Still here, and got some tips for you.

A general map of what we're going to be assaulting usually would help, that way we can read the tactical situation much more accurately.

Also, Commanders and Advisory Staff never go on point, regardless of how good they are, simply because they're too valuable in experience to be in the most dangerous position in breaching. It's a good way for them to die because of a lucky shot or a booby trap. That's the role of the assault squad.

Glad to see you're still with us! And bobater too! :)

Dirk, Patch?

As for your suggestions:

1. I would if I could...unfortunately, I'm a bit of a computer moron and haven't figured out how to get good maps translated on-line...my apologies for this. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to either PM me or put them in your post as OOC text and I'll do my best to answer them.

2. I know that's how things work for modern western militaries; but I'm doing this for two reasons: First: it's a cinematic thing to do; and I feel that the Aliens universe needs to be somewhat more cinematic than everyday life...and Second: I personally find it dangerously easy to fall into the pattern of just having everything happen the way I would envision them happening in my own time/enviroment....in other words; I can study what modern U.S. (or at least, modern Western) military units would do in situations and always apply that logic....but I think this can be a bit of trap since it's NOT modern U.S. military situations and that way of thinking leads to very 'predictable' situations. Also, I know that Cameron directed Aliens with a lot of the Vietnam era experience in mind (Hudson's comment: "And I was getting short....6 more weeks and out...); and I'm trying to keep things a little bit different and unexpected.

I apologize in advance if I offend anyone's sensibilities or ideas/ experience of the 'correct' way to do things....I am not a soldier/marine and do not claim to be...but I will do my best to keep things somewhat grounded in reality; while at the same time, openly saying that somethings happen to keep a 'cinematic' feel to the game. I hope everyone can enjoy this style; and if anyone has any serious issues; please let me know with a PM.

Thanks!

-Max

I can understand with wanting to keep a cinematic feel to it, but Gorman didn't even get out of his APC, because that's the CP for the unit. But w/e, this Captain is apparently a "balls to the wall" Gyrene.

I'm not asking for an ultra-realistic game, I'd go play Millennium's End to do that. But the officer in charge who's made it this far in the Corps would have the sense to keep his head down, but again, w/e. You're the GM.

One of the things I was trying to do was to create a sort-of 'anti-Gorman' and 'anti-Burke' with Ramirez and Khan...i.e., an Officer with some guts and a Corporate rep who's more straight-up than slimy.

I also don't think that any officer who's made it this far would have to keep thier head down...after all, Chesty Puller certainly never kept his head down and he went from E1 to Commandant and was in the thick of it numerous times! :)

I do understand that by the movie's logic, the CO should be in the APC directing things...I ran with the idea of having Ramirez be kind of like Picard; not liking the logic and having a veteran NCO (in this case, Pitt) direct things from the CP and running things personally, because that's the kind of officer he is. This is just my own personal choice; but again; I don't want there to be a canned 'this is how all ops are run' kind of feel as I don't want things to be too predictable/scripted...if that makes sense.

Being an anti-Gorman is fine, Gorman just wasn't decisive, and hesitated when it was crucial. And having Khan as a stand-up rep is also fine, just make her straight up and not trying to screw the Marines over for money. But also the Captain of Sledge's company, K Company, got sniped on Peleliu because of his fondness for doing the recon himself. He got respect for it, but he died because of it.

Just FYI.
