Equipment
Re: Equipment
Not that I know of. The game is long out of print - but it still has one of the more impressive combat system of any RPG I have ever played. It is simply awesome and very realistic.

Re: Equipment
Have you seen the combat system? This has been adapted by the system used at West Point Military Academy to teach tactics. It's real in the sense that you can die very quickly.
Also, this IS a scifi RP site. Keep that in mind when it comes to total realism.

Re: Equipment
Marines in Vietnam used M14's instead of M16's as they thought the latter didn't have sufficent stopping power. But I've never heard of anyone wanting to use an M1 Carbine for this reason. Except SOG who used them as they were 'grey' weapons and were not meant to be traced back to having being issued by US forces.
Anyhow I guess us arguing is a mute point as Nick has ruled we're only allowed to use USCM issue weapons, check the Quarter Masters office for the list of them.

Re: Equipment
If You want to discuss the M1 Carbine thats fine - As You happen to talk to someone who has about three shelves of World War II history behind his back and some 16 years of study in it.
If You want to discuss realism with someone with hands on experience of pistol to rifle caliber ballistics, penetration and tissue damage be my guest. I have specifically studied the effects of FMJ compared to JHP bullets and the difference between bonded and non-bonded jackets i ballistic gel.
I have also 18 years of roleplaying with me, and numerous systems. I think I have enough experience to deem a system more realistic than others. From a pure roleplaying aspect naturally.
However...
If You want to discuss the inclusion of the M1 Carbine and how it would fare in the A.A.G universe You are wasting the bandwidth on this forum as it will not happen. I particularly don't like nagging, perhaps it is a flaw in my character. But I have already said no.
Twice.
This is the third time.

Re: Equipment
Dugan has noticed me on the Phoenix Command game which uses the same combat system as A.A.G. There are several new tables for weapons there and some other more advanced combat rules - This opens up the possibility for me to use some more "exotic" weapons.
I will still not, however, allow personal weapons for the time being...

Re: Equipment
By the way this was said about the combat system Aliens Adventure Game uses
"Using your current small arms combat system, place the muzzle of a large calibre pistol between your character's eyes. Squeeze the trigger. Continue squeezing the trigger until the character falls unconscious. Then, have a friend put a band-aid over that nasty .45 calibre dent in his skull and try not to get him shot too often in the week or two it takes to heal."
"Now, using Phoenix Command, place the same pistol in the same place. Squeeze the trigger. You now have a choice: you can either roll up a new character or rush the body to a very sophisticated medical facility and discover the joys of role-playing a vegetable."
You were INCREDIBLY lucky the last mission not being hit. I intentionally made both the Rebels and the Corporates pretty lousy shots...perhaps a little to lousy. But on the other hand if I had made them good shots You would have one alive player rather than one dead...

Re: Equipment
Can I start carrying around a samurai sword?

I'm totally kidding but that would be AWESOME! Imagine taking on an alien with a samurai sword? Sure you'd get ripped into little pieces but right up until it managed to get to you, you'd look totally kick ass!
Which brings to mind a question I had. Can you suffocate an alien? Like choke it out or something? Cause I was thinking about the best way to take out an alien hand to hand and I was thinking you'd have to look at trying to destroy its joints or denying it oxygen or whatever its body uses to keep its body working.
I'm pretty sure that aliens have the tactile strength of steel, meaning that they can literally rip apart steel with their hands, so you would have to get in close, while avoiding its tail and claws and then somehow snap a limb. I'm not sure it can be done.
I should probably take this question to another part of the forum probably...

Re: Equipment
Well, you can suffocate an Alien, but seeing as one can hitch a ride onto a landing craft via the landing gear and take a ride through space into a ship, fat chance.
Explosive decompression. And you're far more likely to aim in the mouth and fire your pulse rifle.
Ya know what we could use Quartermaster? Get us some damn Bolters! Yes, .75 caliber mass reactive explosive rounds on full auto with a twenty round magazine. That'll get shit started!
