So what exactly do the GMs put the characters through?

I know Aliens are the primary foe in this game(or at least I'm assuming they are) but I was curious as to what the previous campaigns have been like.
As one of the others have said in my other post, this seems to be somewhat based off of the old Leading Edge Games RPG, and looking through the bookas I type this I see other creatures as well as notations on personnel/vehicular combat. Have previous campaigns also featured such combat, or is it strictly aliens?
I've played a modified version of the old LEG multiple times, and going through my old "logbook" for my character I remember fighting Combat Synthetics, Corporate soldiers(mostly Wayland Yutani, those damn bastards LOL) and alien-based cyborgs(taken from AVP1 for PC).
I'd just like an idea of what I may be getting myself into when I submit a character - thanks in advance for the info guys n gals!

This is strictly Out Of Character knowledge, but the Eights have fought against a wide variety of enemies.
List
Xenomorphs
Mercenaries (some very well equipped)
Rogue Scientists
Corporate Forces
Rebel Insurgents
I really liked the rebel insurgents mission, that was a fun game.
We don't do too many armor battles, as this universe doesn't really allow for it. It would be better done as GM description, but really not something that we would get involved in, as we're infantry.

Erm...forgive me for forgetting to make the request as an OOC answer Quinn. It's been awhile since I've been involved with a message board-based RPG.
Thank you for the info. As I said, I just wanted a general idea of what to expect once I make my character and jump into the game.

A better idea is to look at what you want to do within the unit. Commtech specialist, Medic, Smartgunner, Special Weapons operator, Rifleman, and tailor your character to that task.
A fighting style that works against one enemy won't necessarily work against another, and tailoring your character to do that is first, power gaming, second, not a good idea within the grand scheme of things. And since you're coming in as a newbie, your character probably hasn't even heard of a xenomorph due to all combats being classified information (corporates don't like to air their dirty laundry).

Well, my situation is, shall we say, iffy for the moment - I'm going to be leaving home within a few weeks for several months and I may or may not be able to access a computer during that time due to training for my job. However, I just wanted an idea if this RP is something I'll definetly get involved with once I have consistant access to a computer...or at least have enough access to be able to fully participate on the GM's schedule.

Usually the new turns go up at least once a week on a slow month, but usually twice a week is the average time I've noticed. We just started a new mission, so I'm not sure how Max would be able to work you into the platoon, but I'm sure he can answer your questions more easily than I can, and with more authority than one of the "Old Guard" such as myself.

I certainly don't know about "more authority"; but I'll answer as best I can!
Sorry I missed your threads earlier Shotgunner; what exactly do you want to know? Below I've spouted off on various subjects brought up in your threads and hopefully they'll answer some of your questions!
OOC; as Quinn and others have stated; this is a game set just after the events of "Aliens"....i.e. the 2nd Movie of the series; and the unit of marines involved have no knowledge of the events of that movie. (There was one player who ran an android in a previous mission who had somehow processed information from the movie; but personally, I thought this stretched credulity to ridiculous levels and unless Nick or Dugan tell me otherwise; those scences are NOT considered cannon)
So far, in the missions these characters have been involved with; I believe everyone except Shepard, Valentine and Lonebear has directly engaged the xeno-morphs; and all are aware of thier nature and basic 'way of life' if you will. (I.e., the insect-esque social structure; the egg to facehugger to alien manner of reproduction; and the natural conclusion that there must be some kind of egg-layer; though no one has yet seen a Queen...not even you Dunn!

)
Foes are likely to include Mercs and Rebels; Xenomorphs and other alien creatures....some from the Leading Edge RPG books, some original, possibly in the future.
I have NO working knowledge of the Aliens vs. Predator games; I haven't played any of them; so PLEASE do not consider anything in those games as 'cannon' or send me messages referencing them as I won't know what you're talking about. (I had a one-time visitor to this site send me numerous PMs making references to all kinds of things from this game...it got to be very annoying!)
Anyway, if you'd like to make a character; check out the rules; build and upload a character and PM with any questions you may have. I DO have a way to work in a new character (you'd be with Kurosaki's team of infiltrators...marines in civilian gear and with light and non-marine issue weapons and equipment)....but I'd need you to be able to post at least once a week or so.
Currently, I'm posting once a week (with possible more frequent posts if people get all split up and numerous small things need to be resolved; though I'm hoping to avoid this occurance!

)....and I'd say a Mission will probably take about 3 months to finish.
Any other questions? Please feel free to PM me anytime; or keep posting on these boards....I'm a relative new-comer; many have been here long before me; and the true "masters" of this site are Nick and Dugan.
-Max

Thanks for the info guys - I'm definetly intrested in joining an active game, but as I said I can't guarentee, at least at the present time, that I'd be able to make the posting requirements until I return, which sucks for me.
I'll definetly be joining an active game once my schedule allows me access to a computer on a regular basis, and I dont want to tie up anyhting with my current scheduling issues Max. However, I will Pm you a few things I'd like to bounce off of you, if you don't mind me being a minor pain in the butt LOL.
Thanks again guys!

Everye single campaign is stored in the earlier campaign session.
I also have saved the mission from the predecessor to this game, the e-mail based game USM which were set in the 4th Alien movie universe - I can post them if there is interest as well - A pretty good read actually - It is 193 pages though...so be warned.
