Startled at the other company woman's anger towards her Jones sat thinking before she responded. "I am sorry but that is classified information. You will have to request clearance from Weyland-Yutani. Now if you don't mind I believe this interview is over." She stood up and walked out.

Planet: Gliese 876b
Location: Ekylprillion, Lunar Satellite
Date: October 15th, 2080
Mission Time: 1330

Things had been quiet for far longer than the marines had expected. They had effectively unloaded the Snakefighter, Quinn had completed repairs on the APC, and the questioning of the Weyland-Yutani Operative had yield minimal information. Everyone had retired to the mess hall except for those on guard duty and Giosso, who was sitting in front of his computer monitor with a book in hand. The system had been linked into an alarm system that would sound off at the first sign of trouble.

As Mark reached for his drink, the alarm sounded loud and clear throughout the compound. Looking at the monitor he saw a massive movement heading their way.

Insides sinking, Oksana watched Jones go. Once the Weyland-Yutani woman was out of earshot, Oksana turned to Dirk, her voice soft with regret.

"I am sorry, Dirk. I botched it. Chert voz'mi,," she swore and pushed off the console she'd been leaning against. She didn't have far to go before she fetched up against the console opposite and she stood there, staring unseeing at the displays and lights, throwing her hopes to a fare-thee-well. She pressed her fingers hard to the bridge of her nose to head off a scream of frustration ... or tears. So close.

Getting a grip, she turned around and drew breath to ask what Dirk planned to do next but the alarms beat her to it. Oksana put her hand on her gun, checking to see it was still on her hip, before nodding at Dirk.

Mark lowered the reader and glanced at the monitors, expecting to see some kind of system error warning or other innumerable technical issues. His heart jumped into his throat as he saw the cause of the alarm was not technical, but very, very real. Tossing the book onto the storage crate, he grabbed at the radio headset and threw it over his head. He flipped on an open channel, broadcasting to the entire platoon. “Contacts, contacts, contacts!” he called out into the microphone as his hands moved to the keyboard, flying over the keys to take active control over the system. “Massive movement at 10 o’clock, sectors 10-1 through 10-6. Sirs, We have incoming!”

Mark took a moment to prime the auto-turrets and move them to active scanning before turning his attention back to the sensors, trying to clean up the image for more information.

Leaving the mess area, hoping that the new recruits obeyed his order to get geared and at the wall. He left them with less information then he wanted, but he would hopefully get over to them well in time to let them know not to get touched by the blood of anything that was coming at them.

Morse was one of the fastest people in the platoon, and was actively sprinting as fast as he could to the central space that he kept his equipment in. He had no idea what was beyond or what the contact was. But he’d had enough experience on the planet, and with their likely enemy, to know that there was no time to take chances. Every second counted, but they were fortunately fairly prepared.

After the quick run in the short space, Morse made it to his M56 Smartgun Case. He quickly snapped it open, and reached down to grab the gun. His harness, which was situated right next to the case, was quickly put on. He then hefted up the M56 and connected the weapon to the harness, making it instantly easier to carry.

The various trinkets and decorations on his Smartgun shook as he moved. The dragon necklace dangling off the barrel, and the Confederate Flag he had on the ammunition box blew with the wind slightly.

Morse looked down at his latest of gifts from the supply drop. Something he’d requested for a year which finally came. The question was whether or not it would be useful. And Morse came to the conclusion in a second it was better to have it and not need it then to need it and not have it.

So he quickly knelt down beside another weapon case, and opened it to see his new M5 Rocket Launcher. He had already pre loaded a round into it when it first was placed there. He slung it over his shoulder, and was able to field the weight.

He then made his way towards 10 O Clock on the walls position. ”New fucks! Up there ready’n loaded! Now!” Morse ordered to the new people he saw.

”Giosso!” Morse then called into his com. ”What the fucks out there!?” Morse said, still wanting to know as he made his way back to the short wall around the firebase.

Dropping the fork and knife, the young Private quickly grabbed the boonie hat he’d carried in one hand into the mess hall and donned it. The announcement blared through the firebase had been as clear as day, for the platoon to take up arms and their stations while the Corporal he’d managed to catch sight of that had worn the flak vest raced out of the mess-hall. Knowing his abilities with the M41 Pulse Rifle had been fairly up to stuff, his primary skill had been with the M56 Smartgun and following the older Corporal raced after him towards the designated armory.

Hurrying into the designated armory nearly on the heels of the Corporal, Jon quickly found the recharge station and his issued Smartgun with its combat rig. Without having to truly think about it with the training drilled into his very fiber, the combat harness had been donned with the straps in place to the articulated arm with its seventeen kilogram heavy automatic weapon attached. The targeting reticule for the Smartgun formed on the headset interface, and in short order he’d run through the check-cycles warming the weapon to chambering a round on the belt fed weapon. Gripping the weapon’s handles loosely in order to prevent it from being torn from his grip, Private Louis turned to look over at the Corporal with a small smile. New information scrolled along the headset interface, ranging from the available vectors to the ammunition type and even the inevitable splash damage. Information saturation hadn’t been a problem for him, as when he’d first been introduced to the M56 Smartgun Rig and Harness he’d been able to digest the incoming information without the nasty side-effects the system had a tendency of inducing.

“Locked and loaded!” Private Jonathan Louis shouted in response to the Corporal’s order to suit up while still in the armory.

Racing out of the armory while keeping the massive weapon steady, the young Private made his way to his designated station at the wall and kept his hands on the triggers with his eyes open. Calming his nerves, he’d slowed his breath and kept a portion of his body shielded by the wall. The barrel of the M56 Smartgun had an open field of fire, at least as near as possible and he wondered much the same as to what had triggered the outer sensors.

As the marines topped the wall they beheld a massive number of Huldra and other indigenous lifeforms racing across the plain in their general direction. An occasional black form could be seen harassing the flanks.

“Oh…shit,” Jon mouthed while seeing the stampede of the local fauna and the black shapes darting around the flanks. Reaching around with his right hand to the pulse rifle slung over his shoulder, he’d flick the safety off on the rifle firm in the knowledge the rifle held a fresh magazine with a round chambered. His right hand resumed its grip on the rear-handle of the heavy weapon as he slowly inched a little more behind the wall leaving far less of his body exposed. What are those things? he wondered.

With his fingers on the triggers and the weapon loosely gripped with its barrel downrange, the young Private could only wait for the order to fire or to shield himself behind the wall while the dropship burned the area with napalm. How long has the Corps known about these things? Or if they haven’t, then who has? Someone give the order; any order! Sweat induced from the high humidity brought on by the moon’s jungles worked its way beneath the M2 Flak Vest down his back, and he even felt some of it drip across his brow while he waited.

Alex grinned and replied "Bout time ya put me to work." He stood and was already loading his Spas-17shotgun evenly with bb's, buckshot and slugs set up to shoot slugs first. "I'm better in the bush but I'll go where every you want me." Alex said as he dashed out the door for his duty station where ever that was.

Image

Alex liked his shotgun, the weight of it and its heft cold steel and high carbon spun polymer with a collapsible butt on it. Nothing fancy but it was one nasty piece of work when used right. His breathing was easy as he looked out into the open field. He knew the best range for the Spas-17 and drew a mental line in the ground for the range. Another breath and he started to smile.

Climbing up to a port in the wall of the firebase Alex hurried and unfolded the but of his shotgun and shouldered it his eyes zeroing in on the nearest hostile. Over the radio he mentioned "Remind me to requisition explosive rounds when this is all over."

Seeing the onslaught of wild life crashing towards the wall like a tidal wave he noticed the black dots harassing their prey and said "well that's clever" Alex mentioned to him self and took a few shot at the nearest black head.

Roll shotgun I think?

Sal had his rifle safety on and slung over his shoulder at all times, like Morse had said. When the alarm had sounded, he was at the tail end of the group coming up to the wall. He saw another private open fire with a shotgun. Noone had called an order to attack but noone seemed to be reprimanding him.

Still, As Sal got up, he saw a stampeding herd of local wild life coming at them. That couldn't be good. In the absence of an order to 'hold fire', Sal opted to act. Something was pissing off the locals, could be what Morse was pissed about.

"Well." He flipped down the safety and leveled his rifle. "Wonder if they taste good grilled or seared?" He crouched for better stability and flipped his rifle to burst fire. He aimed low, at the knees of the leading center creatures. Short controlled bursts, straight down the middle.

“Sir, Looks like practically every living thing on the island! There are a couple of the buggers in there too; it looks like they’re herding everything right at us!”

<Tag Morse>

Mark quickly glanced over the large mass of detected motion, past the cameras and back to his defense turret uplinks. “Lieutenant, sir, if I let the turrets go, we’ll be out of bullets before they’re out of bodies. We need to divert them.” Mark fixed the turrets to hold fire, and shifted over to continue refining the sensor data.

Quinn had been down in his bunk napping when the alarm snarled through the firebase. Years of conditioning and experience shocked the Lieutenant awake, his sidearm in hand without knowing where he had gotten it from. Growling at himself, the partially unkempt man shoved the handgun into the gunbelt that hung from a tack on the wall of his room. He removed the belt and clipped it around his waist.

He emerged from his quarters, striding forward as he pulled on his M3 chestplate. Unlike most of the Marines, he wore a cap on his head instead of a helmet. His breath mask dangled from his belt, ready to be pulled on in an instant.

"Get to your positions Marines, we got incoming! MOVE MOVE MOVE!" he bellowed like the former sergeant he had once been. He strode to the APC, sliding open the door and stepping inside. He settled into his command chair and fired up the vehicle's systems from their standby mode. Screens winked on in time, displaying the views from the cameras mounted on every single Marine. Giosso had also tied in the gun cameras to the system. That was good initiative.

He saw the stampede coming at them and his thoughts fired as he struggled to find a solution.
"Divert..." Quinn muttered, thinking furiously. "Giosso, have your turrets target the front ranks of the Huldra. Bonus points if you get the legs to trip up the ranks behind them, buy us time. Dirk, Morse, Duncan, target the right flank bugs. Take them out."

Eyeball always had his pulse rifle with him, every where not only was it highly recommended while on active combat deployment but Morse had made it very very clear that it was HIGHLY recommended by smacking the back of his head every time he had put it down.

Eyeball bolted out of the mess hall like his ass was on fire, and up to his allotted fire zone.
the approaching mass was indeed mostly indigenous creatures with the odd dark xenomorph amongst them whipping them up into a stampeding frenzy.

" there is no way we will stop these creatures head on! we need to divert them to one side so they miss the compound! Flamers?" he asked looking toward Morse?
"Most things are pretty afraid of fire right? might not take as much to make them swerve, plus if the snipers take out the xeno's on one side we can kinda encourage the horde to head around!" Eyeball was not at all sure it would work but if they did nothing this mass of innocent creatures where firstly going to get shredded by auto turret fire then slam into the wall deference.

Samantha had been kind of off in 'dream-land' though she was awake; just lost in thoughts, mostly fond memories of her home colony of New Kingston when the alarm snapped her back to reality.

Grabbing her M41 she quickly raced up to the roof; flicking off her safety and chambering a round as she went. Upon getting a good visual her eyes opened wide and shock and she unconsciously let out a few curse words and a quick prayer.

Getting a grip; she looked closer at the mass of creatures and noticed the black forms of Xenomorphs here and there and raising her weapon up to her shoulder she spoke into her Platoon-wide comm; "Everybody else seeing the Xeno's herding everything? I'm going to try taking them out first and seeing what that does to the herd...."

While Sam wasn't a qualified sniper; she was one of the best shots in the Platoon and as she spoke; she picked one of the creatures and took a deep breath; kept her aim on it; leading it a bit and exhaled and squeezed the trigger; sending a 6 round burst down-range and hopefully into a Xenomorph....

Dirk watched the WY woman leave the room with little surprise. Company people don't talk, even if it saves their own lives. Profit over all else. As a Marine he didn't understand the corporate mentality. He would give his life to protect any member of the Corps while the company fucks would let everyone they know die for a share of the profit.

Turning to Oksana he gave her a weak smile as she spoke. She had done better than most interrogators would have. The fact that the woman clammed up didn't matter. They had gotten a little at least.

"Don't sweat it. Those company assholes are so tight with information if you shove a lump of coal up their ass you'll have a diamond in an hour." He joked

Just then the alarms sounded. They had come. Jumping to his feet he grabbing his helmet and M41A. putting the helmet on, he slammed a round into the chamber of his weapon. Returning Oksana's nod he gave her a wry grin.

"Don't go getting yourself killed. I don't like making new friends." He said as he strode out of the office.

Not waiting for the others Dirk opened fire at the first Xeno he could see.
