Turn 10

Post by Nick » Wed Apr 19, 2006 2:23 pm

Pvt Bojan crossed the last two cables. The door motor activated and the door swung open - Just as the squadmembers of Second squad left the access pylon the first shots rang out on the lower deck.

Sgt Caden had not more than rounded the steel tube surrounding the access ladder on the lower deck when two almost simultaneous "bangs" was heard, one from the gun firing the other from the steel tube that was hit by the round two inches from his face. A needle sized shrapnel stung fiercly his chin and his ears rung madly from the loud noise. Instinctively he spun around and ducked back into cover. The shot had come from the airlock, where Captain Stephan stood with most of his upper body concealed - Just his arms and head where above the edge. Two more shots slammed into the steel tube each with a thick metal "plonk" as Pvt Green also came down the ladder.

Sgt Caden crouched down behind the ladder guard and focused on his drawn pistol. Slowly, the ringing began to fade from his ears as his cheek burned and dripped blood. Caden inched forward very slightly to give Pvt Green room to continue his descent. The sargeant gave a "halt" hand signal to L Cpl Steel and then opened the tactical comm channel:

"Chappel! It sounds like you made it out. The 'captain' is dug in near the airlock and has us pinned down. Make your way to the Access Ladder, pronto."

Caden took the chance to take a quick peak around the ladder guard. More shots rang out, denting the metal in places. Thank God for high-tensile steel... The synthetic seemed determined to go down fighting, and the corridor to the airlock looked like an invitation to death. We need to flank that S.O.B., but he might have similar plans with his friends... Caden reactivated the channel:

"Here's what we're gonna do. Green and I provide cover fire since we're already in the thick of it. Steel and Dufresne come on down and break right. Chappel, you send down your squad, three left, one right. We're gonna flank that asshole, but watch out for his buddies. They could be waiting for you."

Hang on, Pvt Shirak... We're comin' for ya'...

The door motor activated and the door swung open...
"Good job , Bojan. ..all right move out marines, watch for the 'trapper.. "
Fresh out of the container, squad two moved with a purpose.
Chappell, send down your squad, three left, one right...
After recieving the comm from Sgt.Caden , orders were given to each member, and Rednus un-clipped the saftey on his rifle in preparation for the move ahead.

"Where is the damn Navigator?"he mumbled to his squad.

"Mac Guire, Bojan and Carter...you're all too pretty to die" he smirked, and, with lightning speed allowed himself the 'consumption' of one more cigarrette.

" When we get down there, you three flank left, I'm gonna break right and accompany squad one..."

With that, squad two cautiously made their way across the second deck.

Before descending, Bojan removed one of his now no longer useful baton rounds. After landing he threw the round at the synthetic as an attempt to distract or confuse it although unlikely then sprinted to cover on the left.

Quickly Ronald stepped next to Sgt Caden and aimed with his smartgun towards the androd and fired a few rounds before he took cover and took a few deep breaths, looking down on Caden. "What is your orders sir"? Ronald said, looking quite confused about everthing.

Sgt Caden thrust his VP70 around the ladder guard just long enough to squeeze off a few rounds at Captain Stephan's approximate location. As anticipated, he was answered by more gunfire from the android. Pvt Bojan scaled down the Access Ladder and slipped by in a precious few seconds when the arti must have been reloading. I'm not taking the chance on checking...

Caden looked up the ladder, catching a glimpse of the other members of Squad 2 preparing to descend.

"Force the 'good' captain's head down with cover fire while the others get into position. While he's worried about us, they'll move around the sides and give him a little surprise."

Sgt Caden flashed a slight grin at Pvt Green. War is hell, but it sure is a thrill... His smile faded when he remembered that the ticket off of this trawler was occupied by hostiles. The Sergeant looked up and moved slightly back as another Marine began the climb down to the Engine Deck.

Private Green nodded a few times, waited for the android's turn to reload and then stepped forward and started firing against it, he shot in the short bursts as he was trained to and did his best to keep the android behind his cover. Ronald smiled and was for once happy, but still he kept in mind that one bullet could end his happiness and kept on as he was ordered.

"I love to be a marine he whispered for himself as the empty rounds hit the floor with a low metallic clang..."

The computer assisted targetting computer of Greens M56 quickly found the androids bobbing head and locked onto it. A one second burst at 1200 rounds per minute meant 20 bullets per second. The recoil-dampened stabilized articulator arm of the smartgun gave it an almost spooky precision giving the gun it was carrying extremely tight groupings - Even if firing fully automatic...

Greens M56 fired so fast it was hard to pick out the single rounds, its sound reminding much more of a buzzsaw than that of a machinegun. The sound was brutal, to say the least, and the sound inside the cramped ship from it firing could be felt in the chest as much as it could be heard.

Several shots struck Stephans head which instantly exploded from the brutal force of impact, completely disintegrating everything above his shoulders. Chunks of white goo, cables and other synthtic fluids flew back from the hatch into which Stephans body slumped down and dissappeared.

Suddenly, Green's smartgun went silent. Something's up... Green doesn't let off the trigger easy... Sgt Caden peeked around the ladder guard in time to see the remains of Cpt Stephan fall limp behind the synthetic's barricade. What was left of the android's head looked like smeared cottage cheese along the bulkhead. Yikes... I guess we won't be questioning that one... Figuring that the two teams had already begun to make their advance, Caden activated the comm:

"Chappel, Bojan; Green just waxed 'Mr. Roboto', but I want you to continue on with the plan. We need to find that navigator before he causes any trouble. Green and I will hold here for now, advising you on any hostile movement."

Sgt Caden flashed a 'thumbs up' sign to Pvt Green, congratulating him on the Section's first confirmed kill. He then made a series of motions indicating Green should watch the airlock and corridor ahead. The Sergeant removed the empty clip from his VP70 and inserted a full one, keeping an eye on the flanks and rear of their position for anything suspicious.
