In the Fall of nineteen eighty-seven, the services of a group of mercenaries led by Major “Dutch” Schafer, a former Special Forces Commando were requested in Guatemala. Their orders were to be inserted into the jungles of Val Verdi, on a joint operation with the CIA’s Special Activities Division. Their mission involved the insertion of the team into the jungles of Val Verdi in an attempt to locate and extradite the survivors of a downed helicopter containing a top UN diplomat and his staff. After rendezvousing at the determined crash site of the ambassador’s craft and the skinned bodies of an elite Green Beret unit nearby, the team determined there was more to their mission than a simple rescue mission. Following a brief exchange at the Guerilla’s camp, the team began hiking their way out of the jungles to their designated extradition point. Over the next twelve hours, members of the team are ambushed by an unknown assailant until only Major Schafer and a captured Guerilla remain.
Despite efforts by Major Schafer, the jungles of Val Verdi were atomized for several kilometers by an explosive device Major Schafer had witnessed the extraterrestrial responsible for the deaths of his team using. The sample found on the Guatemalan guerilla Anna Gonzales’ pant leg was taken by the government think tank Yutani Corporation
During a series of heat waves in the summer of nineteen ninety-seven, Detective Mike Harrigan encountered a similar extraterrestrial species in Los Angeles. This extraterrestrial species was noted to be similar to the one encountered by Major Schafer’s team in the jungles of South America ten years earlier, and it was speculated the creature had been attracted to the city due to fighting between the drug-cartels. Following an intense battle spanning a week, Detective Mike Harrigan was able to corner and defeat the creature. It should be noted the resulting battle with the creature resulted in the deaths of two local police officers, a Special Investigation team with their commanding officer, and the top echelons of the two dominant drug cartels present in the city.
A plethora of valuable data was collected on the creature’s species from the remains of a partially destroyed computer and the severed forearm of the aforementioned creature. These items were later retrieved by members of the Other World Life Form Government organization to eventually find their way into the possession of the Yutani Corporation Lab.
During the winter of two-thousand-four, a Weyland Corporation satellite detected an ancient temple of unknown origins beneath the ice of Bouvet Island located off the coast of Antarctica. A team comprised of veteran drillers, hikers, and survivalists was gathered by the former chairman of Weyland Industries Charles Bishop in an attempt to determine the temple’s origins before other nations discovered it. Following a short hike across the ice and a descent into the temple’s grounds, it was determined the temple honored the same extraterrestrial species encountered in nineteen eighty-seven and ten years later in nineteen ninety-seven. The only known survivor from this encounter was survivalist guide Alexa Woods. No known samples were retrieved from this encounter.
It should be noted that a second encounter with the extraterrestrial creature and an as of yet unknown species occurred a few days later in the town of Gunnison, Colorado. The encounter resulted in the complete destruction of Gunnison and its inhabitants in the form of a tactical nuclear strike with the only survivors having been found in a downed helicopter outside the town‘s limits. The only proof left of the encounter was a powerful plasma weapon retrieved and later welcomed into the possession of the Yutani Corporation.
Despite efforts made and the samples retrieved, humanity had yet to recover any information pertaining to the species. In addition to the Hunter’s DNA remaining a mystery, the recovered technology surpassed even the most advanced weaponry and electrical systems produced by human science but in the course of two centuries, the Corporations of Weyland and Yutani lead the world in technology and medical advances while retaining the largest of these advances for themselves.
Following several encounters involving the serpent-like Xenomorphs to the Hunters known as Yautja and the enigmatic species of Space Jockeys, the Weyland-Yutani Medical Division had advanced enough to splice human and Yautja DNA setting humanity on an uncertain if not interesting path.
17 April, 2168: On the human colony Eledor 12, a breakthrough was discovered. In the maternity ward of the colony’s hospital, a baby male was born weighing a record twenty-five pounds and measuring thirty-two inches long. A model from the Bishop line aptly named Justin Bishop Weyland had supervised in the experiment since its conception and had stood behind a technician on the momentous occasion. Following a series of medical tests, the infant was shown to be abnormally healthy and had produced a full head of raven black hair.
“Did the mother survive?” he asked “No, sir. The mother’s vitals flat-lined almost immediately after childbirth,” a technician replied. “That’s a shame,” Bishop said with a nod. “I will monitor the specimen’s progress remotely. I’m holding you responsible for this specimen’s growth, physical and mental development. You are to encourage any aggressive behaviors exhibited and keep detailed notes,” The technician nodded in agreement before looking up at Bishop. “Sir, are we not going to accelerate its growth?” The Bishop android or Synthetic shook his head. “No, I’m patient and if there are any genetic memories it’ll be easier for them to surface without growth steroids,” he said before heading out of the maternity ward.
“I believe I’ll name him Alexander Scott,” the technician had thought the name appropriate. “Alexander for the environmentalist that aided in the discovery of the Hunter’s temple on Earth, and Scott for the surname,” The technician had planned to take detailed notes over the following years, but the content of those notes would be a sign of very interesting times. The notes detailing the child’s growth, behavior and the kinds of interests in school would be expected, but to what degree…would be best left to Alexander.
Oct 17, 2168: Specimen Log: Technician Scott: “I am astounded by how quickly this child…this hybrid is growing. Within three months following his birth, Alexander’s front teeth have come in and additionally four small mandibles or tusks. It must be noted, through observation that two of these tusks are located along the upper jaw while the remaining two have taken root on his lower jaw. According to the information provided from the encounters in nineteen eighty-seven, nineteen ninety-nine and in two-thousand-four, I can only surmise these tusks originate from the “father”. While Alexander currently possesses the physical characteristics in the height of a child a year and a half his age, it should be noted the specimen’s growth continues to proceed at an otherwise uncharted pace. The specimen has achieved the capability of bipedal locomotion, and can walk without any assistance. If nothing else this is proof the child is fully independent.
Technician Scott’s Specimen Log: April 17, 2173: “The last five years have passed eventfully, and have been full of surprises. Alexander’s growth has continued to proceed at an alarming rate taking into account his current age. He has begun wearing clothes that would normally fit a seven year old, and even for his size his strength surpasses even children twice his age group. The specimen has displayed a ravenous appetite for high protein foods such as beef, pork, and other animals. To that end, the child care stipend Weyland-Yutani is enough to pay for the clothes, food and more. I hope the teacher has been prepared with Alex starting kindergarten later this year.
Technician Scott’s Specimen Log: April 17, 2178: The last forty-eight hours have been eventful, but it isn’t that unexpected with what has transpired over the last five years. Yesterday, Alex managed to get drawn into another fight against three fifteen year old boys. The fifteen year olds managed to sustain the majority of the injuries, with one having sustained a broken jaw, one with a smashed nose and the third still in a coma. It isn’t surprising Alexander managed to defeat the three boys without even gaining a scratch or a bruise. Alex has shown a nearly supernatural or superhuman affinity towards math and science subjects with an aptitude towards both mechanical engineering and repair. It has been observed Alexander only has to look at an object to determine the object’s functions and how to activate it. I do wonder, if this proficiency stems from a genetic memory or simple genetic disposition. I have taken the liberty to enroll him in extracurricular activities including boxing and karate for hand-eye-coordination and a weight-lifting class provided by his school.
Technician Scott’s Specimen Log: April 17, 2183: “Alex’s height has passed one-point-five meters, leveling off at one-point-eight meters, a rather massive though not uncommon growth spurt for a fifteen year old. He will begin high school soon, but has only recently caught the eyes of several young ladies along with many female faculty members. His behavior has been observed as having become more unpredictable, but is of no risk of being considered dangerous. I have arranged it that Alexander will spend many of his days in the tropical jungles surrounding the perimeter of the colony during the cycles of particularly intense heat waves this world is known for. On a side note, despite my encouragement into Alexander’s aggression he refuses to adopt the posture of a bully. It should be noted due to this…honor code, the specimen will not instigate fights with the local schoolyard bullies. His reactions stem from being either being baited or otherwise pulled into the fight by the aforementioned schoolyard bullies.
Technician Scott’s Specimen Log: October 7th, 2183: “Despite my efforts, Alex has been expelled from the local high school following a major altercation. Two eighteen year old boys were hospitalized as a result…one of which had to be resuscitated. The specimen has become more instinctual and feral while his intellect has surpassed the doctorial level. It is my firm belief that introducing him to the apprenticeship with the Weyland-Yutani Lab will keep Alexander out of mischief. I assume Ms. Erickson and Michelle Justice will be disappointed when confronted with the fact Alexander will not be attending further classes.
………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
Stirring from a deep slumber, Alex’s eyes slowly opened only to sting from the high humidity that seemed to permeate the jungles before dawn especially on a sweltering day. The morning’s weather wasn’t that unusual for the month of November on the colony world, and in fact it was slightly cooler than what it should have been. The young man had slept in that morning for a change, since his expulsion from the school he’d attended.
The gentle noise nearby emanating from a young lady nearly his own age drew his attention had been cause enough for the young man to look at the equally attractive woman to his right. His former teacher Ms. Erickson had fallen for Alexander’s animal magnetism, a strange occurrence the young man wasn’t going to simply ignore. The light from the early morning suns danced along their nude forms, their preferred or lack of evening wear.
Stretching, Alex looked through that early morning haze over the jungle where he felt most at home when the familiar chirp of a communicator interrupted his thoughts.
“Yes?” he growled, out of annoyance.
“Alex, this will be your first day in working with me in the lab. You shouldn’t be late,” Dr. Scott’s voice chimed. The good Doctor’s constant chastising had begun to grate on young Alex’s nerves, but like a surrogate father he couldn’t ignore the good Doctor’s attempts at educating him about the worlds beyond this hot, humid world.
“I’ll be there,” Alexander replied. Reaching over, he nudged one of his girlfriends away. “Do you know the way back to the colony?”
“Yes,…just follow the trail of smoke from the factories,” she groaned, attempting to garner a few more moments of sleep.
“Good. I need to leave,” Alex replied before heading off towards the Company labs. It had been noted he could run quicker, with more traction and agility than the four-wheel drive jeeps the Company kept for transport within the colony’s limits. The realization dawned on him he didn’t even know what the labs looked like or their function outside of the good Doctor’s office.
Entering the Company labs, Alexander went through the front entrance as he had many times over the course of his life. The medical division had served as the colony’s hospital in addition to functioning as a research facility for the indigenous life forms. Looking around, the young man found the front of the office was empty and took it upon himself to satiate his curiosity. It wasn’t until he stepped into the research portion of the lab when a voice rang out, Dr. Scott’s voice.
“Glad you could make it on time,” Dr. Scott said, greeting him. The Doctor guided the Alexander through the labs, insuring the young hybrid didn’t get into mischief or break something very expensive. “Welcome to the Weyland-Yutani Apprenticeship Program, Alex. I understand everything is new to you, but if you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask,”
“You knew I wasn’t going to hesitate,” Alex responded. “What does this lab research? What will I be doing under this Apprenticeship Program?” He asked, following the good Doctor through the twisting corridors while listening to his “father’s” answers.
“This facility is responsible for researching and developing new pharmaceuticals ranging from antibiotics to vaccines and even cures for the various afflictions of the human body. We’ve found vast amounts of flora native to this planet, and other vast amounts of…components in such high concentrations. You, on the other hand, will be working alongside the security forces employed by this facility in various duties from escorting scientists through the jungles. When you’re not doing that, you will assist the technicians including myself here in the labs. We have a weapon’s research division, which you will be allowed to test out new equipment on the condition you ask beforehand. There’s a sufficient marine garrison stationed on this world, but I doubt you’ll see them in these halls unless there’s need for them,”
Alex merely nodded, taking in the Doctor’s explanation as the pair entered the lab.
The two had worked their way through the facility broken only by Dr. Scott’s explanations before passing a mineralogy lab. The two mineralogists within, identifiable by the patches on their lab coats, stood gathered around a table holding a drilled core from the planet’s depths at least a few meters long meaning it had recently been drilled.
“Look at that! The ionizing radiation in this layer dates back to a little over fifteen thousand years ago. The radiation has permeated every sample we’ve taken from this planet’s crust. Whatever happened to cause this type of radiation, devastated the entire planet and the moment of impact must have been strong enough to change the planet’s axis enough for the ice age to have ended. The result would have been the intense heat wave,” one of the scientists said. While the two attempted to analyze the strata in the sample, they contemplated what minerals were worth mining for and where the mines would be located.
Passing another room, a short young lady with reddish brown hair rushed into the corridor in a hurry. Colliding with Alexander, the haphazard stack of books, papers and her backside struck the floor.
“Oh! Excuse me,” she said, scrambling to her hands and knees before picking up the fallen materials.
“Don’t worry about it. You didn’t hurt anything,” Alex replied, with a powerful grin and staring into the woman’s eyes. He helped her to feet, bending over to pick up some stray papers and watched as the woman stepped back a little with a smile of her own.
“I have to get these papers to the geological research staff,” she said before passing the two of them.
“You know, for a moment I thought she was human,” Alex smirked.
“How did you know?” Dr. Scott asked.
“The hint of lubricating oil Synthetics use overpowered the perfume she wore, and her hands were cold to the touch,” Alexander explained.
“Astounding! Simply astounding. Your olfactory and tactile senses are far more acute than I would have ever expected. I’m impressed. I knew your eye-sight exceeded the standard twenty-twenty, but I had no idea the rest of your senses were that acute,” Dr. Scott replied.
“So, who was she? I found her to be a challenge,” Alex asked, with a nod. Chuckling, the good Doctor led Alexander further into the lab he supervised and began with the individual introductions of his staff.
“This is Dr. Braley, a doctor in Xenobiology,” Dr. Scott gestured to a scrawny blond man with glasses before introducing the rest of his colleagues. “The fellow over there is Dr. Garcia, is a Xeno-Micro-Biologist,” after gesturing to a shorter man with spiked dark hair. “Dr. Hunt over there is Xeno-botanist while last, but not least, Dr. Justice is a Xeno-micro-botanist. I believe you‘ve already met her daughter,”
Alex smirked at the brunette in her late thirties whom shared the similar features as her daughter.
“You‘ve met our administrative aid Monica, our resident Synthetic,” Dr. Scott explained, concluding the introductions.
