How do squad roles get allocated with the new rules? Does the Squad Leader just choose them depending on the skills of his Marines, or do the players decide what they want to be?

It'd be useful if each squad contained one Smartgunner and a specialist Marine such as a Comtech or Medic. What are other peoples thoughts?

Each marines role is selected by the Sergeant. There are no pre-defined classes.

No absolutely not. A few have transferred their characters right over more or less.
