This sounds interesting Erika.  Is this a global organisation?  While I'm not much for hosting a party I'm definitely keen to turn up!

Do you know if they will be hosting an event in New Zealand?

The idea of a space party on the 12th of April come to the mind of a group of people in Vienna attending the Space Generation Forum during the UNISPACE III conference. At the same time, we had created the Space Generation Advisory Council , the website is http://www.spacegeneration.org/

The Yuri's Night is a global space party organised everywhere in the world. So check the website to see if one is held in your Country. If not you can organize one, it can be pretty simple.

The problem to me is that since it has a lot of success, the person managing it make the people pay to be recognised as a Yuri's Night, but at the beginning it was not in the original idea. In fact, with some friends we go out on the 12th April and have fun, but ours is an unofficial Yuri's Night.

I hope it helps.

Cheers
