Okay so, over the last few days I've done a little homework about the site, and about the game, even so far as reading past campaigns to see how things usually work, the old roster, and some other forms of media, and still I have some questions.

Earlier. I read a post by Maxvale in the invictus campaigne roster thread about Evan's character sheet, and then I looked for it, and actually came across other questions, mostly regarding an absence of some of the characters' sheets or just info about them outside of what was found in the old roster. And it got me thinking, is there another place people are posting their information, am I just not seeing all of them, or has there been some kind've miscommunication along the way?

Also, I was noticing a trend about the Pulse Rifle, and some of the comments I've heard maybe as well as some stuff that I read in the player guide, though.. vague I guess. Now, granted that all the smartgunners are gone, or I just can't find the character sheets for them, I've noticed that noone, outside of Patch and Morse, has any other weapon besides the M41A listed. I wondered if it was because the M41A was just standard issue, and it's the correct way to go about the character sheet because the quartermaster loans you the other weapons, or something.. Or is it just a popular firearm?

Is it wrong to list other firearms in the character sheet? Like.. Now I may be taking this out of context because of use or the mission or something, but from the same post I saw Max saying that Evan listing the M39 in his character sheet was 'wrong' but I saw that on the armory there Max had listed 4 submachine guns along with some other weaponry which really made me want to ask this question, as I'm new here and really don't know everything.

I don't mean to step on toes, and this sort've question might've better be directed in a pm question then, putting someone on the spot I guess.. But Dougan actually encouraged me to ask questions on the boards so that everyone can answer. I don't mean to be offensive in anyway, I'm just confused you know?

And if this answer is actually in the players guide I appologize because well, I swear I've read that thing a few times, especially the standard issue, stats, and skills sections, and I'll feel like a certified dumus if this is there in black and white.

More of a joke question: Is it really true that noone in the colonial marines are street legal to drive a car? XD I noticed it said it required only a novice to be street elligible, and as far as I can tell noone has it. A fad that's died out over the years, I guess?

The reason everyone has now got a Pulse Rifle is because on the previous mission we were required to wear armored diving suits which could only have attachments to fit Pulse Rifles. So I altered the character sheets to reflect this. Also with the old roster each squad was divided into a number of positions one being a Smartgunner and another was a Flame Unit trooper, I don't think thats required for the new mission/ latest roster.

I think the reason Max was saying Evan's character sheet was wrong is because he has to request to have any weapon which isn't standard issue before writing it on his character sheet.

With regards the driving issue, I think you only need to have a rating in the Vehicle Drive Opeartion skill for APC, Hovercraft and Ground Exploration Vehicle to be able to drive them as they are quite complex. I'd rule that being able to drive standard vehicles would be a basic skill that most Marines have, like for instance the ability to read & write or being able to swim.

Thanks for the reply Dugan, and yeah I was thinking that, about the APC driving and such, but there's a ground vehicle driving skill, and then down at the bottom there's another skill in the regular or unrelated skills just called.. "Driving" It's under Con/acting, and it mentions something about street legal only requires novice, haha.

I dunno, it's weird but it's no real skin off my back. I don't think I've ever seen anyone drive a 'car' in the aliens universe anyways, so I really don't know how society has changed or hasn't in regards to culture and technology on earth.

About Max and Evan though, so you're saying to use anything aside from the Pulse Rifle, you hafta ask permission or something from like, say Nick, or... yooou? or Who'ever is dming the op, like Max for instance?

Since this is a military RP, to request permission for a new weapon, you can do so in game. Although I've been trying for ages to get shotgun shells for my launcher...

As far as the M-41A is concerned, it's the standard issue assault rifle for the U.S.C.M. 10mm caseless explosive-tipped, light armor-piercing, 99 round capacity with each rifle, as well as an underslung, pump action grenade launcher with a 3 +1 shell capacity. Standard issue, with each squad getting one special weapon / heavy weapon. VP-70 autopistol (real gun btw) is the standard sidearm, with the occasional M4A3 autoloader to be seen.

The smartgun is the SAW (Squad Automatic Weapon). 150 round capacity in a side-mounted drum magazine, is capable of tracking targets or full manual control.

The flamethrower is the standard special weapon of the U.S.C.M. It's a flamer, nothing special about it.

Driving really isn't used in this game, because the skill has rarely, if ever, come up. It would mostly be used for the APC, but the unit's android does that. So it's just something we kinda ignore.

I get that, and the weapons and skills make sense and all, I was just being funny and saying how weird it was that a platoon full of marines couldn't drive a street legal car, or atleast that's what I got out of it about the regular driving skill, and not the ground vehicle operations one that's related to the military support skills. It was just a playful question really, and I half didn't expect an answer, atleast not in the sense that I wanted an answer for the weapons.

So how it goes then is... You put a pulse-rifle down and then request to use different ones? Or do you just request to use different ones before you make the character sheet. The latter seems more procedure, while the first seems a little redundant no? I really don't mean to drone on about this, I'm just trying to clarify.

Yeah, as others have said; many 'civilian' skills won't be listed on the sheet as they probably won't come up very often...but I would assume most characters would know how to drive....or swim....etc.

One thing that I noticed when looking thru the character sheets is that most players have chosen to make Charisma a dump stat....I AM planning on having fun with this fact down the line!

As for weapons...here's the deal; what do you see as your primary 'role' in the unit? If you want to be the guy firing the big-ass Smartgun or the Missile Launcher or the Flame Thrower...then these are covered by a Skill other than the generic 'gun-combat'. If you put slots into these skills; you will almost certainly be given these weapons as that will be your role in the squad/section/platoon. If you just want a Submachinegun or Shotgun or Scoped Rifle; this will depend on the mission type and the available pool of weapons. The Pulse Rifle and Pistol are the 'default' weapons; but this doesn't mean that you will always have both.

For this particular mission, I don't have any M56 smartguns or M240 Flame Throwers available; but that won't be the case for future missions.
