New players/readers!
Re: New players/readers!
In response to Bishop being able to crawl down an ODN Junction to the relay antenna, that's all about perseverance. I imagine an Android -- any android, would have perseverance on their side since they run on batteries instead of lactic acid like a human. That is one thing I can understand and you are right; however, strength is slightly different.
As for someone pulling an Androids behavioral inhibitor out.. Geez... What a cowardice thing for someone to do, use a machine to do a Human's job
There are other reasons I want to play an Android... I don't like the thought of violence against other Humans. (Another reason I would rather work to aid in Xenomorph research/etc., instead of shooting at anything on a regular basis-or anyone, for that matter. )
I was raised a very -- hippie type of person I suppose. Very anti-violence. Being an Android incapable of doing such things as harming a human being, kinda gives me a warm fuzzy as a writer. It's -- perfect for me. But yes, I'm not sure what Nick's nickname is in this forum, so I guess I should wait for a reply.
I'm not a debater, so don't worry. I'm not trying to 1-up anyone (I hate it when people play that game), but I always try and be helpful to those that help me out (you!), so I like to converse and share ideas whenever I get the chance.

Nicks nickname's nick!
The next mission will be underway before we will get boot camp up and running so that will not be a problem.
When it comes to playing an android I know we've had androids before as players, and as long as You are willing to play it to the full extent of the role it is ok by me - They are by nature very different and perhaps harder to play than an ordinary grunt.
Make up the details of Your android character with Dugan and he will update the roster accordingly.

Re: New players/readers!
I'm sure I'll be able to play a good droid character. Thank you for allowing me the chance to try. I come from RPG's where there are no dice rules and each writer has to limit their character to a believable degree in order to not seem like a 'power-player', etc., so I understand the initial worry about an android character.
Like in the previous post, I really only feel that the only two things that a common Android would have over a Human being would probably be endurance and the ability to be ripped to shreds and still keep your soul intact (continue living).
But, in my understanding, I doubt a company like Weyland Yutani would bother buying back their loaned droid just to rebuild it. We all know where my character would go if it ends up torn in half (the trash), therefore as a character I have to think about personal well-being just as much as any human being.
In otherwords -- "I may be synthetic, but I'm not stupid." Bishop said it best in "Aliens".
If there is one thing that stays constant, it's corporate greed.
In the strength department, I just don't feel as if several pounds per square inch of hydraulic fluid being pumped into synthetic calcial tissue could ever match up to the allmighty Human muscle.
I'll work out a profile tonight for my character. If anyone has any hints or advice as to what I should add into the profile, please drop me a line and post in here. I can use all the help I can get because I've never played a "point" or turn/based game before. I'm not entirely sure what to expect.
I'm coming at this from a "writers" point of view, so I'm guessing (and hoping) that most of this is done in a literary sense as well as a game style.
I'll be on later tonight to check back on these posts while I work on the character.
Once again,
Thank you so much for the oppurtunity.
Sincerely,
-Tiffany (AKA Jean, your new and loyal Android)

Re: New players/readers!
I noticed a new thread in the "Gothic Serpant Campaign" was opened where they arrived at Earth. Is this where I should start posting? A few conversations with anyone from the group over MSN would help me greatly. I also have AIM if anyone is interested. If you click on my name, I should have it all there for you to contact me, both MSN and AIM names.
I'm eager to jump in now that we're at Earth. I'm just wanting to make sure I know how to do the right thing and not mess anything up.

Re: New players/readers!
Hi All, Caparzo here. While I am familiar with tabletop roleplaying this version is a first for me. Like most here I am a diehard Colonial Marine nut and have wanted to play a game about them for a long time. My vision for my character is a grunt who has some techie skills but is overall a just a basic groundpounder. Having met Jean and read her amazing character background and the recent turns on the latest campaign I will admit to being a bit intimidated about being creative enough.
Anyway Nice to be here and I am looking forward to playing with you people.

Re: New players/readers!
How do we start? I hate to keep bugging everyone about it. I'm eager to jump in and learn how to do this. I noticed the arrival at Earth in the story. I don't want to miss the perfect time to join the group. I'm sure Caparzo feels the same way.

You need to tell me what skills you want first.

Re: New players/readers!
I thought that the whole thing I wrote up earlier was my skills.
I've done literary only RPG's before; this is the first one where it's based within numbers. With only time-delayed help, it's going to take longer for me to understand. The rules are a little shakey for me. I'm trying to understand it and I've read your past mission. I'm still trying to understand how to grasp what it is that you do to move the story forward in terms of actions/etc.
Like, for instance. This situation. I wasn't aware that I needed to add more skills, or a different kind of skills. If you could let me know where I need to go to find the skills that I need to add for my character, that would be great. I would love to get involved in the story today, hopfully.
If there is something else I need to do, let me know please. I'm trying to get to where I can join you as soon as possible and contribute. I added everyone on the members with MSN, to my list... But not many people here seem to use messengers. I could learn so much more with a few chat's over a -- chatroom or something. I thought I put everything I needed in, but this is the first game of this type I've participated in.Jean wrote: I'm not too sure which exact sets of skills I had so I'll just start it from scratch and put it here. Thanks for your help.

Since I have a huge fascination with Isaac Asimov's works, this might explain why I chose these attributes to my character which I plan on being an Android like Bishiop/etc.
I was also wondering if we can post literary character profiles somewhere? Or do we just forego that jump in? lol, I guess I'll learn as I go. Thank you all so much for your help.

As a Synthetic you get 8 skills at Expert rating and the rest at Certifed (barring Gun Combat which is Untrained). I'll send you something which maybe useful check your PM's.

Re: New players/readers!
Ah, okay.. Now I understand a little bit more. I'm reading the Colonial Marine Corps RPG book that was sent to me (thank you!) and it's filled with great information too!
I'll be re-working my character sheet. Sorry for the delay; I didn't understand that I had to change everything around for my character if she were to be an Android. I'll get to work on that right away.
The RPG book said that I needed Six Sided Dice? Where do I find a die with six sides?

Ok I'll update the roster with this. The only change is that Hand to Hand will have to be Untrained as its a combat skill.

Re: New players/readers!
I really appriciate all the help that you have given me; everyone.
Some people went out of the way to e-mail me an entire scanned booklet in pdf format to help me out with the game, others conversed with me on PM, and some even worked with me every inch of the way throughout the forums to go as far as to update information even when I got something wrong or incorrect.
This totally add's to the enjoyment of being here. Thank you, everyone.
Oh, Dugan, change anything you wish. I trust you to do whatever works best. Thanks for helping me.
I'm also regretting to ask yet another question of you all. I'm sorry. I hope I'm not being a pain. But -- There is no "Reply" button in the campaign. I was trying to post my first introduction since some are at Gateway Station now, but I only have the option to read the posts (and they are very good posts; you all are a bunch of great writers), but I can't reply to them.
Is this something that's an accident, or is there something I still need to do in order to get into the literature with the rest of you?
