Turn 10 Recon/Rifle 1

Post by Nick » Wed Feb 07, 2007 7:54 pm

Date: 17th August, 2080AD, 2100 UT
Location: Barnard's Star, PT-554, Lookout tower
Operation: Training Op
Mission timer: 04:08:30

Bojan pressed the open button as per requested by Pale Rider. At first nothing happened, then suddenly a hissing noise was heard. The center part of the hatch slid aside and then moments later the hatch started to open. One door sliding in each direction with a soft rumble. Beneath the hatch a ladder led down twenty feet below and then onwards into a wide corridor cut into the rock of the mountain.

Suddenly there was commotion at the door. A huge flame exploded into the tower, the searing heat was enornmous and the flame produced a roar as it expanded into the tower. The licking flame then disappeared and several objects where thrown into the tower. Small, ball shaped objects. Quite similar to grenades!

Firing a few short bursts through the doorway as the flame poured through it Nick watched the small round objects bounce inside with a sick feeling in his stomach.

"Everybody move to the hatch or grab some cover! Quickly marines before those grenades go off!" said Nick trying to keep his voice calm even though he felt fear grip him.

The fear tried to overcome him but he held it at bay by focusing on the problem at hand. He had to get his marines out of this mess and the best way to do that was through the hatch.

Dar was halfway towards the hatch, intending to help Eagle, when the flame burst poured in. With the flames quickly streaking towards him, Dar slammed his combat knife back in his back sheath and dove towards the rapidly opening hatch. Dar had been point before for recon... and timing seemed to put him there with Eagle again. Without hesitation, he leapt into the now open hatch, and grabbed at the ladder sides, intending to try to slow his descent by using the vertical sides of the ladder.

Watching the flames lick through the window filled Jacob with immense panic, and watching the grenades roll in scared him further.

Still, as squad leader he couldn't be seen to be panicking, could he?

Moving to the hatch he bent to one knee and yelled "go, go, go! down the hole!"

Covering the door Jacob waited for the other marines to go down first, he was shit scared, but - uncharacteristically - he wasn't going to look after himself first. He was the leader - he didn't want his squad to think less of him for bolting, they mightn't respect his leadership.

Waiting for the other marines to go down Jacob became more and more nervous. Should he go and kick the grenades out, was there enough time? Probably not...they better not go off before he could go down.

How long was left on the fuses?

Questions buzzed through Jacob's mind. Still he was a marine, it was his job to die. If not now - somewhere else.

Sighing and controlling his breathing, Jacob reached and lit up a cigarette. If he was gonna die - he was gonna die not craving nicotine...

Bojan moved quickly down the ladder after Dar but trying to not injure himself or blokc up the hole. Things were not going too well and hopefully this ladder would lead somewhere good.

James sighed inwardly as he saw Green had frozen again. He raced toward the big galute and snatched himbackwards getting the man into gear, again Green was a walking automaton. He stopped and gave the marine a ringing blow to the head, "Green get your fat butt into gear." Turning he motioned for Jacob to get down the ladder. "Go one soldier, I still out rank you by a matter of one mission so get your chain smoking behind down the ladder," taking in the Sergeants looking him in the eyes," Sarge, get down the ladder yourself. We need a senior noncom down below to get things rolling. I'll make sure Green and the others get down or die trying."

He clicked on the radio and quickly addressed recon,"Recon, this is Beta calling in I am turning things over to Alpha at this time. Once we are all down below I will resume command until that time Alpha has the command."

"Papa Bravo this is November Five-Five, we request immediate assistance at our location. We are under massive enemy fire and could use any aerial or ground assault assistance available. We are turning Tunnel Rat, I repeat we are turning Tunnel Rat."

"Green lets, move marine if you like those pretty women waiting on the other side you'll get your behind in gear."

As the heat blasts followed by the volley of "balls" he started to move towards the hatch watching the others. He noticed Green not moving...

"Not a Martyr today big fella get moving!" Blackhawk grabbed Green's gear strap and started tugging on him to get to the hatch.

Thoughts of the days watching the ferrets go after the snakes in the holes. Now he's feelin like one of those snakes right now.

//*Thought grenades exploded after 5 seconds but oh well*

As soon someone tugged or shouted at Ronald he woke up and ran over to the others, following orders like usual. He didnt looked scared or anything, just awfully confused.

Seeing the hole int the ground Con began sprinting towards it, seeing the hatch as his only hope of survival. Tripping over some unknown object Con slid across the floor the last couple of meters and down the hole latching on to the hatch door. Taking a split second to look back through the flames at the dead assasain Con began descending the ladder following the rest of the marnies into the unknown depths.

Looking down Con was struck with shock "where the hell is Jacob" he screamed down the hole, Cursing he began climbing back up the ladder "Get down here Jacob" he yelled over the sound of flames

"If you insist..." Jacob didn't look back as he moved to scramble down the ladder, going as quick as possible "See you on the other side" he said with a grin, before he went down the hatch.

The explosion was unimaginable. The blast and heat from it was overwhelming. The Marines still climbing down the ladder was gripped by an invisible giant fist, picked up and violently slammed to the ground. A huge ball of flame licked the hatch and a hot cloud of smoke swept down into the tunnel. A petrid smell of burnt cordite stung in their noses.

With a rumble the hatch closed. The the two doors struck together with a resounding "thunk" that rolled down the corridor. Darkness engulfed the marines.
