Tactical Advice

US Colonial Marines uses the Aliens Adventure Game rules from Leading Edge games. The combat system is unlike most pen and paper role playing as it do not have hit points in the traditional meaning. Instead it is a very realistic system using tables.

Combat in the Aliens Adventure game is notoriously deadly. You can, and will, die from a single gunshot wound routinely. To sum things up. Don't get shot, ever. To avoid this it is recommended to always have Your character in cover. Only move while someone else is supressing enemies and avoid frontal assaults at all costs.

I cannot emphasize this enough - Because I don't fudge die and will kill Your character if dice and tables says so. I have run a few mock combats with the system and it is nasty. Really nasty. Way more so than the previous systems we have used in Aliens. If You get a solid hit from a Pulse Rifle You either die or are disabled for the rest of the fight.

This do however spice up the game and You have to be both smart and lucky to survive. Luckily it is very easy to create a new character with the new system...  :P

Game on.

I used to have the rules book until I lent it out and never got it back.  >:(

Anyhow I was going to run a game and ended up bumping up the modifiers for the different types of armour as certain areas it covers were left with no modifier, you might want to consider this so we last a bit longer.  ;D

But undoubtedly when I played it as a player I remember it being very deadly and even though us and our enemies were only using SMG's most of us died or were incapacitated very quickly.

How come you always pick systems in which getting the characters killed are easy?

OH NOES! THE DOOMDICE ARE COMING TO GET YOU!

On a serious note is cover dependent on environment?  For example if you are stuck in the middle of a wide street with no visible cover can you hug the ground and gain some kind of cover bonus or are you stuck praying that the guy shooting at you is blind and his weapon is unloaded?

Personally, I trust Nick to make sure that as long as we don't do anything stupid in a realistic sense, we won't die unless its the luck of the dice. As in, considering we don't know the rules, i'd expect a bit of fudging as rules go if we did drop prone and there was nothing else that could be done. Though, doomdice...

Dropping to the ground increases the difficulty level for the shooter - it does not count as cover unless there is something between You and the shooter.

Which means that it is better to be laying down than standing up. It is, however, much better not be be there at all but behind cover.

Also one hit routinely knocks Your character out and not seldom kills him or her within a few combat rounds unless attended to...
