M1T5

Post by Nick » Mon Sep 15, 2008 5:43 pm

2179 AD 25th August
Location: CSC Sector, Crysalis, Camp Castaway

21.25 hours local time

The Marines had flicked down their eyepieces that enabled them to see the infra red perspective, the ground was very cold and the warm bodies of the rebels were outlined in white very clearly against it. The two AFVs awkwardly climbed over the nearest hill crest - They seemed to be of ad hoc construction by welding plates to mining bulldozers. The treads of them glowed in the IR scopes and the exhaust vents for the turbines where completely white and radiated with head. There seemed to be at least 150 rebels assaulting the compound - They where still some 800 meters out and ran towards the compound slightly crouched. The weapons they cradled in their arms ranged from rifle sized weapons to worryingly big. Suddenly two of the rebels dove down in a small gully and slowly crept up to the edge. They where setting up a machinegun to provide covering fire for the advance - moments later they started shooting. The muzzle flash flickered like a stroboscope and the white dots from its tracer ammunition flashed by furiously a split second later instantly followed by the nerve wrecking hypersonic crack. The two bulldozers crept closer, for equipment that big they where pretty fast. They were no more than 500 meters out now and two files of rebels ran behind them seeking cover.

The fight was on.

Collins carefully peeked over the edge of the boulder he was hiding behind in fairly safe cover. The M56 towered over the ridge of rubble feeding the targeting-guidance system with optical information. Collins saw the withdrawing marines circled in a green aura, identifiying them as allies, while in the far distance the approaching enemy was framed in red. They were certainly within the effective range of the weapon, but the strait field of view between the APCs and the small hill didn't bestow Collins a convenient line of fire. Besides that, he hasn't recieved a fire-permission yet. So he crouched back down and waited for the enermy to close in further. Most important was to conceal his position for now...

The heavy gunfire quickly caused Kurosaki to dive for cover. He made sure that he had no parts of his body showing over his cover. He tried again at the radio.

"Stalker nine, is this India Kilo. We need you to hurry it up over."

The fear that Octavius had been feeling fled his body when the sound of small arms fire started up.  It was like someone had flicked a switch turning off the part of him that wanted to curl up and hide in a corner away from the bad men that were coming to hurt him.  Everything seemed to be happening in slow motion and he could think in crystal clear clarity.

"Private Mongo to Corporal Silvanus.  What are your orders for third squad sir?  Shall we hold position here in the central building or move out to try and engage the enemy?" he asked over his comm unit as he intently scanned the area in front of him through his IR monocle.

(OOC: Hey Nick can I see any of the oncoming infantry?  I'm currently positioned at the main building in one of the fixed defence positions.  If I can and have a clear shot then I'm going to open up on that mofo like it was Christmas!)

Simovic had managed to reach the command building when the attack had begun, he'd ducked behind cover of the partly collapased walls. Assessing the situtation he decided to hand out orders to Section 1 "1st Squad I need you to concerntrate fire on the machine gunners, once thats been eliminated pick your targets nearest first"

"2nd Squad Collins & Quinn hold position here, assist 1st Squad with eliminating targets. Kurosaki follow me we will get one of the APC's firing on the bulldozers".

With that Simovic still keeping in cover of the rubble moved to the nearest command APC that had weaponary and moved inside to activate the weapons and fire on the nearest bulldozer. While doing this he flicked his comm channel over to the Lt "Jones I'm going to try and take out the bulldozers. It maybe worth sending a few men from Section 2, to the other armed command APC, and using its weapons on the advancing enemy".

The radio was still jammed and Kurosaki couldn't break through it. All he heard as he released the send button was an erratic static pattern.

The pops and cracks increased in intensity as another machinegun opened up on the base. Rounds flew through the air whizzing and screeching like angry mosquitos. Grenade launcher rounds where fired from the hip by the advancing rebels as well but the range was too far and they detonated harmlessly with muffled thumps some two hundred meters out.

Collins camouflaged his position by adding a few extra rocks and pebbles, but he could not do more than that really. Chances were that the rebels, at least some, also had IR equipment. The relatively accurate machinegun fired hinted at that at least.

Mongo could see the advancing rebels but the range was still too far for anything but supressive fire.

OOC: Mongo have, with his Professional skill rating in Gun Combat, a 2% hit chance at this range against a moving man sized target.

As Dugan raced over to the APCs a stray bullet whipped past inches from his face and he could feel the heat from the tracer component. A green line from the bright light lingered on his retina for a few moments from the intense light.

Collins carefully improved his enplacement, aware not to make any sudden movement that would give away his position. He heard dashing steps and recognized Sergeant Dugan and some of the other marines, who were falling back from their anterior position.
"2nd Squad Collins & Quinn hold position here, assist 1st Squad with eliminating targets. Ishizawa follow me we will get one of the APC's firing on the bulldozers".
Sean nodded quietly and turned his head back to the deceptive night ahead, seeing the flickering muzzle flash of the enemy machinegun strobe furiously. When Dugan hasted towards the APCs Sean knew what he had to do. Provide covering fire, distract the enemy fire and pin them down where they stood. Sean turned on his back and pushed himself slowly up the flat side of the debris bit. He raised the M56, raising his waist coevally till the gun slightly towered over the rubble. Collins remained in cover, letting the gun's electronics be his eyes. He toggled through the identified targets, till he had the enemy machinegun zeroed in. Trusting upon the recoil absorbing ability of the smartgun harness he fired away a short burst. A bright flickering flash ripped through the dull shadows accompanied by the screeching thunder that was characteristic for the M56. Through the flipdown display infront of his right eye he saw a string of wandering green lights blaze through the gun's shared vision. Now he has given away his position and actually hoped to draw enough enemy fire to his position so that his comrades could move safely. While his M56 smartgun levied over his cover, Collins didn't expose himself at all. A great advantage indeed. But this stance could only be used under very fitted conditions.
Before counter-fire could form Sean blazed away another sweeping burst, sliding into cover shortly after.
"Open fire! Pin those assholes to the ground!" (tag anyone)

Laying on his stomach at the hill Windrider smiled with joy at the thought of hunting some of these rebels.  The order was music to his ears.  He carefully took aim with his rifle and lined up on the closest machine gunner in the makeshift nest they have set up.  The roar of the guns the fireworks of the tracers just ignite his hunting spirit.  Taking a deep breath he lets off one round to the center of the glowing blip in his reticle...

Kurosaki sprinted with his radio back pack to the APC.

"Copy that!" Conrad shouted his confirmation to the Sergeant.

Letting only his smartgun peer around the cover he was behind, he let go a few short bursts towards the enemy machine-gunners position and for good measure at some of the guerillas that huddled their way towards his position. Conrad knew that they where still a bit far out for effective fire, but he didn't really care.

"Come one boys! You heard the man! Give those assholes on the MG a few grenades! Show them how we take care of business in the corps!" Saliva shot out of his toothless mouth as he shouted at the Marines in first squad.

Watching the oncoming enemy troops and knowing that he was slightly to far out of range to engage them effectively frustrated Private Mongo to no end.  Frag it, he thought to himself before switching his rifle to single shot.

Carefully he lined up on one of the rebels and slowly squeezed the trigger, feeling the thump of the stock against his shoulder as he fired his first shot in anger.

He knew he'd probably given away his position but wasn't particularly worried about it at the moment.

"Hey Ishizawa!  I bet you five bucks that I put down more of these rebels than you do!" he yelled into his comm unit.

Sixtus looked out to the range that the rebels were coming in from, and ducked behind some solid cover that a wall offered. When Collins fired a short burst and moved, Quinn moved along with him. When Collins set himself down, Quinn began removing the canister shells from his launcher. At this range, they'd do nothing. He silently wondered where the sniper for their company was and what he was doing as he slid several fragmentation grenades into his weapon.

"This is where I wish we had some scopes attached to our rifles." Quinn muttered, as he switched his rifle over to semi-automatic. Crawling up to a spot where he could look out, he saw the wave of white shapes advancing upon his position at the extreme range. He moved his vision to the oncoming bulldozers and the mob of white lines behind them

"Attention India Kilo APCs, two dozers coming in from the north, look like improvised armor." Quinn muttered over the short-range comlink that the rest of the platoon was issued. Hopefully the message got through. Taking careful aim at the lines of people behind the dozers, he slowed his breathing. When the second breath slowly escaped his lungs fully, he carefully squeezed the trigger to send a single bullet from his weapon screaming at the targets. Once he did, he got behind the concrete walls.

Dirk watched the advance through the scope of his sniper rifle. Immages moving, hideing, tryin to get a position that would let them kill Marines. There wasn't anything he could do about the dozers, but the heavy machinegun he could.

Takeing aim at the gunner, Dirk squeezed the trigger. The rifle barked as it sent a round downrange at the gunner.
