. I suppose I could do it, if it would get more people in here.
