I'm not saying I'm a badass or anything, I just simply fight so I can run away or survive. I know bits an pieces that keep me alive in a fight.Obi wrote:You need to get a montage going.

Re: Boxing
Yeah nothing to strive for. Uncomfortable, sweaty and you always seem to strain or twist some joint in the process - I must be getting old

Re: Boxing
However, once we begin sparring/fighting, id like to find out if I have a glass jaw or not...
Re: Boxing
Nah Nick, that's what happens when your muscles go from relaxed to moving incredibly fast and hard with no warm-up in-between.

@ Apachater: I used to live in a rough neighborhood-kinda had to learn
@ Quinn: Ditto that-sudden, stressful movement can leavy sore after a fight-or in my case after a fight then running away-yeah I fight to run away. Rather not die today.
Guess that kinda makes me a coward.

Re: Boxing
Makes you smart. A coward is someone who is afraid of fighting. A martial artist is someone who doesn't want to fight, but will if needs be.
As Gichin Funakoshi said, "Win the fight without fighting."

Re: Boxing
Last week I got into a one on one with a russian theif in a staircaise, we tumbled down and my wrist almost snapped. Thankfully he was not a good fighter and I also cheated with pepperspray during the fight - I also got help from other plainclothes within a minute.
Was I scared? Yes, but being scared is not something negative. Being scared activates your body. You get faster, more damage resilient and stronger when you are scared. As long as you are not terrified being scared can be utilized to your advantage.
But if I had met that russian on a free day I would have walked the other way. I would never enter a fight on free will without my weapons and body armor - despite my close combat training. Suddenly there is a knife and then you are staring into the light of eternity.
Does that make me a coward? I think that makes me smart, just as Quinn said.

Re: Boxing
I always thought the resliance was me being stubbron. People have beaten me to a pulp-yet I can always seem to return the favor.
Though speaking of cheating-I've always been a big fan of cheap shots. Reminds me of the time some asshole jumped me-busted me in the knee-been limping ever since. However, he learned just why I find trash can lids so beautiful.

Hey, in a street fight, anything goes. Fight dirty, use cheap shots. Just get out of it alive and as intact as possible.

Re: Boxing
I boxed for years when I was a wee lad. Max is on the money, as is Nick. Did anyone mention that you should always move, and try to limit the up and down bobbing of the body that movie boxers always do? It gives you a cadence, which makes you easier to read, which you will pay for dearly. As far as glass jaws go; everyone has them. Just keep your chin down. And don't forget what Iron Mike said: "Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth."
