Altair smiled at his friend just as he climbed in to the drop ship. Taking a seat and fastening the belts, the boy pulled at them several times to make sure they were sitting correctly and didn’t hurt at the shoulders. The sound of the engines was much more quite inside the drop ship and the feeling of the vibrations they sent through the body was surprisingly comforting. The boy was anxious to be off. At boot camp they had a simulation of the drop ship, so the recruits knew what to expect on their first real flight. The simulation was also useful to teach the recruits as to what to do and expect when there was an emergency situation. Altair loved computer games and simulations so he was looking forward to try out the real thing. The engines roared and the ship was off.

The boy was a little disappointed, he had tried every simulation he cold find when he was back at home and the money his family had gave him an opportunity to try those simulations more than once. The instructors at the boot camp said that the flight in the real drop ship would be much more dangerous and thrilling but the boy was beginning to have second thoughts about that. Other marines it seemed were taking it more seriously, except for the veterans, those sat quietly, looking bored to say the least. Turbulence they encountered while entering the planet’s atmosphere was the only excitement the boy got out of the flight, as the ship touched down at the landing site. Quietly transferring to the APC along with the other marines Altair signed, suddenly realizing that he was looking to this trip, a trip that that turned out to be a disappointment.
"Konterran back on the APC and drive it to the front of that building. Park it so the weapons point out and we can leave in a hurry if necessary. Drive slow cause Second Squad going to escort you."
Altair was about to exit the APC when he hear the order, a bit surprised the boy nodded.

“Understood S…â€

Noticing the platoon moving out onto the parade ground. Clicking on to the general com. "Alexander I am going to find out about this. Why don't you take that perimeter sweep I was talking about? " Walking over to the CO of this group I nod to them. "Greetings to you sir thought I come over an thank you for letting us rest up in your barracks there. But can I ask if you guys are here what are we doing here?" Having left his mic on so everyone can hear this conversation. Jones stands there relaxed stance with the rifle across his chest under his folded arms. But those watching can tell he stand a in a firing position. All he has to do is twist his upper body to bring his rifle in line with this guy.

The marines of the Delta Dogs could be seen traveling to the barracks that they would be occupying. Also evident was a small platoon of the security guards filing out of the said barracks and falling into parade rest before the building in the parade clearing.
Joe passed by the security detail and entered into the barracks. It wasn’t fancy. They never were, but it was a shelter with beds which was often the most he could hope for.

“This’ll do, huh? Well… Jones recommended I get up on the roof. So I guess that’s where I’m headed.â€

"alright boys lets set up sleeping areas and get some food in us" Con said to his platoon motioning them over together.

Con quickly climbed to the roof after Joe and moved next to him whispering in his ear: "Hey keep an eye on everything, including that security detail and report to me later, when it gets abit darker I'm gonna go have a look around so I may need a distraction, we will talk more later"

Confused like always Ronald followed those he was meant to follow, he took off his helmet for a brief second and rubbed his hair before he put on it again, he also wiped his nose and then wiped his hand off on his shirt. He sighed a bit and licked his teeth, thinking on a girl magazine he had read a few years ago, he wondered if he could get his hands on it again.

Tarik scanned the area as Altair backed in the APC. Forget about it.. Tarik had never had hallucinations before, never experimenting with drugs or recieving any concussions. He couldn't explain it. He'd ask Altair when he had a chance, his old corpsman buddy might know...

"What are your mission requirements here? If you don't mind me asking, I'd prefer to have the objectives known beforehand so we can accommodate for them rather than have things sprung on us when we can't prepare as fully for them." Looking at the hologram Jacob was impressed that it had showed the platoon's movements..."Have you seen any odd goings on using this Satellite imagery, or has it looked quiet all the time? Also is it OK to smoke in here?" Cracking his knuckles, he coughed lightly and waited to see what more information might emerge.

Brooke nodded yes to the question concerning the smoking, “Please by all means be my guest, Sergeant Honeysett. As far as the objectives go,â€

Pale Rider wrote: When I was a kid, I had an ant farm. Of course, so did a lot of other kids . . . There's something fascinating about ants. The way they go about their loves, their instinctive organization, their strength and persistence. It was always neat, watching them through the plastic.
I never figured there'd be payback for every time I upended the farm to see 'em dig. A payback with interest.
An anthill sure looks different from the inside. Not at all like any ant farm.
Sparking up, Jacob took a drag or two before hearing this information.

He blanched...going considerably whiter than usual.

"I know what that means, I think the LT can guess too...we've been sworn to secrecy, so I'm disclosing jack shit unless the LT decides to...but suffice it to say, I want this weapons free...and I want as much support as possible - nobody green either, bad enough that only four in our platoon know what we're running into - and one of those guys is cracked." He thought of Green, the friendly giant - and how withdrawn he'd become since that mission...

He may have been the lowest ranking person present, but he tried to put as much authority into his voice as possible.

Then, leaning in to the LT. Col. he whispered lightly, Grinning he stood back and awaited the LTs response...

Morrison turned pale.

Anthill that looks different from the inside- that could mean those bugs. Morrison thought.
Palerider wrote:"All my resources are available to you..."
"Thank you for the info. My men will get moving within the hour. I want continuous updates regarding the satellite imagery, and if you can spare me a man or two that knows the area that would be great...." Morrison paused to fish out a lump of dip from his mouth and toss it in the trashbin "I'd like to keep part of the landingsite reserved for our dropships, if you don't mind?"

When Morrison lifted his hand to the radiocontrol, he could see that it was trembling slightly: "Delta Dogs- listen up! I want you guys loaded and ready to go within forty-five mikes, got that? And break out that wintergear- looks like we're gonna be needing it!"

He then turned to Honeysett; "I know that we may be having the same suspicion here, smiles..." Morrison paused to put some dip in, "and to answer your question- there's no fucking way I will tolerate any restrains on ordinance. Now go break the news to Con and Green- but go easy on the big oaf. I'll tell Jones myself."

"Right you are boss!" Jacob grinned widely and looked at the LT. Colenol and grinning "I'm sure you'll know where you can find me if you'd be so kind as to oblige" he turned on his heel and strolled out of the place.

Nearing the encampment, he didn't bother to go in search of Con and Green, he stood in front of the building and hollered

"Con, Ron, come here - I've got news for your ears only! any other marine accompanying them can expect to be sent away with a bullet!"

Waiting for them to turn up Jacob finished off his cigarette. Grinding it out with his foot he watched them approach and stand to...

"Alright, come in close guys...I've got some bad news, and I don't quite know how to say it so...well...Con, your first mission with the eights - remember what we bumped into there, I don't think any of us ever forgot, odds are we'll be facing them again here judging by reports."

"Green, you were shook up pretty bad by those creatures last time round, you think you'll be able to go toe to claw with 'em again?"

"Not a word to the rest of the platoon until the LT briefs us, we swore pacts remember - and those slips of paper are worth more than your life to the brass...breach 'em and I'll be singing at your funeral! And I'm a fuckin' awful singer, I can tell you that." Grinning weakly, Jacob stood back and then sat on the ground, he placed his head in his hands and sat still momentarily.

When he looked up he seemed suddenly more drawn and and pale...this mission was playing havoc with his personal deamons - his paranoia that there was someone after his dogtags, just wanted to write the letters KIA after his name. Why him, what had he done in his life to warrant this karma? Sure there'd been the early teenage times of excess, drink...drugs...but who hadn't had them?

Gritting his teeth Jacob stood up and lit a cigarette, inhaling deeply and holding the smoke in - he looked up at the sky and exhaled. Finding an inner resolve. It was his job to die - why not here?

"Con, Green, let it be known that while on op I'm going to run an incredibly tight ship - most of our platoon are fresh meat, and if they slip up it could mean not only their life - but more crucially to me - my life! Don't be surprised if I'm not my normal self on that mission..."

"By all means, feel free to keep them parked in the northern annex of the site. Now if you don't mind I need to see to it that my men are ready to travel with your men." He turned to leave, but stopped when Honeysett leaned into him and whispered something in his ear. Turning to the sergeant he looked him dead in the eyes, "Lt. Morrison, please allow me the privelage to meet with your sergeant before you leave on your mission. It seems we need to discuss something in detail."

"Go wrong?" Tarik said mockingly " You're starting to sound like all these other hens kiddo, we haven't even had a decent briefing and your expecting the worst aren’t you?" Tarik looked away from Altair disappointed in his friend's play it safe attitude. Altair was right though, always expect the worst, stay on your toes Tarik.
Altair smiled. Indeed he was a bit edgy but this was his first mission and first experience as a marine. Maybe after a few missions he would be ok but right now he was very cautious. The boy remembered the saying he heard from his mother “Better to be safe than sorryâ€

On hearing this all color slowly drained form Con's face, his breathing became short and shallow and he felt like he was going to faint.
"Listen Jacob" he said trying to keep his voice steady "i want to know everything you know about this whole subject. I am not going anywhere unprepared like we have som many othr times."

"LT'll brief us in full Con, but there have been 1000 people gone missing due to these 'incursions' There's been found scrawling on the walls about ants nests and how it's like being inside an ants nest in places...remember those tunnels - the black casing, everything" Said Jacob.

"Not a word to the other marines, just mention 1000 people missing and reports of...bloody close quarters combat with an enemy we're familiar with...known for ruthlessness, don't mention they aint human...the LT will be the one who decides whether the poor bastards in our platoon are going to find out the hard or harder way..."
