The blast was enormous, even as the Marines had retreated into the equipment room they were almost knocked senseless. for a moment the air stood still, as if quivering. Then a split second later with a thunderous roar the several times higher pressurized atmosphere entered the ship. Equipment flew through the lightly green air in the violent gush of gas.

The countdown timer was drowned in the roaring wind and even before it started to calm down the Marines ran for the opening. The Engine section was quickly pressurized and the wind quickly stalled. Nick Steels makeshift helmet seemed to hold...he had simply put a helmet buble of similar design ontop his old suit collar, hastily running several lengths of duct tape around the connection which had almost fitted. He had also pressurized his suit heavily, he would need to spend a few days in the depressurization chamber onboard Costaguana but he would live...if they reached the Dropship in time.

All Bojans attempt to access the terminal had failed, and he had tried every concievable way. The main node must have been locked once self destruct was triggered.

Honeysett crashed into the open door of the APC, to exhausted to even manage himself inside he was dragged the last meter by helping hands. The half conscious Screaming Eagle was gently put down in the center of the APC, between the row of chairs - The horrible looking alien queens tale still impaling him. The APC started to roll as soon as Honeysett feet left the fine black gravel of the planet. Moments later they struck the landing ramp of the Dropship which immidiately started to ascend even as the ramp closed - Not standard procedure, but on the other hand running from a nuclear explosion wasn't either.

With a clonk and slight jerk the ramp locked in position the Drop Ship accelerated. It was mere moments until the ship was going to blow, would they make it?

Con leaned over to Green and started tapping him on the shoulder and murmuring "Come on. Come on..."

His vision swimming, Jacob breathed heavily, his lungs felt as if they were bursting. Jim might not be the biggest person, but sprinting with a dead weight like that would knacker anyone.

Gasping he struggled to catch his breath, and between sharp inhalations he asked "So, everyone OK?"

It didn't occur to Jacob that they might be caught in the blast, but it was probably better - he was blissful in his ignorance.

Looking at his stump of a finger he winced, now the adrenaline was leaving his body a dull thud of pain pulsed through his hand. Groaning he leaned back, resting his head against the wall of the dropship

"First thing I'm doing as soon as I'm out of this suit is have a cigarette...fuck, next time I'm gonna bring chewing tobacco if we're in space suits or on a stealth mission..."

finally catching his breath and regaining normal breathing Jacob looked around again...the seats where Pyro and Gagarin should have been were ominously empty - Jacob quickly sent up a silent prayer of thanks that his seat wasn't empty, and then whispered "RIP marines...shame your bodies weren't recovered, and a shame I didn't get a smile off either of you..."

Dar was one of the last marines through the new hole blown by Morrison's IED. He moved with a purpose, but also did his best to watch around the squad as they moved to the APC. Finally, all mobile marines were in the open, and Dar pulled himself inside, keeping watch for any pursuit. When it became clear they were not being pursued, he safed his weapon and racked it before jumping to the crash seat... wouldn't do to have the weapon kill someone while bouncing around...

Dar held on to the crash bar, and waited for the inevitable... how long did they have? He didn't have long to wait before that question was answered...

Morrison felt as if he had aged one-hundred years in the last few hours alone. He was tired, he stank, and his knee made sure to inform him that the painkillers had stopped working.
He also knew that they weren't safe yet, Eagle, Steel, Green and Smiles where in various states of disrepair; if the nuclear explosion didn't kill them all, these brave marines would still need to be taken care of but for now, he had done all he could. The platoon's fate was now in the hands of powers that he had no control over whatsoever.

Looking around him in the APC- he got filled with one single emotion: Pride.

"Easy Eights! Listen up!" Morrison barked in his radio. "When we get back to the 'Costa'- drinks are on me! That is all! Out!" he kept the over-stern DI tone of voice throughout the radiomessage, trying his best to keep a straight face.

He then did what any sane grunt in his situation would've done: He leaned back in his seat, closed his eyes, and fell asleep.

(DI= Drill Instructor= A person who seems to hate you very much in bootcamp. But the harder they are, the more they like you- I can explain this logic, but not here.)

Nick was worn out from the ordeal of escaping from the downed spaceship, his ad-hoc helmet hadn't protected him fully from the planets atmosphere but he'd made it to the APC and that was all that mattered.

"All marines! Strap yourselves in now. It's gonna be a bumpy ride!"
"Easy Eights! Listen up!" Morrison barked in his radio. "When we get back to the ship- drinks are on me! That is all! Out!"
Nodding his head towards L Cpl Morrison, Nick acknowledged his fellow marine's offer.

Quickly making sure that L Cpl Eagle was secure Nick slumped into an empty seat and strapped himself in. They had lost two marines on this mission, Pyro and Gagarin, and that was going to weigh heavily on him but Nick knew he had to put it to one side until they were back aboard the Costaguna..

James briefly came to and felt the sudden pressure of weightlessness as the Drop Ship accelerated away from the impending blasts. Through drug and pained clouded eyes James scanned the location and realized he was not dead, at least not at the moment.
"Easy Eights! Listen up!" Morrison barked in his radio. "When we get back to the 'Costa'- drinks are on me! That is all! Out!"
He managed a weak thumbs up before slipping back into the peaceful darkness.

Ronald sat still, still sobbing slightly and puts his gloved hands on his head, shaking. He ignored the others words and felt sick, hoping he would never see a monster again...

Bob walked almost aimlessly to the APC, his eyes wide with shock, after everything was done, now was when it all came flooding in on him. A tear left his eye, he stopped for a moment before wiping it away with the back of his hand. He had never imagined the kind of massacre they had just witnessed, and he presumed that he had only seen a small chunk of it. God only knows what the rest had seen. He sat down in the APC blindly strapping himself in, not saying a word. It couldn't have happened, it must have been a dream. Those "things" he said outloud without realising it, couldn't have been real. he thought. He shook his head in an attempt to remove the images from his mind, he looked up and around at the others, he took a deep breath, and tried to calm himself down without alerting the others to his diposition.

Bojan saw what he could do for Honeysett's finger now that he had the free time. After doing what he could, he sat back down and pulled out his book and relaxed as best as he could.

Suddenly the ship rocked violently, it twisted half way around its own axis before regaining control. An equipment locker opened and spilled its guts over the marines, packages and gear rained out with a clamour. Moments later the Dropship continued upwards as if nothing had happened.

Looking startled, Jacob pushed some junk off his lap onto the floor, Then bent down and cleared some stuff of Jim

"Didn't expect that...forgot the Andromeda was gonna explode..." Laughing sheepishly he leaned back, at least now nothing else could go wrong...he hoped.

After being hit in the face by Bojan's book, he reached down and picked it up and tossed it back to him.
"ok that can't be good" Con said "are we sure this hunk-o-junk will get us back the Costa?"

James moaned in his drug induced sleep as the gear from the locker slammed into his body. A few odds and ends bumped the queens tail causing him discomfort. "No ma, I don't wanna get up just yet. Let me sleep some more," he mumbled.

Dar held on tight to the crash bar, and waited for the ship to right itself... fortunately, it did. He wasn't sure whether the pilot was human or software, but either way today he/she/it was a marine, for damn sure...
"ok that can't be good" Con said "are we sure this hunk-o-junk will get us back the Costa?"
"If we ain't dead... we must still be alive. Yeah, if we were gonna buy it from that blast, we would have just there. We're still flying... I think we might just get back..."

"I do believe Elvis has left the building", Dar joked, the adrenaline finally washing free from him.

As the ship stablized, Dar popped the crash bar, and got up to see if those attending the wounded could us a hand...
