2179 AD, 6th October
Location: Sol system, Earth, United Americas, New York
Mission timer: 00:45:33

Section one finished their sweep of the northern part of the tunnel without finding anything. They did however notice that the water was rising slightly, probably from the colossal rain that spewed down on New York city at the moment.

Most of the Marines had not been on earth for over a year, others even longer than that. Just a few meters over their head people were living their lives in the sprawling mega city. Androids were rushing back and forth doing mundane tasks, people were going to work or committing crime to survive. If they only knew what incredible danger lurked below. If they only knew.

Sergeant Pitt moved furhter into the pipe. There was very little room now as the water deepend. He sunk deeper into the murky and rapidly flowing water. Afte a few meters just his armored shoulder pads rose over the water, he tried to keep the weapon out of the water the best he could but it was hard and uncomfortable - And it blocked his forward view. Dirks shoulder light slowly sunk under the water and the tunnel changed in appearance as the light level sunk. The strong light threw a short yellow shaft into the water infront of him, the white light now greenish yellow. Suddenly he could hear water splashing in front of him. He continued a few meters and then he saw water falling from above in a miniature waterfall. Into the waterfall a ladder rose up towards streetlevel.

"Aw shit!" Pitt said to himself.

Dugan acted immidiately to the new information "We are coming" and once the Marines had finished the sweep of  the tunnels as good as it could be done in a hurry the whole platoon hurried towards Pitts position.

While waiting Pitt cleared the rest of the pipe which seemed to be a dead end, except for the ladder rising up into a manhole at street level. Pitt started climbing the ladder upwards into the water. The ladder was made or round metal tubing and were quite thin and uncomfortable to grab. Pitt reached streetlevel. The metal grating that covered the manhole was thrown to the side.

Below him he heard of the rest of the platoon started ascending the ladder.

Sergeant Pitt looked around and saw lights from cars driving past just a few meters out on the steet. To his right he saw a neon glowing commercial screen: "Welcome to new york: The city of growth and prosperity...for all"

Kurosaki was the third man up the ladder. It was obvious that the fugitive managed to get away. Kurosaki hadn't been back to the world since he had shipped out on Crysalis. He breathed in the air, which was a lot better than the sewer air.
Slinging his rifle, Kurosaki tipped his helmet back on his head, feeling dispare run through his body and mind. There's no stopping it now. We should have burned them like I had suggested, Kurosaki thought. He crouched, bringing the tension out of his legs. A couple people passed him on the street, staring at both his armor and his face, which screamed Asian.
I guess I'm the true Alien out here, Kurosaki thought as he looked around for the fugitive.

The rain washed over Dirk as he came out of the manhole onto the street. It was good to be out of the sewers, but atleast down there the thing was contained. Looking at the neon glowing commercial screen Dirk almost laughed "Welcome to new york: The city of growth and prosperity...for all" These things would move over this city in a matter of days if they didn't find this guy and kill or capture him.

"Damn, I should have just given permition to open fire" He cursed under his breath." I won't make the same mistake twice"

"Morse, get third up here fast. We don't have long to find this fucker before he is gone for good" He shouted

"Stormhurst, get that tracker going now. I want to know if he is in the area." Dirk said, knowing that they would see movment everywhere. Almost hopeless, but he had to try.

Looking around with the IR Dirk saerch for anything moving that may be the gunman they were tracking.

With the use of one hand, Jean had a difficult time up the ladder and was the last one up. The spokes of the ladder were slippery, her boots were untied and loose, and she had to let go of the ladder that she climbed with one hand and quickly grab onto the next spoke before she fell backward into the sewers from where she came from. Once level with the street she rolled out onto the pavement, feeling the ruggid surface against her skin. She looked up to see the sign that welcomed her to the city, and the rain that glanced the light from that sign well enough to look like bright white stars falling toward her eyes.

The android curled up and balanced herself on her feet. There were a few people looking in her general location because she was wearing nothing but panties and a shirt. Jean pulled her weapon and they promptly went on their merry way. The girl then stripped completely nude and forced a door to a nearby pawn shop. She came out wearing slightly oversized digicam that wasn't exactly USCMC spec, but at least she wasn't naked.

"They can send the bill to the Corps under this circumstance," Jean said in Patch's general direction while she walked away from the building. The whole process only took Jean about thirty seconds. Her reasoning centers were sound. It wouldn't do the Marine corps any good if she got picked up off the street for looking like a curbside hooker with a gun, so this was a good use of taxpayer money to keep her free enough to protect a human life and not entice the wrong people.

Furthermore, she was happy to be dry for a while.

patch had popped out of the sewers with the rest of te command section and had heard the various coments from the squads as they ascended.

"Lt this is command, we are on street level at these GPS coordinates, the fugatives used a ladder to gain street access. no apparent gaurds on this exit, i thought NYPD said they had covered all exits? someone fucked up on this one, OH MAN WILL YOU LOOK AT THAT PERFECT HEART SHAPED ARSE ON HER......umm sorry command section could you repeat that??........ negative, must have been interferance patch said shakelly, he had not realised he had said anything aloud as jean stripped off and broke into the pawn shop.

"Lt we will need a form 744b filing at this location as well, requestioned some supplies from "diamond dave's"

patch glaned down at his scanner there was movement everywhere it would probably not be much help, and with the rain coming down this hard there were not even any wet foot prints to follow.

this could turn into one big cluster fuck real quick patch said to no one in particular.

Morse clammered up the ladder as fast as he could. With the heavy weapon strapped to his back it made climbing a bit of an issue, but none the less managable. As he was finishing his climb he heard Dirk yell for him.
Dirk Pitt wrote: "Morse, get third up here fast. We don't have long to find this fucker before he is gone for good" He shouted
Morse finished climbing up the ladder and figured out in a hurry what he had just passed through on his way up. It was obvious that what ever they were chasing had ripped its way through the grating and up into the city. Morse quickly fell into 'perimitorial positioning' slapping down the Bi-pod on the M41A-E2 and crouching. He kept himself just beside the opening.

"Easy Three's, move your useless asses up here. Go go go!" Morse said helping each member up the ladder.

< Tag third squad

Morse stood up and looked around. He was absolutely disgusted by what he was seeing. The filthy Yorker-ville. He hated it, he'd been here once before in his life and never wanted to return. Now he was peering around and seeing exactly what he presumed the tattoo on his right arm represented. 'Born in the thorns to die in the sky'. It was a ploy on an old tattoo many of the people in his family had which said 'Born in the South to die in the North.' Being a marine, he thought it more appropriate to change it, but maybe the traditional might have been more so.

He stood up, his light panning around, revealing a barrage of raindrops which pelted them. He walked over to Dirk. "What the hells the tracker gonna do, Even on a wide read the damn thing'll be readin every damn rat and rain drop. What do ya figure we'll do?"

< Tag Dirk.

Morse recognized they were pretty badly screwed. He would probably wind up saying some sort of 'I told you so' to those above him, but he would wait until a more appropriate time. Morse's views as an optomistic cynic from laying into them just yet. He remained vigilant waiting for a further directive.

Stormhurst came up following his Sgt and Cpl.

He brought up the tracker as his Sgt told him to but with all the people on the thoroughfare, the rain and other objects on the move, the tracker was scrambled, just like Morse said. The tracker was useless with this many readings. He looked around.

"The guy probably wouldn't want to move in the open so he'd go for darkened alleys or such. Wouldn't you think, Sgt. He'd go for the closest cover to get out of sight I'd think.

LCpl Stormhurst unshouldered his rifle, checked it for obstructions from the climb and looked for the nearest shrouded cover and/or alley entryway.

The tracker might work in the alley with the less interference, he thought, maybe.

Two Section was the last section to ascend the ladder up to street level.  Once again Obi was rearguard,as the marines made their way up the ladder well.

Well at least it isn't as crowded down here now.    Obi thought as he waited patiently for the platoon to clear the sewer.  Three quick taps echoed down the ladder shaft, indicating that the marine in front of Obi had made it to the top safely and that the ladder was clear.  Applying the safety and quickly slinging his rifle, Obi sprang up the ladder as swifty as his 6'3 frame could.  Emerging from the sewer Obi moved away from the opening and took a knee as he unslung his rifle.  Tilting his face up towards the sky, Obi let the rain water wash away the grime from the sewer.  Adjusting his helmet he moved in a crouch and fell in with the remainder of his section.  Kneeling he faced down the street eyes scanning street level, the surrounding builds waiting for a threat to appear.  Local New Yorkers hurried past the heavily armed marines.  Obi watched them closely as they moved past and away from the platoon, weapon not quite pointing at them, but not quite pointing away if they turned out to be hostile.

Once they rounded a building corner and were out of sight, Obi kept his attention on the immediate surroundings.    How the hell are we going to find the targets out in the open like this.    Obi thought with frustration as he realised the enormity of City scape that was presented in front of the marines.    This sucks.

"If they came through this area recently, and especially in the rain, I recommend boosting the gain on the infrared." Jean said while sitting on a nearby vehicle. "The material these streets are made of actually holds heat. The rainwater will bleed it off but it should provide you with a decent trail to anyone that may have stepped out of this manhole in the last seven minutes but you have to act fast. At the very least, it will provide us with a basic dirrection to search and narrow our field of observation as opposed to searching the entire manhattan grid."

As the rest of the squads formed up around the hole in the ground through which they had come up to the surface. He continued to watch he area with his eyes. His shoulder light panned through revealing every single raindrop that fell before it. There was nothing to be seen from what he could tell.
Jean wrote: "If they came through this area recently, and especially in the rain, I recommend boosting the gain on the infrared." Jean said while sitting on a nearby vehicle. Morse heard the voice of the android, the damn robot, making a suggestion which he doubted that no one else had considered. Morse had always held a major dislike for androids being used in the corps. He hated A.I's in general, unless they were strapped into a cruiser, or something. If it could walk and talk and looked like a human, it had better bleed red or else Morse hated it. Of course he disliked people in general, always finding a flaw in them one way or another, but robots just made it easier.

"Boosting the gain!?" Morse spouted back to the robot. "God dangit, just cus you aint got nothin more in your head but machinary, aint meanin that we got the same." Morse continued grabbing the flask from out of his pocket. He took a quick drink out of it. The taste of the 'homebrew' made him feel a bit better about standing in New York. "We boost the gain, what happens if a flare is activated? Or a bright light comes up, hell even this damn flashlight done strapped to my shoulder shines at em? IT'LL FRY YOUR RETINA COMPLETELY! Your gonna have a group a marines half blind, cus it's gonna done be readin it like starin at the sun. Besides, we aint been here that long, we'll be pickin up the footsteps a everyone done been through here in the last 2 hours." Morse finished

Morse prided himself on his ability to shoot down idea's. But this time he took a greater happiness in being able to shoot down the the plan thought up by a computer with legs. He kept moved his M41A-E2 up to his should and waited for whatever came next.

As Simovic exited the manhole he realised what a shower of shit the mission had descended into.
eyeball wrote:

"Patch you need to cut that language out, brass will not stand for it and it'll be a sure fire way of a quick demotion. But I do agree with you about NYPD making a serious fuck up. This makes our job all the more difficult, we'd have more chance finding a needle in a haysta....".

Simovic didn't finish his sentence suddenly an idea came into his head, they were searching for scientists who had been working in the colonies, I.C.C laws dictated that they needed to be implanted with a Personnel Data Transmitter to be granted insurance to work out there. With that in mind he clicked his comms to the platoon channel.

"I want everyone with motion trackers to change the filters to search for PDT's, hopefully our fugitive has been implanted with one and it should make this search a whole lot easier"

Morse's sudden bark at her didn't affect her one way or another. Her programming didn't allow it and she answered his question calmly.

"For any normal infrared receiver, you can boost the gain on the sensor itself and not the output to the optical eyepeace lens. This allows for the objective lens to send more information to the CCD chip without hurting a human beings retina." Jean explained. She stepped off the car and and reached out for a random Marine's helmet piece. "Think of it as increasing the quality of the image on your TV screen's gamma input without adjusting the brightness. It gives you an odd clairity without the bleached white appearance of having the pixels at full output." She adjusted the eyepiece and tested it first just to be sure, because Morse had a valid point and it was better to be safe and burn out her own personal CCD eye lens, than a real human beings retina. "As for picking up footsteps of everyone who's been through this area in the last two hours, like I said before, the rain gives us the perfect chance to track it down because it's bleeding fast. The heat doesn't last long, so the only foosteps we're going to find are the fastly fading footsteps of the person that made it out of the drain, and our own. Because of this fast bleedoff, we have little time to track it."
Once she was sure the output of the eyepiece was safe, she handed it back to the Marine that let her borrow it.

"There you go. If you find anything, I doubt we have any more than four or five minutes to track down the infrared signature of what has already passed,"
Jean nodded to herself and then to Morse. "I hope you feel better soon. I'm sure all the humans are slightly tense right now."

Morse was awaiting to hear a directive from someone of a rank higher then his own to at least get something done quickly. But rather then hear what he had hoped, he heard the robot voice it's thoughts, assuming that's what you called them coming from a machine. With M41A-E2 still on his shoulder he turned to face the walking-talking-robot, which proceeded to explain why it believed using the infra red on a higher degree would work. It seemed to fail in it's calculation on what the 'Red-Eyes' were capable of. They were filtered specifically to try to block things like that so they could get a clear image of humans, and vehicles. What it was suggesting would essentially make a parked car appear as a massive cloud consuming an entire ally way.

But it was the last bit that caught Morse heavy.
"I hope you feel better soon. I'm sure all the humans are slightly tense right now."
Morse suddenly snapped with an evident quarrel with it's statement.

"And what are you!? Aint not a bit in ya know what ground your treadin on. We're lookin for some person what done has a grasshopper from hell sittin in'is God dang chest. Morse spouted back quickly. "What do you know about it? Aint nothin other'n what was writ in reports, reports most of us here wrote. I done shot at em, and done stuck hand inside a the chest of a lifeless person done had one a them rip right out of em! We lost a squad'n a half worth a men last time we seen these things! And you wanna say your done hopin we're feelin better?! "

Morse was rather livid at this point, his own personal feelings towards 'androids' coming to light at that moment combined with his own experience with what they were chasing after. He hated the idea of some machine crunching numbers and presuming it know everything, when it hadn't seen or felt what they had.

"This damn 'ocular infra-red reader'" Morse said pointing to the one attatched to his helmet. "Aint gonna pick up residue a somethin it's programmed to filter out! Morse said, then turning his back on the robot.

< Tag Jean

Morse needed someone to give a directive. The android was what he believed to be getting in the way of the mission. They didn't ask for the lawyer and the science rep. on the trip last time and they got killed. Yet another pointless loss put in by protocol. This android was no different.

Now standing just in front of Dirk he took a drink from his flask. "Dirk, we gotta do somethin, quick." He said extremely calm. "All be it pan out by three's, two's, one doesn't matter. We gotta get this quick... so what do wanna do?" Morse said desperately needing someone to give them a directive.

Jean nodded even though he turned his back to her. The small framed android patted Morse on the back and calmly talked to him, "It's alright... And yes, normally, the optics are set to filter out that kind of thing. Either way, we spent too much time discussing it. It's probably not going to work now, anyway."

Jean smiled at the man. She wished that she had some technique in her programming that would allow her to calm him down, but sympathizing with someone that didn't exactly explain his problems and feelings wasn't going to help. His speech patterns were hard to understand but she pretended that she didn't have any trouble comprehending.

"Perhaps, lowering the introduction of alcohol into your bloodstream might help you think more clearly and relax?" Jean hoped maybe a comforting chat might help him out. Because Morse was right, this situation had gotten bad. Jean felt that concurring with Morse about his fears would only heighten the overall anxiety of the entire squad. That wouldn't be productive.

Morse's eyes suddenly went wide. Was the robot was implying that him drinking the family recipe was giving him anger issues? His biological thinking abilities may not run as clean or as flawless as it's but he wasn't about to let that one go. He whipped right around without a moments hesitation.

"Perhaps you activatin shut down protocol in yourself might do the same! Damn junk-bot done gonna tell me I got a drinkin problem now? Try this one. Fuck yourself. Morse through the last part out clearly.

He started to disregard that there were others around him. A thought ran through his mind, and that was getting in some target practice in with his fancy new weapon, ripping this android into 40 pieces of useless. He was quick to restrain that, but he wasn't about to have a computer tell him something that it thought was fact, when it was 'here-say'.
