Simovic hearing Stormhursts description of the target had sent Wey back to check it out. However his main concern was still the large IR signature up ahead. First Squad now close to its last known position and Command Squad was just a few metres behind. Simovic halted, sweat glistening off his face caused by the stuffy confines of the tunnel. He pressed his comms to 3rd Squad.

"Ok Pitt quickly get a sample and then hook up with the Support Squad in the main tunnel and continue your sweep"

Simovic then signalled to Patch.

"Patch are you still picking up a reading for the runner?"

[quote] OBI's POST:  Not getting any reaction from toeing it with his boot, Obi poked it with his rifle barrel.  It seemed to move slowly and slide off the barrel.   Frigging IR, can’t see a thing with this thing.    Deciding quickly, he flicked of his IR lens, closed one eye to maintain so form of night vision and quickly turned his shoulder lamp on and off.   What the fuck is that! Oh no way, you cannot be serious!  I wasted a bunch of worms.  Oh well better safe than sorry.    Letting out a slow breath he flicked his IR lens back down and on as the built up tension drained out of him.  A small smile crossed his face seeing the humour in the situation, but killed it quickly as he called up the rest of the platoon to give them a SITREP.

“All call signs this is Golf Romeo 2, stand down, stand down.   I have identified the unknown creatures, it appears to be a bunch of worms, clumped together.â€

Sam felt a little of the tension go out of her as she heard Jean's voice come over the comm tellling everyone that a bunch of worms had just been blown to smithereens.

Smiling at her new friend's Encyclopedia-entry description, Hall shook her head and started to carry out the earlier order of setting up another relay after ensuring that LCPL Sheppard had her covered. She quickly safed her M41 and slung it over her shoulder while taking out the relay from her carry-all and picking a dry-looking spot on the wall to install it. As soon as she was done she took her Pulse Rifle back into the 'ready arms' position and disengaged the safety so she was ready to rock 'n roll.

"confirmed sarge, target still up ahead, it hesitated for a second or two with the gun fire then moved off"

Moving past the worms and eyeing them with distaste...Jacob sucked hard on his unlit cigarette, it just wasnt the same really - but he wasn't going to be the fool to light up here. He was a sarge and a Platoon guide - that meant making sure all the grunts did their jobs right...sadly they were - which made him a very bored person right at the moment.

Still, he remained alert - keeping an eye on the water ahead, and his fellow marines - he was also constantly alert for cover points should there be contact. The last thing you want in a tunnel is to be standing in the open - it usually means one thing, you get cut to pieces before you can blink - he's seen it happen to people before. Not pleasant.

He couldn't help but hear the words of one of their latest recruits...Jean - easy on the eyes, but a bit too full of nuts and bolts for his tastes, Jacob took in what she said...breathing into his mike - he spoke for the first time since entering the tunnel...

"All marines - keep your eyes on the ceiling and the walls just as much as the ground. If Jean's right - and there's no reason for a brain like that to get things wrong - then we need to be careful. I'm sure we all know what can skulk on the ceilings now, and they aint pretty creatures..."

Pretending to smoke his cigarette with even more energy - Jacob's eyes flitted around the tunnel...

OBI's POST
[quote]Closing up with 2 Section again, Obi fell into his position.  The water was just above the marines knees, and was seemed to have a film of slime and debris covering its surface that was broken apart as the Section waded through it.  The temperature was now very humid, with water seeming to drip from every surface while the marines were in a constant sweat.

You fucking idiot O’Brien, Jesus, it couldn’t have been worms, there was definitely something moving there. Fuck.    Obi thought darkly to himself.  Quickly looking forward making sure the man in front of him was still there and returned his searching gaze to the tunnel behind.

[quote]

"I’m sorry to confirm that this couldn’t have been your original target." The calmest person in the tunnels leaned down and nudged it with the tip of her handgun.
"It’s Genus is called Tubifex of the family Tubificdae of the order of the Oligocheta under the Animala species. In other words, the Tubifex worm. They consume, mainly, bacteria, and if I heard the radio chatter correctly, the shooter claimed to be shooting at a moving target.â€
