Turn 13 Rifle 2

Post by Nick » Mon Feb 26, 2007 10:10 am

Date: 17th August, 2080AD, 2100 UT
Location: Barnard's Star, PT-554, The dropship
Operation: Training Op
Mission timer: 04:20

The Dropship hovered over the crashed tower, searching for survivors. Darkness now enshrouded the whole planet and Carson, the dropship Pilot, had to rely on FLIR (Forward Looking Infra Red) to see anything through the inky black that surrounded them.

Thick droplets of water and violent gushes of wind tore in the dropship that bucked and heaved from the stormy winds.

David Manny, the co-pilot turned with a worried face towards Lt Vincent that stood in the entrance to the cockpit.

"Sir...looks like we have a rather major storm coming our way"

At the distant horizon to the northeast the sky flickered like a stroboscope from the many lightning strikes.

"We have 30minutes before the storm is here...not sure if we can make it out by then" Carson said, concentrating on holding the ship steady in the air.

Nodding into his headset, Morrison had a troubled look on his face as he walked up to the LT.

"Vincent- seems like first and reccie have found some kind of cave system, that they are currently in. They don't really seem sure to as where they are." he spat some dip at the floor "maybe if the flyers here can locate an exit, me and Wolf can descend with some rope and help them get to the surface, load up, and get the fuck off this dustbowl in under thirty mikes?"

Morrison then walked back deeper into the belly of the dropship, to where the remnants of second squad was sprawled out. The red light of the dropship made the scene even more depressing then it already was.

"Bren- how are they doing? Are they stable?" he tried to keep a steady voice, but Morrison had lost more then his fair share of marines during his time as a squaddie- and the stress of this was starting to show.

"Wolf, we might have to go down to the surface to help the rest of the platoon to locate and use an exit- they're currently stuck underground. Are you up for that?"

Eileen nodded. There didn't seem to be much else they could do.

"Carsson, I need you to fly a search pattern on a 1 kilometre radius centred on the tower. We're looking for any signs of an entrance to a subterranean system," Eileen looked out of the cockpit window at the dense forest below and grunted, "If you can key the sensors to look for that do it. We'll be lucky to spot anything through the vegetation."

Morrison just nodded in response, not caring if the LT could see him or not.

He then squatted down by the wounded men's gear, and took the two magazines.

Spitting on the deck, he started to mentally prepare himself to go out into the dark jungle again.
