Database problems...

Post by Nick » Tue Jul 17, 2012 10:46 am

I have had a nightmarish morning as the database started freaking out. This meant that no new users could register and that we were on the very edge of a completely database failure. I managed to repair the tables luckily, but it is becoming evident that this database has been around for a while (2005...) ;D

I have also updated the spambot protection some more to keep them away, there are hundreds of attempts each hour to login and destroy the forums.

Morse also ended up in some kind of account trouble, unknown if this had to do anything with the database or not. But he should be alright now.

If you notice any problems, please notify me in this thread.

Ho man, thank God. Quinn must have come through. I swear, the next item on my list of attempts was going to be making a dummy character sheet and putting up that said "NICK MY ACCOUNT GOT DEACTIVATED, PLEASE READ" - and hope that someone read it and got word to you.

What happened was I was trying to change my 'email' address here to an email I don't use anymore, because I couldn't figure out how to deactivate the constant notifications on the one I do use. I check this place all the time, so I really don't need it.

Unfortunately Yahoo has deactivated that email address because I don't really use it anymore except for activation keys and things. So this site deactivated my account until I could put in the 'new' activation key which was sent to my email address which longer exists.

I tried to make a new account, but there was some kind of problem where it kept saying there was a crash or an error of some kind (I don't know if this applies to all new people, or just me)

- So ya, I really stepped on a land mine and was in a bit of a panic there.
