The Marines carefully searched the large pool room, spotting for any traps or signs of ambush. They found nothing, except a few more merrily bobbing corpses in the center of the pool. The Marines divided into two parties, one on each side and advanced forward - Weapons at the ready.

The Marines had brought out their motion trackers, but they showed nothing. The light from the trackers displays sent out a halo of light around the Marines in the very moist air.

The Marines reached the locker rooms. One squad filed into each room, and quickly cleared them. Apart from a huge brown stain on the floor in the mens shower room they found nothing of interest.

The sound of the gunfight outside was a furious as ever, several resounding explosions even shook the very fundament of the building - The mirrors in the locker rooms rattled slightly.

While the two squads cleared the locker rooms, the other Marines filed up next to the exit sign - Waiting for their comrades to join them. When they did, they counted to three using their fingers and then burst into the stair well that were on the other side. The stairs were empty and broad concrete steps with glittering anti-slip tape rose in front of them up to what seemed to be a lobby of some kind. The sound of the gunfight was more audible here, and the Marines slowly edged up the stairs - Lights out and low profile, their blackened down faces strained with tension and eyes alert.

The lobby was empty, the Marines quickly secured the lobby which included a relax department with large comfortable sofas. A corpse laid sprawled across a shattered glass table with a huge gaping hole in his forehead. Across the street, which seemed littered with debris and paper, they saw a large container which burned furiously. Behind it in the flickering orange light they saw the green door to the Mayors house...

The moments where the Marines were clearing the building were without a doubt, the most tense moments of Ishizawa's entire life. Every time he turned a corner, he expected there to be a rebel waiting for him, rifle at the ready. But in the end, there was nobody.

Eventually the Marines made their way to the lobby, the gunfire louder than ever. Ishizawa took up a crouched position, and turned off his motion tracker. It was starting to go wild like before, so it wasn't going to be of any use to the Marines.

From his position, he peeked out of the shattered windows, while trying to remain under cover as best as possible. All he saw was smashed concrete debris, and paper flying when the wind blew. The mayor's house was visible in the background; they were close to their objective. But considering the heavy fighting in the area, Ishizawa feared the worst for what they would find inside the house....

He felt nervous all of a sudden. His heart began to beat faster. He never knew when the rebels would find them. But at least he thought, he could do his part, and find the enemy first, as he continued looking outside the shattered window for any movement.

Quinn filed in with second squad into the lobby, his pulse rifle shouldered and up ready to fire.

When the rings of "Clear!" finished in his ear, his eye was drawn to the body that had gone through the glass table with the round through his head. Setting the rifle down on the floor, he carefully looked around the body to see if it was booby trapped. Probing carefully, he searched the body for identification. He also looked at the head wound to try to determine what weapon did the damage.

The sound of distant gunfire made Octavius keep his smartgun at the ready, trained towards any possible threat areas.  No need to go looking for trouble, he thought to himself, it was bound to find them and the focus now was to retrieve the Major or whoever the heck they were supposed to be risking their neck for.

Looking around for the rest of his squad mates Private Mongo was reassured to see that Ishizawa had found himself some cover and was searching through the window for any threats that might appear.  He could see both Private Roberts and Corporal Silvanus had the same idea and had grabbed some cover.

Figuring that he'd better do the same Private Mongo looked around for any reasonable cover he could find which gave him enough room to bring the smartgun into play if somebody decided to start shooting at the platoon.

Speaking clearly but quickly, and hoping his voice didn't carry to far or that a bad guy picked up his transmission, Octavius tried to find out what the plan was now that they were in sight of the mission target.

"Sergeant Honeysett how does the LT want us to handle this?" he asked the Second Section Sergeant.



"Hey Ishizawa and Roberts you guys spot anything out there yet?  Corporal Silvanus you got any deployment orders for us?" said Mongo to his fellow squadmates over the squad frequency.

"Sergeant Honeysett how does the LT want us to handle this?" he asked the Second Section Sergeant.

"Stay tight for the moment my friend. I'll update you as and when!"

walking past the shot body, he reached out and wiped his finger in the blood on the body, before drawing a smily face on his armour.

"3rd squad, be ready to engage. remember to select your shots carefully...except for Mongo - his smartgun will do that for him. Ishizawa, when this shit goes down I want you to keep a watchful eye for any heavy weaponry and target their operators if possible I don't fancy our chances if they bring a flamethrower or rocket launcher up...or a heavy machine fun for that matter!"

He began to laugh. This was it - another look into the abyss. How many more times before he died? Sometimes he wished it was sooner so he didn't have to go through it all again, other times he just wanted to live, to enjoy the next cigarette, meal and warm bed. This time he wanted to survive...not for any obvious reason, he didn't want to look incompetent in front of his new unit on the first mission.

Yes, this time he'd play it safe...

Simovic swept though the building even though the place was without power it somehow felt hot and the sweat poured from him, the tension could be cut with a knife. Once the lobby had been secured Simovic motioned to his squads. "Kurosaki take Second squad and complete the sweep of this floor make sure no ones hiding out in any offices or rooms. 1st Squad keep an eye on the Mayor's house I want intel on any entrances you can see and also numbers and locations of rebels around it. Marion use your scope rifle to get a closer look and Heart take my binoculars, Colins get Pitt on the radio see if he's got an update on the plans to the colony, maybe there's some underground passage or sewer that we can use to get there?"



Simovic handed Cpl Heart his binoculars and then moved over to where Lt Jones and Sgt Honeysett were stood "What do you think then? A frontal assault would result in heavy casualties but we might be able to sneak in some way and if the shit hits the fan, have people here to give supporting fire".

"Collins, try to raise Pitt on the radio. Once your done, we'll set off. When we set off, Hoffman takes point, Collins will go second, I'll go third, and Quinn goes last"

"Good plan, I vote 3rd squad stays here to give a firebase while 1st and 2nd go in on the quiet. If it gets hot for us here then we can call in Dirk, if we show we're reinforcing this position then hopefully they wont suspect we've sent in a decent sized force around the back. Let us know when you're about to enter the building and we'll try and get Dirk to reinforce us then as a distraction. If you guys could leave us a clip of ammo off of each person in first and second then we won't have to worry about running dry when we come under sustained fire. Which do you think wiser? to engage before or after you slip out and away?"

Jacob particularly enjoyed defending, and this idea sat very well with him.

He began to consider, a marksman up a few floors with a vantage point, and the smartgunner as well to rain fire down from above, hopefully disguising the sniper fire as well...he and the remaining other men would provide support from the ground floor and try not to die...

Yes, he liked this idea...

Roger, getting a closer look.  Windrider made his way towards the window most close to him.  He positioned himself back from the window deep enough not to be seen, and started to scope the area outside with the rifle scope.  Slowly marking each area and looking in the spots of cover for the enemy...

patch found a good spot overlooking the mayors house but still providing himself with good cover and began to scan the area with motion tracker and his mark 1 eyeball.

"Sarge wants us to hold here for awhile; use the time to check and reload your weapons."

"Aye aye." Quinn pulled one of his mags and tossed it into to the growing pile of ammo for the squad to stay behind. Going into the house, he really wished that one of the squads carried a flamethrower. But, if wishes were starships...

He continued to look over the body of the man in the lobby. When he did so, Warrant Officer Smiles wiped the blood into a design on his body armor. Quinn looked up at his superior with a slightly disgusted look, then went back to searching the body.

[Dirk Pitt]

Dirk smoked cigaret after cigaret as he looked through the computer for any plans for the building and the city that the marines found them selves in.
