Anybody interested in a Posleen campaign?

Well I'm still working on my idea for an Alien Invasion game but I really want to play a earth invasion type game so I have chosen to run a Legacy of the Aldenata Campaign based in Australia.

I'm still working up the details but the basic premise is that earth is facing successive waves of attack and each country is trying to hold out in the face of the Posleen threat as best they can.  Character types will probably be confined to Australian combat units, American combat units, Australian Allied forces (possibly New Zealand troops, not sure who else the Aussies are allied with) and Australian Civilians (which I am going to start calling 'Snacks').

Haven't decided on what game system we are going to use, we need one that can handle swarm based combat, but people will need to have several characters as this is going to be a meat grinder of a campaign as the Posleen literally eat anything in their path.

If you've got any suggestions then sing out.

Oh and Nick I'm inviting you first of all!  I hope you are getting a tan in Thailand!

I would have fun playing...almost seems like you should use a warhammer/necromunda style system if you are talking multiple characters and base it on a unit/squad that one would control?

Then if one or two go down you get rookies and as u keep them u gain xp with them...just a thought.

I was thinking about that exowolf and we might base it around characters controlling a squad or unit.  Let me have a little think on the best way to do it and I'll get back to you.

A Japanese unit might not work as it's unlikely that Australia would ask for their help and Japan would need all their troops to defend their own country, however an Australian Citizens Japanese unit may just work.

Maybe a Japanese unit was training near the area when the aliens attacked?

Possibly although Earth has been preparing for the first wave for at least 5 years before it arrives so what they are doing training in Australia before a horde of man eating aliens arrive is interesting to say the least.

I could accept a Japanese naval presence maybe, does Japan have naval infatry?

A Marines equivelent? yeah they do. Sasebo Special Landing Force 8, i believe. it is the same unit name as the wwii guys who fought on tarawa, but obviously not the same unit (Only 16 out of the four thousand survived that battle.)

Ok I've been reading all the old Posleen books and trying to figure out the best place to hold this game.  Now I've got a question for the Australian based players on this forum, are there any mountain ranges in Australia that could be used as a defensive line?  Cause the Posleen will go through most of the cities on the coasts like a hot knife through butter.

tpc - yeah there will be New Zealand troops in game, and yep you can control a section if you want.

Bullet42 - I can see a US Marines or Force Recon unit being there, although most of those guys are tapped to go into the ACS (Armoured Combat Suits) units so they may be allowed but with no suits to draw on and American replacements will be slow to come by.

My plan is to allow each character to be the Corporal of a section in a platoon.  A section is about 10 people strong.  You'll be able to issue orders to your squad but it'll depend on how well trained and experienced they are as to whether or not they'll do what you say.

The Australian army is armed with Steyrs but those weapons probably won't cut it with the Posleen as they are the size of horses and bred to fight.  So the Australian army will have to be rearme with something else, anybody got any suggestions?

Not really, I mean, it's not that hard to go around and they're not that big here anyway.

Ok then I'll just arbitarily base it in one of the cities.  How about Adelaide?

I don't mind for reinforcements taking long. U.S. Marines don't die without permission.

That's the spirit Bullet!  Now then I'm going to have to do some work on this and have it ready for next week.

So who's in and what unit do you want to be part of?

I can't guarantee that you'll get it but I'll definitely give it some consideration.

Currently units can be from -

Australian Defence Forces
New Zealand Defence Forces
I'll consider anything else on a case by case basis.
