M1T16B (4th squad - APC crew)

Location: CSC Sector, Crysalis, Main Colony, Outside main colony

23.30 hours local time

Three Marines sat in the APC while one was outside doing perimeter watch rotating watch. The Marines were relaxed, cracking jokes and making fun of each other. Monks was on perimeter watch and Morse had just cracked a particularly fun insult about colonists when they heard gunfire outside, very close.

Morse had just fixed one of his shoulder pads when he bent down to pickup his pulse rifle. That saved his life. A dozen glowing tracer rounds flickered where his head had been moments before with a spine chilling sonic cracks. Morse dove down hard into the sand. More rounds impacted all around him, making the black sand boil and sputter. Some rounds smacked into the APC with small bright flashes and sharp bangs, the telltale of high explosive tipped rounds. Whoever was firing was firing with strictly regulated ammunition that was only allowed after special permission. That meant one of two things. Marines or Corporates. Another burst barely missed Morse, and his eyes were filled with black sand from a near miss.

Dirk was in the middle of telling yet another joke about being in the rear with the gear when the rounds started to hit the APC with loud bangs bangs. He spat out his cigaret and jumped up.

"Erik, get turret into the fight and give those fuckers something to think about." Dirk said as he bolted to the door


Opening the door he kept low as the rounds hit and exploded against the armored skin of the APC. He started fireing, useing the APC for cover, at the unseen attackers.

"Morse, get to cover. Move Marine." Dirk shouted between the thunder of his M-41A.


"Command, this is 4th squad. We have been attacked by an unknown force and are returning fire. Be advised, they are useing HE rounds. I don't believe that they're rebels. Looks like we have a new player. 4th out." Dirk shouted over the comm.


(Roll gun combat, perception)

[Morse]

Morse didn't know what had just happened, other then somene was shooting at him, and now he was scared out of his mind. As the first shots came about he had dove for the sand. It hurt his arms a little bit but he didn't care in the least.

HOLY FUCK!!!!! Morse yelled as he dove down and began doing what he could to crawl away from the rounds. As more rounds landed around him his eyes got a nice dose of sand in them.

Morse could now barely see, but he could squint ever so sligtly. He heard Dirk yell "GET COVER", so he did what he could. He crawled as fast as he could with his M41A in his hand to the other side of the APC. It took him about 3 seconds but he got there. And tried cleaning his eyes with his cantine a bit. He could see, but not very well.

I'm in cover, but what the hell was that. Erik, you shread those bastards Morse said

now pulling his M-41A up into firing position, and poking just around the corner fired in bursts back from where he was being shot from.

Upon hearing from his Squad leader to open her up Erik swung the turret to the appropriate direction. Erik worked the weapons control console designating muzzle flash coordinates into the fire control system for appropriate suppressive fire from the main turret. He considered using the mortar system for a surprise strike but didn't want to move the APC and uncover any of his team mates who might be using it's bulk as protection especially his new friend, Morse. So he used the main turret to put down a heavy volume of suppressive fire in the direction of the winks of incoming fire. He also linked in the forward gatling gun turret so if any firing came from within it's lethal firing arc, they'd get hosed.
How's everyone!! Anyone hit?? He radioed over the squad freq. And what the hell?!  

Any special targets you want vapped, Boss man??

Hey Morse where you at man?? Can you make it to the main door?? I can pop a smoke to screen you so you can make the door if you want to try??

[Morse]

Morse remained on the oposite side of the APC. He was sitting down and was breathing hard. He hadn't quite been shot, but there were a few a those rounds that came very close. He didn't quite want to peak around the corner, because even though the rounds hadn't hit him quite yet, he wasn't wanting to test to see if they could.

I'm on the other side a the APC, and there aint a chance in hell i'm gonna try for the door, there firing the kinda rounds that tear your legs off. What are we doin Dirk. Morse yelled over the radio.

Erik searched for any targets in the open as he kept the turret engaging the weapon flashes that gave away target locations. He flipped through different spectrums to help with target locks and to easier find hidden targets. He was worried for his squad mates that were outside the protection of the APC.
"Well if you're close to the driver's door, try getting in through there, Morse" Erik said on the squad channel.

"You got any targets designated for me, Cpl Dirk" He repeated to his Squad leader. He didn't want anything to happen to his new Squad leader either.

[Dirk Pitt]

"Erik, Just keep up the rate of fire in the direction of the attack. Sound off if you see anything on your targeting computer." Dirk said between balsts of his M-41A

"Morse, go thermal and keep your head down." Dirk said

[Raider65]

"Aye, Aye Cpl" replied Erik as he thought who are these guys, I never picked up on their approach. They must have some pretty hi-tech gear, not just some dumb locals. He continued his rate of suppressive fire. Just enough to pin anyone thinking of rushing but not enough to over heat his weapons. Also he aimed at any returning winks of enemy fire. The heavy weapons of the main turret could pulverize any natural rock type cover in only a few shots and anyone protected by anything less than main battle tank armor hadn't a chance of stopping the fire power of the heavy weapon rounds.

Hey Cpl, I had an idea if you're game. I could fake a weapon malfunction or jam and we could see if that draws anyone out of the woodwork and into the open. And maybe it'll put someone into your's or Morse's sights. What you say?


Hey Morse, Keep your eyes peeled and one to your back. They may be behind us also, the sneaky b@st@ards.


Erik also wondered if they were being flanked or if the enemies were hi-tech enough to have anything that could take out or damage the APC.

[Morse]

Morse pulled down his "red eye" to see if he could see anything. Unfortunatly his eyes were still a little hazy from the sand. He'd be fine in a few minutes, but in the meantime he was a little screwed.

I think i can make it to the driver side door if its open. Think maybe i'll give it a shot, is it unlocked, cus i aint botherin to give that a shot if it is. Morse said.

He was still catching his breath a little bit.

When the first impressive burst from the turrets guns sounded the enemy gunfire went dead immediately. The silence was almost intrusive as seconds ticked by. Only the slight hydraulic whine from the turrets servomotors could be heard as it scanned the edge of the dune were the fire had come from.

Dirk listened to the silence unsure if he liked it less then the sound of the bullets hitting the APC.

"Morse, with me. Get your motion tracker online and lets go see if we can find the shooters." Dirk said as he slowly moved forward towards where the shots had come from.


"Erik, Stay on the turret and cover us. We might be coming back in a hurry" He said.


Keeping low and his M-41A ready Dirk moved slowly towards where the gunshots had come from.

"Roger that. They seem to have fallen back. I'm takeing Morse forward to scout. Pitt out." Dirk whispered over the comm

[Morse]

Morse heard the roar of the turrets and then there was nothing. He didn't move at all, he was completely silent, he just looked side to side waiting for something. He then heard Dirks voice. He presumed that Dirk had forgotten Morse was the squads medic, he didn't have motion tracker. He did have his medical kit, but he was more likely to kick the shooters in the groin then give them medical attention.

He straightened his helmet and stood up, with his infra red - eye still down he moved forward next to Dirk. He kept his M41A in a firing position and was ready fire at any moment.

"WilCo Cpl Pitt, will stay on the guns and give you guys some back up," replied Erik. "If you guys can get a position lock on the enemy, send the coordinates back to me and I'll let fly with some mortars for a big hello."
